How can width by twice the length. it would become the length in that case; would it not?

#

is it a trick question that in some places width/length means something different?

#

or is it just an incorrect question?

I guess incorrectly worded but don't worry bout it

I've been teaching math for a while and I've never even heard of the idea that length and width should be the longer or shorter side.

well not math teacher but yeah

surreal pelican
#

usually with rectangular things u just assume l > w

#

at least thats what we were always taught

It’s worded correctly

#

Just w=2l what is lw?

#

Idk if I’m missing something

surreal pelican
agile acorn
#

Doesn’t have to be

#

And here width is bigger

#

Ignore convention

surreal pelican
#

well. its mathematical convention in most places

agile acorn
#

And just solve

surreal pelican
#

well i am in-tune with conventions so i ended up making a "mistake"

agile acorn
#

agile acorn
agile acorn
#

Also there is only one right answer even following convention

surreal pelican
#

so if GRE doesnt follow convention

#

its a bit worrying

agile acorn
#

Then use negative side lengths

#

And solve it

#

Still gets the same answer

surreal pelican
#

negative side lengths?

agile acorn
#

Idk if you want it to follow convention

#

It gets the same answer

#

But it seems really dumb

surreal pelican
#

thing is. im not so much worried about "how to solve it" but rather "will i solve it "wrong" because in some other topic they again do not follow mathematical conventions" and i wanted to know if this was indeed incorrectly worded

surreal pelican
#

so i ended up getting a different answer

agile acorn
#

Oh

#

Just forget everything you learned

surreal pelican
#

lol

#

that wont help much either i think

agile acorn
#

Good luck

surreal pelican
#

but yeah maybe some things

#

thnx 👍

agile acorn
#

Also why does the problem look like it’s from algebra 1

surreal pelican
#

its also sometimes annoying that they tell u "u cant assume if something is the center or origin" just because its drawn that way, but then draw a cartesian plane without marking (0,0) and then assume its (0,0) some inconsistencies ig. i have even seem some completely wrong answers afair

agile acorn
#

Also reread all questions

#

Can you show me some

#

That seems really bad for the GRe

surreal pelican
# agile acorn Also reread all questions

i sadly always read questions a couple times because it takes me a while to process. but then u run out of time. i have adhd too so silly mistakes is rather easy for me

#

its not like im bad at math but yeah

surreal pelican
#

this was one ig

#

tho i dont remember if they got the answer wrong in the book or just that i had a doubt

agile acorn
#

What is it asking for

surreal pelican
#

which quantity is greater

#

or are they equal

#

or if it cannot be detemined

agile acorn
#

Oh

#

Just equal

#

I think

surreal pelican
#

i forget whats the correct answer and what the book said

#

there was also this. again. not sure if i got it wrong or book did or something

agile acorn
#

E

surreal pelican
#

but they draw it in a way to juke u. afaik i did get it correct but i was confused a bit

agile acorn
#

And D

surreal pelican
#

then again u dont know if y is a right angeled triangle

#

i dont remember what the correct answer is tbh

#

u could end up with something odd like this

#

whether it would still be equal idk

#

base is same. height.. not sure 🤔

agile acorn
#

It’s always equal I think

surreal pelican
#

🤷‍♀️

#

i cant find the answers rn anyways

#

been a while

surreal pelican
#

or even B?

#

btw i think it can only have one answer

#

but again. dont remember too well and cant find it

#

idk why i cant find it now. odd

#

@agile acorn ah. just got one example while practicising

#

asks in least std dev to highest. but none of the options have Z first

#

forget that

#

all options are same lol

#

reading explanation helps sometimes

#

so errors like this happen in the book once every 2-3 chapters

#

even the book itself likely wouldnt get a perfect GRE score 😂

@agile acorn just took a diagnostic test. got all answers correct except ones based on this chart. I did not know/understand that federal debt is considered a subset of public debt (in our country its considered seperate)

#

so i lost 2 questions. my predicted score is 165/170

#

but in real test, there are 3-4 questions based on charts. so i should probably focus mainly on that perhaps. though the real test was also much much harder from what i remember so idk...

#

if i make a fundamental mistake in understanding the chart. my score can easily fall to 160...

#

i will probably complete more data interpretation tasks ig

#

wish i had more practice tests but i dont think i do

#

also have a headache

#

wtf is federal debt held by public and held by federal debt held by government accounts anyways?
