#WHY: Sum of binom coeff = || 2^(binom's power) ||

,texsp Can't understand the logic behind it. I've seen Pascal's triangle, know what \binom{n}{k} is and how it's calculated and why, but where does ||2^n|| come from? Can someone please explain in to me in, like, really simple terms? Like in sausages and bricks. I've kind of jumped a little above my level, I think.

(It's not homework or the like, it's from a book I'm reading)
