#Help explaining the concept behind this algebraic method

The problem is 4(a), i got the answer k = 4. But the official worked out solution for had some intriguing method

What i did was expand, move the variable and do basic algebra. But i checked the step by step solution and it shows (2)²-k = 0... and then solves to get k=4

Theres a few things i dont understand.First of all, the eqn itself shows a graph eqn where it discontinuity occurs when x = 0.

So my questions are, why is it valid (reasoning and logic) behind '=0' and why can I ignore the denominator?

before it ignores the denominator it basically is saying the f(x) = 0/0

I understand the main concept. Factorisation works because polymonials blah2 and conjugates also blah. Why does removing denominator in this case doesnt give the wrong value whats the proof or reasoning? I didn't learn or forgot this part of algebra

yeah but theres a discontinuity at x= 1 so x/=1 by removing the denominator through crossing out the same factors you can create a function where limit for x=1 exists. like how f(x)= x/x isnt equivalent to g(x) = 1 since its true for all values of x EXCEPT 0 for f(x)

even the fact its going for = 0/0 confuses me.. its already states the function limit is 4/3 so?? doesnt even know whats going on.. whats the logic

We just wanna know what value the function approaches as you get closer and closer to that point

And again since the denominator is 0 when you plug in 2 directly for x

The limit can only exist if the denominator also is 0 when you plug in 2
