how do they get 4^2 and 9^-1 for the exponents to factor out to get n-1 in the exponent
since isnt 4^2 * 4^n-1 = 4^2n-2 ?
likewise with the denominator
yeah...
i forgot that its adding exponents not multiplying
lol...

logically how does this make sense
am i just following a formula that 3 | 53 - 17
?
since 3 divides 36 the statment is true?
well they're both in the "2" equivalence class, mod 3
so they're equivalent to each other mod 3
what does this mean
when we look at the integers mod 3, we divide them into three boxes
the first box contains 0,3,6,9,12, ...
the second box contains 1,4,7,...
and the third box contains 2,5,8,...
how does this relate to 53 = 17 mod 3
im so confused
okay here's one thing -- the notation kinda sucks. the (mod 3) gets tacked onto the end when it should really be attached to the = sign.
like what we're really saying is $53 \overset^{\mod3}{\equiv} 17$
hayley table
Compile Error! Click the

(You may edit your message to recompile.)
this notation?
hang on
"when considered modulo 3, 53 is equivalent to 17" because they both have a remainder of 2 when divided by 3
you can think about it that way yeah, if you're from programming you'll expect mod to be an operator. it's not really used that way in math; it's a... contextualizer I guess? it changes the way you interpret the rest of the equation
again it's in the wrong place, it should be attached to the equals sign
$53 \equiv_3 17$
hayley table
so what does the 3 line equal sign mean
does it mean it goes both ways
"is equivalent to"
which means like - ok yeah they're not equal because like 53 and 17 are not the same number, but as far as mod3 is concerned, they act the same so they're equivalent
in practice you'll see people using = instead of the triple equal which is totally fine
is it bc mod 3 is in parentheses at the end with the statment so its saying 53 = 17 when interperting (mod 3) ?
so the (mod 3) is saying "hey those equivalence signs in that equation? yeah interpret those under the idea of mod3"
yeah
oh ok that makes it more clear
so what is the difference between that notatioon and regular equal sign
dont they both mean equal to
yeah and there's very little meaningful distinction between them
equivalent would be like "indistinguishable" but not necessarily equal I guess? idk. a lot of it is tradition
which is again why you see people using = in this context and it's totally understandable
ok thank you for the help
yw, you ask good questions!

why not?

question reads as follow:
n is the highest positive integer such that n^2+4567n is a perfect square, find the remainder of n divided by 1000.
i tried to write it as n^2+4567n=k^2 then 4567n=(k-n)(k+n) but the only answer i got was -4567 which is not a positive integer. I also tried many different cases but they're not an integer. Please help.
Hi
nยฒ + 4567n is a perfect square
So n(n+4567) is a perfect square
So in most simple case we should have n is a perfect square too
so we can substitute n=m^2 then get 4567=(k/m -m)(k/m +m)
is that right?
since 4567 is prime we can go k/m-m=1 and k/m+m=4567
Hmm
i checked it, it's actually a square
Cool ๐
yes i got this as well

do you have an idea on where to start?
Nope
The exercise tells you which sides and angles are congruent
I only understand find measure of A
X value is 2
How do I get the angle of A
E?
1.2?
How'd you get to that?
6 divide by 5
Why'd you think of that
do you know the concept of congruence?
consider, HN is = to BG
and HN is 35mm
Therefore?
BG = HN
And since HN is = 35mm
BG = 35mm
It also states that BG = 6x +5
Substitute that, getting: 6x +5 = 35
solve for X
Look at this
Read
35mm?
Yes

ok
ignore the top right thing
but idk how to integrate for y now
or maybe I have done something wrong
If I try to integrate for y first, I have the same problem, that I dont know how to integrate e^(y^3)

hi
question?
Hi
Dont you have manners to wave back a hi
Yeah we see
is it y - 6 / y - 9
or is it y - 6 / y - (-9)
which one is it
i mean soryry
y - 6 / x - 9
Therfore y-6/x+9 = -7
Yes
ok which one is it
So y-6 = -7(x+9)
Yeah
ok thx

