wait
lemme check that again
๐ he is correct
because if you multiply corresponding sides of the smaller triangle by 3/2
you get the same triangle as the bigger one
so the triangles are similar with a dilation factor of 3/2
i'm not sure i understand your question
but my guess is that you're asking how do you know they are starting with triangle tuv and dilating it to triangle wxy and not the other way around.
my answer to that question:
triangle tuv is transformed into wxy with a scale factor of 3/2. This means that they took triangle tuv and scaled it by a factor of 3/2 to get wxy.
It's just the wording, you kinda have to know which way it is talking about, i don't really know how to explain it โ ๏ธ
i'm probably not even answering the right question lol
@opal prawn so suppose we know that the scale factor from TUV to WXY is 3/2 (which we know cuz its given in the question) and suppose we do NOT know that WX = 8,
(1) we try 12 * (3/2) which is 18 as WX length.
but now the question says WX is 8 and not 18...
(2) So we try to match LHS and RHS
12 * x = 8
therefore, x = 8/12 or 2/3 (Scale factor)
Thus, we proved that 3/2 scale factor is incorrect as LHS is not equal to RHS.
Step (1) is to prove theodore's claim wrong and step (2) is to explain the right answer.
This would tell you that this is option C is the right answer (I think this is what you asked? o_0
Also idk how to explain this but....
Option A is right actually... its just that theodore i think is wrong. Cuz scale factor of triangle WXY to triangle TUV is 3/2 not the other way round.
wait
yeah you're right
wth
am i missing something?
wait no
they're transforming TUV to WXY
by multiplying TUV by 3/2
which would make it bigger
I don't think its the other way around
exactly what im saying... TUV --> WXY has to be smaller and not the bigger scale factor... So I think option C is the answer..
yeah ๐
oh you mean the explanation for answer A is correct, just not the "yes" part, so C is a better answer
i think
๐
exactly:)
me? no way ^.^
