yes in fact we can just prove it using bezout's identity t -(t-1)=1 so t and t-1 are certainly coprime
Yes, similary t and t+1 are also co prime
yes
So any number that's a factor of t will not be a factor of the other 2 numbers
yes
But they all multiply out to give us a perfect square
If we assume t is NOT a perfect square, because t is relatively co prime to both t-1 and t+1, t(t+1)(t-1) won't be a perfect square either
i think i understand
So do you understand why t must be a perfect square?
kind of
but is it okay to just say it like this
i mean
doesnt it need a rigorous proof
like using the decomposition of a natural number into prime factors or something
I could give you a rigorous proof
no no you don't need to tire yourself
Yeah, by induction

I had a doubt in physics related to circular motion (mechanics)
so If we bank a road, then the normal reaction becomes the centripeta force and by doing some vector math we get N = mg/cosx where x is the elevation. But in a normal inclined plane N = mgcosx, so why is N = mg/cosx in this case?
Your gay

I have seen a lot of people help phy doubts as well

As soon as I spoke
I'll draw a diagram wait
So people were literally camping this posts
kindly dm me for doubts
well for normal incline you'd split mg into components but here you split normal into components
so you equate the cos component of N to mg
and hence
that
This channel is only for on-topic discussion. Please take casual conversation to #discussion or #chill.
I will be able to solve your questions easily
but doesn't it act like an inclined plane?
like this figure
we have an inclined plane
here the block does not move with respect to the inclines y axis
in the triangle N would be the hyp, F the opp and mg the adj
cos(x)=mg/F
so F=mg/cos(x)
I get this
but why is it not mgcosx like in this case
yes look here you equate N with mgcosx and why is that?
mg cos(x) would be *perp* to the plane, not towards the center of the path
because we have reached vertical equilibrium?
In banking the object balances the sliding over the incline genrally
in which case?
its vertical with respect to the incline
right?
not actually vertical
yes, according to our conventions
why is that so?
the centripetal force acts perpendicular to mg
it shouldn't affect vertical equilibrium
so why is it not wrt incline?
yes
could you please share a diagram or smthn
so how are we in vertical equilibrium wrt ground?
oh wait
I think I kinda get it
In a normal inclined plane the block experience skidding
and here it doesnt

How have they gone from the right expression in the penultimate line to the first expression in the final line?
sub kR = t
Surely if you take out the R tho then it becomes $\frac{\sin kR}{k} \neq \operatorname{sinc}(t)$
Jacob
what?
they didn't take out the R
that R on the last line is a result of changing the differential

Good morning,
At the end of the year I have an oral exam which must be on the notion of sixth year
It must be in the form of a problematized question
Do you have any ideas (innovative subjects because all the subjects on casinos, or plane flights are already taken)
In which level are you exactly?

CBA is 30 and DBA idk
u know triangle DBA is a right triangle right?
so do you know sin or cos
yes I know trigonometry
cos DBA = DB/AB = r*sqrt(2) / 2r = sqrt(2)/2
therefore DBA is 45 deg
dba is 45
now that's it

can someone tell me if this is correct?
Nah, the median is 18
Cumulative means that 20 people have a score of 16 or below
38 people have a score of 17 or below
So that means the (38 + 1)th person has a score of 18 until the 62nd person
i was wondering if i needed to take into consideration the table
You do ofc
Lower quartile is correct but upper one isn't
(What cumulative frequency do you need for Q3?)
below 97?
62
Or basically, which person is the median
Nope
i’m not sure then
my data’s about to run out so i’m just gonna solve this on my own
thanks for the help though

Ah ok, I'll just tell you and pls remember this in future
Median = 50th person, Q1 = 25th person, and Q3 = 75th person
Technically it's the mean of the 50th and 51th etc, but they probably won't ever have a question where 51 is another category to 50
Especially if you draw a curve and they ask you to find the median or quartiles from that
You can't tell apart y = 50 from y = 50.5
but u said 75th person
70 people are at 19 or below
ohhhh

the one you got wrong?
So
sin or cos of something +2k(pi) when k is an integer is the same value right
I think k can just be any integer??😭
because the pi we have here is an angle
not a value
so I think just saying whatever and making it 1 is ok

am I doing it right?
find the slope:
f'(x) = 5x^2 - 20 / (x^2 + 4)^2, P(1,-1)
= 5(1)^2 - 20 / (1^2 + 4)^2
= 5^2 - 20 / (1 + 4)^2
= 25 - 20 / (5)^2
= 25 - 20 / 25
= 25 - 20 / 25
= 5 / 25
= 1 / 5
yes?
What's f(x) though
this is more algebra than calc ig lol
Or did they just give you f'(x)
no
5(1)^2 is not equals to 5^2
THIS