How many ways can a clerk give a customer 25c in change?
I know how to do this manually. I'm just wondering if I solve it sonehow using math. (Alg 2)
@deep comet do you have the solution?
No, but I might could get it from the teacher.
Ok there are 13 ways
According to the answer guide.
I got all 13, but its messy because I did it manually.
you can think of this situation represented by an equation like 25a + 10b + 5c + d = 25 where a, b, c, d are non-negative integers
Just try listing all the possible cases
For example you could have a = 1 and the rest being 0
So for all the other cases, you need a = 0 and that simplifies things
Similarly, b can only be 1 or 2
Yeah there's no systematic way to do this other than by listing them out
In number theory and combinatorics, a partition of a non-negative integer n, also called an integer partition, is a way of writing n as a sum of positive integers. Two sums that differ only in the order of their summands are considered the same partition. (If order matters, the sum becomes a composition.) For example, 4 can be partitioned in fi...
For example there's no pattern for this
and there's also no pattern for a derangement
In the context of combinatorial mathematics, stars and bars (also called "sticks and stones", "balls and bars", and "dots and dividers") is a graphical aid for deriving certain combinatorial theorems. It was popularized by William Feller in his classic book on probability. It can be used to solve many simple counting problems, such as how many w...
Stars and bars only works cause you can imagine the different bins being separated by lines
And then the number of ways to arrange the lines and the objects to create the different possibilities given by a combination, nCr

how do you find the number a when its a probability but not a number?
how do u find the total?
$n(A)=n(A \cup B)-n(\overline{A} \cap B)$
Civil Service Pigeon
This gives you n(A)=86
Using probability = favored/total,
0.2 = 86/(total)
Which gives you the total as 430
the 335 one
?
how did u get this one
$n(\overline{B})=430-n(B)$
Civil Service Pigeon
do i have to memorise these?
these types of formulas?

Z = -1 0
0 0
how do i find nullspace of Z
can you show how you got 0?
-1X = 0
x = 0
its wrong but thats how it works for other problems if there is y component
yes the x is zero, but what about the y?
try to multiply Z with a vector like (0,1)
its 0
the thing you are forgetting is the free variable
can u please explain that
i do know about free variable but i havent encounterd this kindof problem
why its a free variable or how you find out it is one?
i know that freee varaible is the column that will not have pivot
Idk please explain
yes, so then y in your case is a free variable, as you can look at the first column as x and second as y
Ohh okay. What should i do next
the nullspace is the span of (0,1), yes
Ohh fine thanks ๐๐ป

perimeter is 60 cm im stuck on how to find the x
apply definition of perimeter to set up an equation
the perimeter is 60 centimeters around. you have to add all of the numbers to find the perimeter. you have to find x before you can see how the numbers add up. does this work for you?
you don't need to know x to be able to add stuff

I need help
What am I missing
1st and 2nd equation i think is right, but im not sure about 3rd and dont know what to do next
It is 21 instead of 27
The next thing you should do is to solve the first two equations
And then put in 3d
Yes
You should write the solutions of the first two using a parameter
||If there are quadratic equations, you always need some condition like this one, to be able to choose one of the two solutions||
And need to take with - sign
Yes, the three equations determine a up to multiplying by -1
Yes
These things always happen to me, it always is annoying
Classic me
It depends
But if my angle with x axis is wide
The vector is either (-4,1,2) or (4,-1,-2)
But its right what am i saying?
Yes, but in this case the cos has the same sign as a_x
76.a
I think then its just mistake in the answers
But im still not sure how to get sign
If i need to explain to myself why its - sign, then i cant ๐
So sqrt(21)=a_x/cos ฮธ
Yes
The angle is wide if cos ฮธ < 0
And sqrt(21) > 0
So a_x has to be negative
What is this what u use?
One of the properties / definitions of the dot product
The part where i need to understand that i need - sign is okey, my problem is that i forgot about vectors so much
$u\cdot v = |u||v|\cos\theta$
d
or it can be u1ยทv1+u2ยทv2
Yes, that's the point, with that definition it equals a_x and with the other one, sqrt(21) cos ฮธ

