#

do you know the formulae for nCr and nPr?

safe palm
#

Ye

coral rose
#

have u found r?

safe palm
#

Yes

#

r = 4!

coral rose
#

so that gives us n!/(n-4)! = 3024 correct

#

using nPr = 3024

safe palm
#

Yes

#

Yes

coral rose
#

can you simplify that any further?

safe palm
#

n (n-1) (n-2) (n-3) = 3024

#

Correct?

#

And i can't simplify any further

#

I got stuck here

safe palm
coral rose
#

well if u have access to a basic calculator you can use the rational root theorem and test with values until the equation is satisfied

#

without one it would be a bit involved

safe palm
#

I have a calculater

#

But pls can u show me how to do it

#

I got n = 1515

#

Which I don't think is right

coral rose
#

if your calculator has a solver function you could just put in the equation

#

x(x-1)(x-2)(x-3) = 3024

#

and solve for that

#

otherwise just test with different values of n until the equation is satisfied

safe palm
#

.solve x(x-1) (x-2) (x-3) = 3024

merry sail
#

just expand it out and use rational root theorem as inf suggested

#

as perms and combs only deal with integer selections and selectors

#

hence n is an integer

#

and n >0

safe palm
merry sail
#

will there be a constant term though?

coral rose
#

is the constant term

merry sail
#

true

#

and if r=4!

#

24

#

n>24

#

and an integer

coral rose
#

sorry misread your thing

#

r = 4

merry sail
#

yeah

coral rose
#

n > 4

merry sail
#

yeah

coral rose
#

it's 4 not 4!

merry sail
#

yeah

safe palm
#

Can u guys do it?

merry sail
#

r! = 4! ?

#

so r = 4?

coral rose
#

obviously n can't be less than 4

coral rose
#

then n = 6

#

n = 7

merry sail
#

blud what

coral rose
#

so on until the equation is satified

safe palm
#

r = 24 I break it down to r = 4!

merry sail
#

r = 24?

coral rose
#

r = 4 right

#

r! = 24

#

3024/126 = 24 (nPr / nCr)

#

that gives us r! not r

safe palm
#

r! = 4!

coral rose
#

yes

#

so r = 4

safe palm
#

But that would take a lot of time

coral rose
#

you don't need to if u have a scientific calculator with equation solving capabilities

#

if you don't then expanding and trying with values is basically the only way

safe palm
#

,calc x(x-1)(x-2)(x-3) = 3024

I have to no idea how

merry sail
#

n=9

#

from pascal's triangle

safe palm
#

No idea what's Pascal triangle

merry sail
#

n=9 is your answer

safe palm
#

n = 9 or n = 9!?

coral rose
#

n = 9

#

not 9!

safe palm
#

Btw I don't need answer

#

I need steps

merry sail
#

bruv

#

it's just finding the roots of n(n-1)(n-2)(n-3) - 3024 = 0

coral rose
#

my guy we legit gave you like 3 ways to do it

merry sail
#

which is just cancerous

coral rose
#

well he said he has a calc

#

so it wouldn't be very hard

safe palm
#

I don't have a scientific calc

coral rose
merry sail
#

what's he quoting on paper though lmao

#

"guessing answer with calculator"

coral rose
#

true

#

Prime factors are 2^4* 3^3*7

safe palm
#

I have no idea what's Rational root

coral rose
#

u can do prime factorization and try to plug in values though right?

#

that was suggested too

safe palm
#

Okay so

merry sail
#

has your class been taught rational roots theorem before?

safe palm
#

n (n-1) (n-2) (n-3) = 2^4 * 3^3 * 7

merry sail
#

or pascal's triangle

safe palm
#

Nope

upper arrow
merry sail
#

have you covered polynomials yet

safe palm
#

I m not from Maths field

#

I am just trying maths for fun

merry sail
#

oh lol

safe palm
#

Trying to expand my knowledge

upper arrow
#

If ur a beginner it's best if you stay simple for now

safe palm
#

Nah I was given this question

#

By my friends

merry sail
#

visually

safe palm
#

9 8 7 6 is 9! Right?

merry sail
#

rhs = 9 x 8 x 7 x 6

#

let n= 9

#

and you get lhs

#

so n = 9

safe palm
#

Oh

#

Thanks finally

#

Finally I got the answer

merry sail
#

because you want to represent rhs as product of 4 consecutive integers

#

and the largest integer is n

#

as lhs is n(n-1)(n-2)(n-3)

#

@safe palm

#

do .close

safe palm
#

Thanks buddy

#

Have a great day

merry sail
#

np

#

do .close

#

like use that command please

safe palm
#

.close
