A tensor is basically a higher dimensional matrix, and Tensor Calculus (or Tensor analysis), is like vector calculus, but generalized into higher elements, it allows you to understand scalar calculus, vector calculus, matrix calculus, etc... I have not personally seen it yet, but it is quite interesting, as apparently it requires manifolds and differential forms, since that is the coordinate-free method of integration.

And yes this is just a very hand-wavy explanation, since I don't know about tensors, that's multi-linear algebra.

So take it with a grain of salt.

And even then, the relation between an object like a matrix and the tensor is that it represent the tensor in a specific basis. Hmm, dunno how I feel about that. Someone said they like it and they seem to know what they are talking about. I personally find it weird. A vector is a tensor in the linear map sense via its identification with the double dual (which acts on covectors). How does it move points? Vectors arent inherently linear transformations like that. Maybe they move points over like... the flow lines that a vector field gives rise to? Over just displacement? But that doesnt really work nicely anymore when you have to cleanly separate the space of vectors at a point and the underlying geometric space. But It could still be right tbh, I never heard that perspective. Still think its harder to understand than just "multilinear maps"
