so for b, it must start with one of 6 letters. then end with one of five
so 6 choices for the middle three letters
so i think its 6x5x 6C3
can you explain to me where you got the 7 and the 4 from? (sorry
)
same for 6C3
The 7 is from the number of letters in the word PROBLEMS
how about the 4?
Sorry wait
i'm slightly confused because there 8 total letters in PROBLEMS and 6 consonants so I was wondering why 7P4 instead of 8P6
Since the the number of letters that need to be selected is 5 and we know that one of these must be a vowel the remaining positions left is 5-1=4
Does that clarify it?
Let me draw a diagram that should help
ah yes please

i'm sorry this is the topic I struggle most with I'm sorry for asking too many questions
No problem. I also find some of these combinatorics questions confusing
o7
Tell me if there is anything here that doesn't make sense
the - - - - - represents the consonants right
Not just consonants, any letter from PROBLEMS
Because E can still be chosen in the first case
ah so 5 letters?
In total there are 5 letters, but the question gives a restriction. The restriction is that the first letter must be a vowel.
That is why I put O and E at the start
yes
i still don't get the 4 ;;
uh huh
And after placing one vowel for the start of the word, how many letters still need to be chosen?
i probably will need help with other questions but I'll try to do the rest and figure out on my own before asking for help TT
Ok! Good luck
XD
ah nvm i do need help on this

1 x 2 and so on does 1 represent me taking 1 letter which is B and 2 is vowels
Can you try using the format I did? It might help U visualise it better.
You are not wrong in saying you have 2 positions already occupied
still following the 5 letter word format right
Yes
Remember that the condition is that there has to be a vowel at the end and the word MUST begin with B
There should be 2 cases
oh whoops not s I meant B
all g
Not quite. It is saying that the vowel must be in the last spot
B 4 3 2 1
5 4 3 2 any vowel?
It says "and" so B MUST be occupying the first position and a vowel MUST be in the last position
Yes
oh-
wait how come?
You can't select 4 letters when there are only 3 positions left
How many letter can be placed in the second box?
So it would be
B 3 2 1 (one of the vowels)
what happened to the 5 and 4 if the vowels are at the end after 1? do they take the place of 0?
Not zero just 1
how come they don't replace 1?
since the 1 is at the very end and vowels are also said to be at the end
nvm i think i figured it out

sorry for bomboarding you with dumb questions
No, don't worry about it
Sorry I had to go
