I think for multiplying, etc. numbers fast you just have to practise and do a lot of multiplications, divisions, etc. there is no magic behind it. Or do you mean you don't know at all how to do it?

and a variable is a placeholder

imagine a menu

where the order is x

if you were to order a burger, x = burger

#

for example

but variables are for numbers not food

#

so if x was the amount of days you were in this server, 22-19=x, x = 3

#

however, variables can be used in the middle of equations

#

think of this equation 4+x=5

#

to solve it, we must kind of "reverse engineer" it

the inverse of addition is subtraction and therefore we use subtraction to find the answer