waaahhhtt
No they pulled a sneaky
waht am i doing wrong
5 * 1^2 is not 25
damn it's too early for these mind games
is it 5(x)^2 or (5x)^2 you need to clarify
It's just 5
violating the order of operations
Cause you sub in x = 1 right
wait guys
the latter
let her answer this first
oh then its correct
no
sorry
as we pretty much take what's typed at face value
so it IS 5x^2 and not (5x)^2
no
how
5x^2 is 5 being multiplied to the square of x
(5x)^2 is the square of 5x
also you'd need () around the terms on numerator when typing in plain text
basic order of operations

i still dont get this one
can you give an examle
2 * 3^2
order of operations say exponents before multiplication
power of 2 applies to the 3 only
yes
^^
the whole thing is squared
you could simplify the inside if possible
or alternatively apply power of product law
so it should be something like this then;
. f'(x) = 5x^2 - 20 / (x^2 + 4)^2
= 5(1)^2 - 20 / (1^2 + 4)^2
= 5 - 20 / (1 + 4)^2
= 5 - 20 / (5)^2
= -15 / 25
= -15 / 25
= -5 / 25
= -3 / 5
ah why did it go from 5 to 15 here?
= -5 / 25
= -3 / 5
you forgot a "1" in the 2nd last step, otherwise its all good
acutally you dont need the 2nd and 3rd last lines, just remove em
thanks
last question
is my general equation gud

how would I model this using the washer method
or with any type of integrals
Here is the entire image
@radiant zealot Has your question been resolved?
<@&286206848099549185>
I was thinking that
I could split it into two seperate parts
but I have no clue if that would work
yea it's kind of hopeless. with a formula for the center of the instrument along the tube and a function for what the thickness is at every point you can do a line integral or arc length with like pi*thickness(x)^2 inside
I don't expect to have either of those things so an approximation would just be cutting it up into a few regions and treating them as close to cylinders
actually
I just wanted to find SA
which should be easier
I think it's just as bad you just do 2pi*thickness(x) instead
I was thinking
I mean if you actually have that instrument on you you can just measure parts and estimate
if I cut it on an axis
and rotate it arounf
180 degrees
then do it for both parts
it should work no?
sounds good

Remlis
$y=\tfrac a4 x + \tfrac{21}{4}$
Remlis
m=a/4
now for the 2nd part
y=a/x^2
I've determined that the derivative is
$y'=\tfrac{-2a}{x^3}$
Remlis
so then my first thought was setting the slope equals to the derivative since it is tangent
but after working it out I end up with a/4 = a/4
on both sides

✅
ill give u another way that doesn't involve deriving
both the graph and the tangent line have equal y at x=-2
because well it's tangent in that point
the first is y=(a/4)x +21/4
like you did
for x=-2 set the y of the tangent and the y of the function to be equal
meaning (-1/2)a +21/4 =a/4
does a end up being 7?
yep
because using point slope I was able to find it
true
so you're saying to have $\frac{a}{x^2}=\frac{a}{4}+\frac{21}{4}$
Remlis
at x = -2
so you're saying to have $\frac{a}{4}=\frac{-2a}{4}+\frac{21}{4}$
Remlis
yes
$a=-2a+21$
Remlis
$3a=21$
Remlis
$a=7$
Remlis
just a small nod, it would be helpful for you if you can immediately think of this way
ignoring the new things you've learned about derivation
what that exercise basically said is that u have two graphs touching in a point
at a point x=-2
don't think too much about it but eventually you will be able to immediately think this way
so then they share a common y value at that same point
making them equal
never thought about it that way
it's faster and u will need that kind of fast approach in exams
definetly yeah
it will become your default way of thinking so dw about it
good luck with your studying 🙂
thanks, and all the best to you aswell

it comes down to the same problem as this meme
namely, that in order for a surface calculation to get better and better with smaller calculations (riemann sums), the surfaces you consider should become tangent to the surface in question
approximating a measurement of the inside doesn't have that same restriction
wait why not
e.g. in the meme here the area of the "square circle" does approach the true area even though the circumference does not

wait dude thanks
I was so confused
so area doesn't have the same issue as length
how would I model the SA of this
find some mathematical function modeling a "horn" shape (the classic "horn of gabriel" uses 1/x for example) then use the usual formula for surface area: https://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/CalcII/SurfaceArea.aspx
the problem is that is is ben

within the context of this img
the horn at the end wouldn't be perfectly in line with the axis
so I cant use SA of a revolution formula

@radiant zealot Has your question been resolved?
wait should i just seperate it
you can have different functions describing each "segment" and take surface areas separately, yes
wait is it possible for the line of revolution to be a curve
it probably is, but setting that up and integrating it is probably outside the scope of your course.
is there a formula I can use?
a special case would be a torus (donut shape) whose surface area you can look up

is it cuz f'(c) is just a random point?
c is just some value of x that lies on a given partition, in the riemann sum

do you know the formula for finding the avg?
You have to find the average of the cars deduction in price over every year
uh
isnt it just
total
/ amount of numbers
i can gived them
however I assume that every years deduction in price has to be added then divided by 10
thats for compund interest right?
yea but same works for finding how much it was originally
like how much the car was originally
before it depreciated
You're meant to find the average the price went down per year
a years price 'down' value
Ohhh wait
iahve to do 6500(0.775)^-10
which is 83157 to nearest dollar
then minus
6500
which is 76657
nearest dollar
and then divide by 10
i think
which is 7666 nearest dollar

use that
1 trillion mm^2?
0.0000000000001 km^2?

