looks like it means n* is greater than the maximum value between 2 and 1/ε

Can someone explain this notational part of the answer? I dont know why its written as max {2, 1/e}, why isnt it min? Would it not make more sense then, alternatively can i write for n greater or equal to this holds for 1/e etc.?
