In order to add fractions, you must have the same denominators.

So as you can see in this photo, the denominators are not the same.

So look at the denominator of 7/12. It's 12.

And look at the denominator of 2/3. It's 3.

12 is divisible by 3.

This means that we can multiply the numerator and denominator of 2/3 by a number to get a denominator of 12.
