I've got a question on my homework, it's the limit of the function int(x) (the parent integer function, not an integral) as x-> 1/2
My book says there's a left and right hand limit but that's because at each integer, the line of the function moves up by one (it looks like a stair)
What in getting at is, do I have to worry about both the left and right limits or am I good because they're the same?

hot knoll
#

For any function you always need to consider left and right

Step functions are definitely ones where it matters

#

If you go to where you switch stairs

#

The values are different from left and right

#

Butty if you're in between

errant agate
#

Yeah, that part makes sense, but in my case, the limit is in the middle of one of the steps, not on the shift

hot knoll
#

Yea

#

Then you're good it would just be whatever integer

@frank sable Has your question been resolved?

queen crater
#

You just want to pick y between x and 1

#

There's a fairly natural way to pick a number between two numbers

#

@frank sable ?

#

If I give you two numbers a and b, can you give me a number in between?

#

...which one?

#

Sure, what is that in terms of a and b?

#

Yes

#

Also called the mean or average

#

What's a number between x and 1?

#

āœ…

#

Because it says y is in [0;1) so y < 1, and the point is to have y > x too

#

So x < y < 1

#

Into y = (x+1)/2, yeah

#

Can you write (x+1)/2 differently?

#

āœ…

#

Yes

#

Exactly

slow sleet

end behavior refers to a behavior of a function as the input values approach positive or negative infinity. this is what i have in my notes

ok, so, taking C for instance

as t goes to negative infinity what happens to f(t)?

#

what about g(t)?

they dont share the same end behavior

im telling you what i am thinking and asking if i am right

the circle can be graphed

lime ether

"given that all points on the circle are the same distance from the origin" is probably the dumbest thing i’ve heard today

gusty bloom
#

last question!! I need help on this then I’m done for tonight

craggy tapir
gusty bloom
#

nothing. I’m super confused, I’m thinking about trying to divide b to isolate it and then dividing v or something

#

I’m not really sure 1r_awkward

craggy tapir
#

you are on the right track

gusty bloom
#

o I mean h not b

craggy tapir
#

now you are on the wrong track

gusty bloom
#

whaaaaaa

craggy tapir
glossy valveBOT
craggy tapir
#

and it is asking you to derive the formula for h from this

#

so...?

gusty bloom
#

So…?

#

uhh I dunno that’s why I came here for help

craggy tapir
#

treat B/3 as a constant

gusty bloom
#

I have no idea um what u are talking about I just started freshman year idk how to do math

craggy tapir
gusty bloom
#

HOW DI U RECOGNIZE THAT

craggy tapir
#

cuz i play it too?

gusty bloom
#

oooh cool!!!!

craggy tapir
#

get h to one side and everything else to the other side

gusty bloom
#

yea so uhhhh

#

do I

#

like

#

divide b or h

craggy tapir
#

divide B

gusty bloom
#

cus then I could get vh or something and divide v

gusty bloom
#

okay so v/b = 1/3h?

craggy tapir
#

yes, and now get the 1/3 to the other side too

gusty bloom
#

uhhh uh uh how

#

how could I divide that

craggy tapir
#

multiplying by 1/3 is dividing by 3

gusty bloom
#

Vx1/bx3? or like plus or minus

gusty bloom
#

but I already have a fraction how do I divide that

craggy tapir
#

how do you solve for $x$ in $\frac x 3=6$?

glossy valveBOT
gusty bloom
#

multiply by x?

#

so 3 = 6x?

#

or no

#

sigh

#

cross multiply?

#

x/3 = 6/1 or 1/6

craggy tapir
#

overcomplicated

gusty bloom
#

okay well idk what to dooooo

craggy tapir
#

you multiply by 3 on both sides

#

that's it

gusty bloom
#

wait so

hexed hearth
gusty bloom
#

so

hexed hearth
#

so we can get the sure value of x and not x / 3

gusty bloom
#

V/b = x..?

