Btw my Current answer is:
Common Factor = 7x
Remaining Factor = -x - 8 + 7x
Factored Form = (7x)(-x - 8 +7x)

Try multiplying the 7x back into the brackets, and you will see whether it's right or not.
(you're not quite right, but your close and I think you'll see the answer when you do the check)

my answer rn is -7x^2 = 56x + 49x^2
So when you multiplied back in, you didn't get the same thing
So something was off
Notice that if you factor out 7x, then when you multiply it back in, everything will have an x
but the original expression has a +49 on the end with no x
so how can i remove the x^2 from the 49?
You can't. The point is that your answer didn't work when you checked it, so you have the wrong answer.

You can test it for yourself by multiplying the -7 back in!
As for a negative gcf, you can always have a negative gcf. It's personal choice whether you want to or not.
My personal taste is that I want the leading coefficient inside the brackets to be positive, so I would use a negative gcf here as you did so that x^2 is positive inside the brackets.
