Hi, i need help with implicit differentiation like the title says. you have to take the derivative with respect to x of both sides of the equation using the product or chain rule. so i know how do do that but after i take the derivative, i'm stuck on figuring out what gets multiplied by dy/dx. like i don't exactly understand what it means to write dy/dx wherever we are differentiating y. like in some problems it will be like for example, 5x - x^2•y^3 = 2k and upon taking the derivative you end up with 5 - (2xy^3 + 3x^2•y^2 • dy/dx) = 2 • dy/dx. like my question is WHY is 3x^2•y^2 multiplied by dy/dx instead of the 2xy^3 or whatever. like how do you know where to put dy/dx. idk if i even explained this well

sorry this is probably helpful instead of me explaining the problem

#

i take the derivative but then i don't know where to put dy/dx

#

like why does it get multiplied where it does in this problem and not the 2xy^3 instead

Think strangely of y like a function of x

#

So when you apply the chain or product rule you write y'(x) or dy/dx
