#The Unsolvable (2) 3x+1
111 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Do you think a bunch of people on Discord would be able to solve the collatz conjecture because you asked them to

No? I didn't ask anyone to. This is just the place to try and solve it. The way you laughed just made you look dumb.
I wish I could solve insanely difficult mathematical problems just by insulting them.
politicians lore
xD
I swear what all some of them do is shout.
.
I found an error in the conjecture!!! If you start with zero it just loops at zero! (This is a joke.)
That makes kind of sense though, don't you think?
yeha yeanh
The thing is that this kind of conjecture doesn’t have like any applications… The only interesting thing about it is that no one can prove it.
I will
I am at ease with looking dumb
You are.
Now if you want to be taken more seriously, maybe provide more precisions into what you are investigating
Oh but it does signal that our mathematics are not yet advanced enough in some regard
Seems like insulting me didn't get people to take you that much more seriously
Maybe you need to come down a little bit and learn some manners (then you can try to do some maths after)
I mean it’s good to be ambitious, but it’s incredibly unlikely you alone will prove the conjecture
Well you laughed at me which I found insulting and now you're saying I need manners?
How exactly does laughing make someone look dumb i don’t get it
I didn't laugh "at you"..?
And you probably will not prove the collatz conjecture
Unfortunately the world does not revolve around you specifically 😦
I am serious and he laughed at me and said that I "asked them" which I didn't. He laughed and got it wrong.
I never implied that and never thought of that.
I have a proof, but it is too long to fit in the margin
What is the proof about?
I mean, there really is no point in creating a thread here, since it’s incredibly unlikely anybody here has to ability to actually prove the conjecture
proceeds to die
I do but i dont feel like proving it
If anything, the ones who are actually going to make any substantial progress are likely in conference rooms and specialized seminars
goodbye
Some people here like Math. While solving something, they also find it fun.
Yeah, but why do you think that they would be able to prove such an infamous conjecture?
And if they are able to, they could win something.
look if anyone here proves it then this server is golden
Because they are advance and like something which gives them the urge to do something about a topic.
Well I have been thinking about it and have got a little progress.
news titled "discord users solving infamous mathematical problem haunting for decades" would be all over the world
LMAO
Virtually none of us are that advanced man
Collatz is prob not a simple conjecture that can be proven with elementary methods
and the stocks of discord would be higher than Microsoft
Yeah not with elementary methods but can be with college topics.
Discord is publicly traded?
Like calculus or something could do it.
just for the meme
I'm economically brainless
Not a chance lmao
If it was that easy it’d be done already
What is “something” lmao
If it’s a method not discovered until 100 years from now then it doesn’t matter
That's what mathematicians are trying to solve.
If you actually want to contribute, I’d suggest reading the literature surrounding collatz as well as the most recent progress made
It would probably be more like number theoretic methods like modular stuff. Calculus is “usually” not related to whole numbers or if it is, there are already better ways to think of the whole numbers.
Try reading a number theory book and if you still think you are the next Euler/Andrew Wiles, then keep trying.
There's probably another topic of Math that we didn't discover yet.
Imagine if we discover a specific topic that solves Collatz Conjecture and also probably solves parallel universe or something lmao.
coming to think of it, human civilizations have only been there for 4000 years, yet had so much progress, which is aamzing
Like Gaussian Prime numbers? 🤔
yeah we need to solve the parallel universes this is a pressing problem in mathematical research
Dude has been watching too much Rick and Morty.
it's right up there with the divide by zero problem
There’s literally no correlation between the two lol
not sure what i'll be working on today... goldbachs conjecture or solving how to divide by zero
Probably have
I'll be back.
are you at all familiar with sacred geometry
Unless you have good reason to believe so, it’s not likely
Again, I would start by try to read and understand a number theory book.
It can help you to see if you have any potential.
^^
And even if you do have potential, it is a very hard problem, so don’t assume it can be solved by yourself.
this is gonna become the second https://discord.com/channels/268882317391429632/1152223186247749744
It's just probably, we do not know yet so clearly I did not "believe so".
why not focus on problems that are more your level
and not problems that are like impossible
if someone could prove it, they wouldn't share it on Discord before getting it peer reviewed and published first
I know we can't technically solve it but getting more informations about it could help
So you need help finding information on this?
Not just me.
Asking for a friend too?
It's for everyone.
Ah, a discussion? Seems a bit like the wrong channel, but whatever.
Hm.

Use .unsolved if this was a mistake.
There’s something so ironic about marking a post about Collatz Conjecture as solved
discord users made it
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
It's so ironic that you're laughing because you think I want the answers of the conjecture even though this is just a channel to get more details about it and discuss it. Made you look so dumb.
Ouch, didn’t know you can’t take a joke
You seem really fun
Everyone...

In Wikipedia, even more than in real life, getting The Last Word in a debate is crucial, as it is the only proof of your argumentative success over competing editors. The following is a useful collection of suggestions on why and how to obtain your right to have the Last Word, however tenaciously your opponent may be trying to rob you of your pr...
Aren't jokes supposed to be funny and not laughing at something serious?
Please explain to me what you find so serious about tagging a post called “The Unsolvable (2) 3x+1” as solved. No idea why you are so upset over a lighthearted joke with absolutely nobody being laughed at
alex seems like he has no fun in his life
ever!
its okay guys
everyone should be happy and loved
I closed the post that's why it says "solved"