#

oh

#

o

craggy tapir
#

wrong

gusty bloom
#

okay dang 😭

hexed hearth
#

3v/b = x

gusty bloom
#

okay

craggy tapir
#

right now you are having h/3 = V/B

hexed hearth
#

cause you multiplied both sides by 3

gusty bloom
#

what the flip

#

ok I’m failing math

#

what is this

hexed hearth
gusty bloom
#

.everything

hexed hearth
gusty bloom
#

why wouldn’t it be v/b = h

#

if ur getting rid of 1/3

#

by multiplying

#

what

#

AUGHH

hexed hearth
# gusty bloom if ur getting rid of 1/3

you cant get rid of the 1/3 without balancing it out right so if you multiply 3 on the right hand side of the equation you have to multiply on the left hand side as well

#

on the right hand side it becomes 3/3 = 1

#

on the left hand side it stays as it is cause there's no 3 in the denom to make it 1

gusty bloom
#

ok I don’t understand how that makes it wrong

#

sigh

#

I mean it’s js homework idrc…

#

AAAAAAAA

#

ughhhhhh

#

why is math so complicated

hexed hearth
#

if you multiply one side of the equation by smth you NEED to multiply the other side of the equation by the same thing

#

its called an equation for a reason cause both sides have to be balanced

#

imagine a weighing scale if you put 2 other bananas on one side you need to put an equal amount on the other side to keep it equal

#

hence the term "equation"

gusty bloom
#

so 3v = bh

#

Thats what I’m seeing

hexed hearth
gusty bloom
#

.o

#

I thought that was wrong

#

COUGHH

hexed hearth
#

but did you get how šŸ˜‚

gusty bloom
#

why does b magically switch tho???

hexed hearth
#

wdymm

#

how'd it magically switch bro

#

b is b

#

#

have they not taught you algebra in school?

gusty bloom
#

sigh idk

#

I don’t know what’s happening

#

I just spawned

#

so do I divide by 3 next

#

I’m. so confused

#

how the flip would I isolate h then

#

UGHH

#

I wanna go to bed

#

and there’s a part 2

#

I thought this would be a quick last quesiton

#

question

#

help meeeeeeee

#

wait

#

do I didvide b

#

wait why am I smart

#

omg

#

I do divide b don’t I

#

omg I’m such a pro

so is it 3v/b=h

#

L(8) means you should substitute 8 wherever you see t

#

In this case 1150 + 7/2*8

dire ocean
#

where do you get those numbers from

#

: (

timid iris
#

Do you know how to solve a linear equation in 1 variable?

dire ocean
#

im slow in math

timid iris
#

Oh np

dire ocean
#

ehh can you give an example, english isnt my first alnguage so im not sure what you mean

timid iris
#

You have f(t) = 1150 + 3.5*t

dire ocean
#

yes

timid iris
#

So now put t= 8

#

Because you want f(8)

dire ocean
#

f (8)=1150+3.5*8?

timid iris
#

Yes

#

Correct

dire ocean
#

do we have to keep the f in

timid iris
#

?

dire ocean
#

in the beginning of the equation

timid iris
#

Yes

dire ocean
#

does it stand for function?

timid iris
#

f means function

#

basically function in t

timid iris
dire ocean
#

yes

timid iris
#

So did you complete this part?

dire ocean
#

putting the 8's in? then yes

timid iris
#

Yes

#

Btw what is your first language

dire ocean
#

danish

timid iris
#

Oh I don't know Danish

#

Should we start the next part?

dire ocean
#

yes please

#

and all the danish terms are differeeeent

timid iris
#

Ohh

dire ocean
#

doesnt help with my lack of math skills

timid iris
#

For this you are given f(t) = 1200

dire ocean
#

yes

timid iris
#

And we know that f(t) is 1150 + 3.5*t

dire ocean
#

yeah

timid iris
#

Do you see where this is going?

dire ocean
#

is it going to be the thing where i solve things on both sides?

#

is there an x??

timid iris
#

Yes

#

Instead of an x we have a t

dire ocean
#

ohh

timid iris
#

Which is basically the same thing

dire ocean
#

but its an 8 now?

timid iris
#

From the above 2 things we can say that 1150 + 3.5*t = 1200

timid iris
dire ocean
#

so we dont change it to 8's?

timid iris
#

hmm

#

See

#

F(t) is 1150 + 3.5t

#

And according to the part f(t) is 1200

#

So 1150 + 3.5t is 1200

dire ocean
#

i think i understand, but just to be sure, what part are you speaking about?

