The direction is "solve for x and unknown variable" its an assignment which not yet taught us... I've been stuck with this for hours, literally.

Can we assume the two triangles are congruent?

(Sorry Im not incredibly talented at math I was just looking at other questions while I was waiting for help and this looked kinda familiar)

If they are congruent we have 2 provided angles: 90 and 78, which means we have to use the sum to subtract from 180

becos thats the sum of a triangles interior angles

so 180-168=12

I think congruence should be on the right track. From that you can know that
angle TSV = 78°
and VT = 2y - 1

You should be able to then easily solve for x because you have 2 of the 3 angles in the triangle anyway