12 zeros

yes
12 zeroes including the one before the decimal point so 11
so 480mm^2
would be
0.0000000000048 km^2?
(11 zeros no need to count)

How can i solve this?
min(x) = (product of all factors of A that are not 2 or 3)
unless we assume a and b are not positive integers but that would be a bit unreasonable

how do I solve this?
Since the sphere displaces an amount of water equal to it's volume and the water is stored in a cylindrical container try equating the volume of sphere to the volume of water displaced
Take the height of the cylindrical water as h
would it be c?
Dunno I am too lazy to solve it

ok so im doing limit definition and i completely forgot how to simplify cubes like this
can someone show me like step by step ....
do you wanna do it using pascal’s triangle or FOIL
FOIL
ok
oooh
ok one sec let me do it
okay so once i get to
(x^2+2xh+h^2)(x+h)
how do i multiply those
we just apply the same concept
we would do x^2 times x
then x^2 times h
2xh times x
2xh times h
ohh ok and then do that again for each term
yep
oo okay so once i get h^3+3h^2x+3hx^2+x^3 i can just distribute the 3 from the original function
yep
cool thank u yoshi

Hi I'm doing some derivative combination problems and I'm pretty confident in my math however wolfram alpha and the answer key both list it as incorrect so can you take a look and tell me if it's just in a different order and if not then what I did wrong?
can u make that more clearer please
one moment
take your time
y=(5^x+3x^5)(sec(x))
that's the function
what I got for the derivative is
((5^xlog(x)+15x^4)(sec(x))+((5^x+3x^5)(sec(x)tan(x)))
i got sec(x)((5^x + 3x^5)tan(x) + In(5)*5^x + 15x^4)
@icy crystal
use the product rule to find the answer
huh
that's what I did......
one sedone
second
so the product rule is d/dx=(f'g)+(fg')
yes
okay one moment
u got 5^xlog(x) wrong
I don't understand the derivative of 5^x+3x^5 is 5log(5)
it's fine
i'm just desperatly trying to not fail the test tommorow
lol
do find dy/dx of 5^x
wait it's implicit?
you have to do In(5) * 5^x
no
the derivative of in(5) is one over 5 correct?
okay ln of x is one over x
yes
college freshman
16-24?
no
34?
no
somewhere in your 40s?
nup
anyway
I was close the first time
so ln of x being one of x is only true if it's a variable
and that's always true regardless of weather or not it's a variable?
if there exists bx s.t for all b is part of all integers, dy/dx bx = 1/x
s.t = such that
mb
gotcha well I think my derivative skills are pretty good just need to work on that
got it
sure

Did I get it correct? Thank you for answering so quickly!
Yeah everything looks good 👍
Alright, thanks. I was just confused cause I normally don't get decimals.
No problem 👍
With pythagorean you're bound to get decimals sometimes
unless you just simplify the radical instead of estimating it with a decimal
Yeah, thanks for checking it!
sure thing no problem

Hi. I'm trying to decompose the normal force of an object in circular motion in radial and angular components. However, why am I getting a non-zero angular component? Did I make a mistake?
@rose plume Has your question been resolved?
Obligatory looks like physics so I tag @empty gyro
@rose plume Has your question been resolved?
my bias is drawing N already perpendicular to the surface... but wouldn't normal force stop being, normal? It would be more like the force required to preserve the circular motion. But how does this even make sense?
@rose plume Has your question been resolved?

then what T x T = ?

yea the marking scheme also told me this but like why "10p"
@lusty thicket ^^
?
because the tens digit represents the number of 10s
so in 21, 2 means 2 10s
why not, M= p + q
so in pq (where its a digit and NOT multiplication), p means p 10s and q means q 1s
ye
that's... not how notation works?
e.g. in 31, 3 is the tens digit and therefore represents 3 sets of 10
in 919, "1" is the tens digit and therefore represents one set of 10
so on
i see
i see okay
ty ❤️

I need help with this question
An elevator can hold the weight of 8 adults or 12 children. How many children could ride on the elevator with 6 adults?
How many more adults can the elevator hold?
No how much children can ride with them
you need to find the n/o of adults more
then get the ratio
I got as far as 2/3 adults is equal to 1 child
Ok
i mean
there are 2 ways to solve it
you can do it stephens' way or mine
both take the same amt of steps
I got that the elevator can hold 6 adults and 6 children
Can you show me yours
try again
how many more adults can you fit in the elevator
2 adults right
and whats the ratio between adult nd children
2:3
2 adults to 3 children
Yes
since 2 adults corelates to 3 children
we can fir 3 more children in the elevator
what did u get for the answer
he originally got 6