#

the next task?

timid iris
#

Second part

dire ocean
#

or did you solve

timid iris
#

b)

dire ocean
#

i think i get

#

yes

#

okay

timid iris
#

Nice

#

so now both a and b are done right?

dire ocean
#

wait what were the answers

timid iris
#

I should not tell you the answers

#

Only method

dire ocean
#

yes i understand

#

can you maybe guide me tho

#

just to be sure

#

we have the equation and i need to solve it

timid iris
dire ocean
#

8=1150+3.5*8?

timid iris
#

What is the value of 1150 + 3.5*8?

dire ocean
#

1200?

timid iris
#

No

dire ocean
#

oh

#

hold on

timid iris
#

What is 8*3.5?

dire ocean
#

28

#

?

timid iris
#

Yes

#

Correct

timid iris
dire ocean
#

1178?

timid iris
#

Yes

#

So now a) is done

#

Let's start b)

dire ocean
#

okey

timid iris
dire ocean
#

thank you for your patience btw

dire ocean
timid iris
#

Ohh

#

Well let's see it like this

#

A cookie jar has 10 cookies

#

Every day 2 are eaten

#

So we can say that number of cookies will be 10 - 2*x

#

?

dire ocean
#

yeah

#

ive never seen it put like that

timid iris
#

Ok so now tell me after how many days

dire ocean
#

5?

timid iris
#

4 cookies will be left

dire ocean
#

3

#

?

timid iris
timid iris
#

We are doing the same thing

#

Instead somehow the number of cookies is increasing by 3.5

#

And initially we have 1150 cookies

dire ocean
#

yes okay

timid iris
dire ocean
#

i think i understand it better now thank you

#

:, ))

timid iris
#

Wlcm cat_uwu

#

So now can you solve for t?

dire ocean
#

what we did now?

timid iris
#

1150 + 3.5*t = 1200

#

Can you solve this equation?

dire ocean
#

no:(

timid iris
#

Oh lol

dire ocean
#

sorryy

#

im slow in math

#

mega slow

timid iris
#

For such things you should separate the variables and constants

#

Can you tell me what the variables and constants are in this?

dire ocean
#

arent the variables the unknowns?

timid iris
#

Yeak

#

Yeak

#

Yeah

dire ocean
#

so t?

timid iris
#

Yes 3.5t

dire ocean
#

oh

timid iris
#

And constant?

dire ocean
#

1150?

timid iris
#

And?

dire ocean
#

1200..?

timid iris
#

Yes

dire ocean
#

what exactly are constants

timid iris
#

So now let's keep variables and constants on seperate sides

#

Numbers that don't change like 5

#

Basically numbers are constants and letters are variables

dire ocean
#

ah okay

#

oh like x & y

dire ocean
#

yes

timid iris
#

Yes

dire ocean
#

so we have to move it?

timid iris
#

Yeah

dire ocean
#

how? minus??

#

or like actually move

timid iris
#

Yeah

#

Both works

dire ocean
#

what would you do

timid iris
#

I would move

dire ocean
#

what would it look like

timid iris
#

You should tell me

dire ocean
#

hm okay

timid iris
#

You are very smart lol

dire ocean
#

sorryyyy:,)))

dire ocean
timid iris
#

Now move/minus

dire ocean
#

with the 1200?

#

minus 1200 on both sides?

timid iris
#

Yes

dire ocean
#

wait shouldnt it be 1150 on both sides

timid iris
#

Yes correct

dire ocean
#

okay so

#

50+3.5*t

#

?

timid iris
#

=

dire ocean
#

where

#

grahhhh

timid iris
#

Instead of +

dire ocean
#

oh

timid iris
#

So what is the value of t?

#

Tell me the fraction

dire ocean
#

im not sure where to go from there

#

division???

#

wdymm

timid iris
#

Yes

dire ocean
#

do i devide 50 with 3.5?

timid iris
#

Yes absolutely

dire ocean
#

14,29?

#

what about the t

#

what did i dooo

timid iris
#

Correct

dire ocean

timid iris
#

timid iris

umbral dome
#

yes

stiff axle
#

I still don't get the question in general

torn jolt
#

A cube that’s 4 cm,

#

To be honest that’s js extra info

#

You just have to know it’s been cut in 64 pieces.

#

Which means that since this is a cube, L=B=H

So you can take cube root of 64 to find that the base would be 4x4. So that particular face would have 4 corners, 4 with 3 sides being shaded.

But for 2 sides being shaded, it’s simply the edge of the face. 4 on top, 4 below and 2 inbetween the left and right sides. Total of 12.

#

So in total you should have 32 cubes with atleast 2 sides shaded.

The opposite side of the cube, opposite the blue would have 12 as well. 24.
