Since you are given a table which you should fill in with values, based on those points, you should be able to draw the two equations graphically. Therefore if you did that, you should be able to look out for the intersections or common points graphically, not algebraically, like you tried.
I’m not understanding what you’re telling me. I’ll show you what I’m talking about, maybe I might have a better grasp if I show you my process.

Im plugging in the values of “y” to find x as per the equation on the left chart. The answer on the back is -47, but I can’t figure out how to get there

So here you got a table, a table of points to be exact, which you are supposed to fill.
So you can use the to draw a basic picture of those equations

You are given y coordinate. So you plug in y and solve for x.
Let's do the first line together:
y = -4
x+ 2(-4)² = 4(-4) + 1
Now solve for x and you got the x coordinate at y = -4