oh ok sorry
did that make sense
oh iโll do it right now

(2/5)(pi)(14)
ok thanks

is that right?
wait wouldnโt be 3/5?
because he has 3/5 slices left

hi
I dont understand anything
like I do not know anything
<@&286206848099549185> Grade 11 Precalc Rationals word problem
write two equations
.
the sum of their reciprocals
what is reciprocals mean
switch the numerator and denominator
yeah
what if they both had the same denominator
it would definitely make it easy to work on the equation
combine the fractions
get a common denominator
how would you combine 3/8 +1/2
and write it as a fraction
so 4/8
and add the numerators
11/8?
4+3โ 11
xy=400?
mhm
y+x=41
yup
y=40 x=1
no
(40)(1)โ 400
oh
you have a system of equations
xy=400
x+y=41
there are multiple ways to solve this
maybe youโd want to isolate one variable
and write it in terms of the other
you already started writing one variable in terms of the other
specifically, you had x = 41 - y
only factors of 41 is 1 and 41
but thatโs not the question
you have xy=400
you could say x=400/y
or you could do the same with y
and use the other equation
x+y=41
and use this value for x
or you reverse it and do x=41-y
and use that in the other equation
wonโt matter
thank u thank u
youโre welcome
๐๐๐
what do I do now
did I finish solving it
do I make the statement now
the numbers are 16 and 25
mhm youโre welcome
I dont get this now
I dont understand word problems
it says rateรtime but there's no rate
oh wait
no theres no time
there is raye
do u have time to help me with another one๐
yea sure
maybe you should draw a diagram
and set up some equations
and variables
distance=(rate)(time)
time=(distance)/(rate)
let t=time for simplicity
we can label d1=20km
d2=12 km
so if they travel downstream what do you think happens with the rate at which they travel compared to when they travel upstream
what is a diagram
like a picture
I dont understand
ok well you have t=d1v1
where v1 is the rate
or speed
but the rate
isnโt the same
in each case
the rate upstream is not the same
yk whay
maybe I need break from
math
my brain is too like
I cant process anything
that 1 word problem took all my brain power

Hi, I have no idea what Iโm doing honestly but if I could get some help getting on the right track that would be helpful, this is the work Iโve done so far, not sure if my equations are even right in the first place, thanks
looks like you're on the right track
Not really sure where to go from here, would I replace cost with the 1200000 and solve for w? Iโm not sure how to do that especially with the h variable still in the equation
@severe garden Has your question been resolved?
I can't stay to help but this looks like a Lagrange multipliers problem
that's okay, thanks for the help
hmmm, i think i can help with this one
Just looked it up and I've never seen anything like a Lagrange multipliers problem before, definitely did not go over that in class.
thank you!
gimme a sec to look it over some more
no problem, take your time i appreciate it
@severe garden Has your question been resolved?
i'm making a mistake somewhere. pretty sure i know what the answer should be, but i know i'm making a mistake somewhere
that's okay im still trying to figure it out myself rn
i've done these sorts of problems before. the way i did them was to solve for one of the variables, substitute for that variable, find the derivative, set it equal to zero, solve the for the remaining variable, plug that back into the other equation, solve for the other variable
ohhh, yea that makes sense, i think i've done some of those in physics before
so i figure that we're trying to maximize volume, so that's the equation we want to find the derivative of
so i set up the other equation with the costs
yea, this is part of the optimization unit,
and then solve for one of those variables. h is the only variable that can really be singled out there, so i solved for that one, sub'd that into the volume equation, found the derivative
the problem i'm having is making it equal to zero
so i'm pretty confident that i'm making a mistake somewhere
i'm gonna try to figure it out using that method rn
i think i may have found my problem
I just found this in my notes, idk if this question is kinda the reverse of the one Iโm having issues with or if I should just ignore it
lol, still made a mistake, ending up with a negative number for h
about to head home from work, sorry, have to go ๐ฆ
You didn't calculate V' correctly. Fix that and it'll be correct
wait would it be v'=-6w+2000=333.33?
w=333.33 i mean
messed up the derivative too lol, v'=-6w^2+2000 and then w=18.257
I think square root it
yea, messed that up, I think i've got it, then just sub w into my other equations for the answer
thank you!!! I spent way too long trying to figure that out lol

Why couldn't we just mult row 2 by -1 and add to row 3?
I have just been confused because couldn't you really zero out the last row?
that's fine, they just chose to do it in a different order
man! i got a diff answer hold on
What is the purpose of the question?
Probably wanted amost of the elements to be 1
You mean to the most simplified form ?
yeah row reduced echelon form

How do I solve this?
@gusty lodge Has your question been resolved?
! status
What step are you on?
1. I don't know where to begin.
2. I have begun but got stuck midway.
3. I got an answer but I was told that it's wrong.
4. I got an answer and would like my work checked.
5. I have a question about someone else's work/solution.
6. I have completed the problem and don't need help anymore. Thank you.
7. None of the above
Thank you๐ญ!!

@gusty lodge Has your question been resolved?
what you need help with
Idk how to solve it
For question 3
Idk if I did it right bc how am I meant to integrate the RHS
,w solve mv'+bv=ksin(ct)
lol good luck
do you know laplace transforms?
Nope
Iโm guessing this is a uni question? Iโm doing a levels rn so probs wonโt be able to solve it
is that high school level?
Yeah, Iโm 18 so pre college
i see
i would help you but the only thing i remember is solving by laplace transforms
Are they hard or would I be able to use it for this question with no previous knowledge of it?
it requires knowing how to do laplace transforms and inverse transforms
so it owuld require some knowledge

Help.
There's no parallel lines, atleast not according to the given information. (For whoever said alternate interior)
Pardon me?
Do you understand why the angle 1 is also 32? Or is that your question?
I have given the answer. I want to know how to justify it with correct geometric reasons.
The 32 degree angles. (Both of them) Are subtended by the same arc.
Oh ok...
For a given arc length, all the subtended angles on the circumference of the circle are the same.
There's only one shaded angle?
I meant like the un-labelled one.
yes
Yes.
Yeah.
Same with these two?
This arc doesn't subtend any angle on the circumference does it?
I'm not sure lol.
Circumference is like on the circle.
Yes...
The angle this arc subtends is somewhere inside the circle as is apparent in this figure.

which part?
65 deg.
I would assume we would have to justify every part of the working out.
How we got 65 deg, 39 deg, etc.
this question is based on one of the theorem u have studied in 9th standard
if u use NCERT books...
the 65 is because it's on a line with 115, angles making a straight line are supplimentary
the purple 39 is then just using the angles of triangles.
Oh... didn't notice that! Thanks.
then you have that two angles inscribed in a circle with the same arc are congruent. So knowing the purple 39 should tell you the red 39
Angles subtended by same arc is equal?
That's the one for the purple 39 deg right?
Thanks so much guys!

can anyone explain how to do part b?
do you know newton's method
kind of
try using that on y'
are you always supposed to use newtons method on the derivative of a function?
because in some other questions I did they used newton method direclty on the function and not the derivative of it so I'm confused as to when you're supposed to use it on the derivative or not
you use newton's method to find when a function is 0
in this case you want the stationary point, which is when the derivative is 0
if it asked for when y=0 then you would do it on the function itself
ohh i see

Hi, I have a new answer here that I would like to check with you guy
s
This is my original work and I discussed with someone else why my answer was wrong but they had to go before I could submit my new answer
now I have com up with (-1)^n + 1(n!)(6)/ (1 / 1 + 3^x) ^ n + 1
<@&286206848099549185> bump
I am not gonna be helping you with that definitely
Yes.
I dont know but I dont think it is super relevant because it is just a draft
but my point is just that I found the derivatives and now I am looking for the pattern to all of them
are the numbers readable?
the new one?
how come?
I use n factorial to cover the 2s I believe
yeah so i coul djust change the (1/ 1 + 3x) ^ n+1 and put it in the denominator right
btw if you know leibniz formula you can try getting a reccurent formula of f^(n)
this?
you can set g = (1+3x) so youd get (fg)^(n) = 0 for n >= 2
and (3x)'' = 0 so itd be C_0^n*f^(n)(x)g(x) + C_1^n*f^(n-1)g'(x) = 0 for n>=2
yes but in the way my professor does taylor series he says we should guess the pattern
(i mean that way is like a tip then lol, to "guess" the pattern)
am I doing math wrong
which one
yeah but that one is so wrong
the new one looks a little bit better
ohh
right
thank you
am i allowed to ask other questions in here
or should i make a new one
so
This question i am not sure how to do
to be honest
i dont evne know how to start
i dont remember doing something like this
well
hmm
they have the same slope
?
angle of the function i guess
ok so i can first take derivative of these functions
yes i know vectors
wait i just got the derivative
should i plug in 1
wait nvm
so I got the slope but I am not sure how to use it
are both of these linear algebra?
to be honest im sorry but i still dont understand how to use vectors or the angle to do this
do you mind showing me?
tg(a)?
to be honest
i dont know that
is vectors linear algebra though
I could try g'(x) = tg(B)
okay
that makes more sense to me
to be honest
yes
so the derivative i got was 5x^4 / 4 + 1 for g
and for f I got 2 / ( 1 + 3x)^2
so (1, 5x^4/4 + 1)
?
yeah
then what can i do?
oh yeah
i know how to find it
but how would that help me get the angle here
ohhh
wait is this absolute value sign or magnitude
so i would get
1, 5x^4/4 + 1 . 1. 2/(1 + 3x)^2 on left side
hmm
