Yea, but it's way easier compared to vulkan, where you have to build everything from 0
yeah, i heard vulkan is really difficult
Pretty sure you'd need like 1000 lines to put a cube on your screen
It's more modern and fast, but like
way too hard for a beginner
no shot. that sounds absurd
Yeah you need like
800 lines
You have to pour in a lot of hours if you want to be average with vulkan
the first time i tried to do anything with graphics, i attempted to draw a ribbon along a polynomial curve. it came out looking like a fucked up christmas tree
my friend said my color and my vertex data probably got crossed or smth
lmao
i havent done anything more since
it's like that sometimes (always for me)
That's the path you have to take if you're going for something like 3D graphics
CS is broad, after all
that's great c:
maybe one day I'll come to love it too
yeah! you too can have a skill that doesn't help with your employment chances :3
technically ig but i'm not sure i want to go that route because it would lock me into having to take more classes than i'd like
i saw a post on r/cscareerquestions where someone said based on their experience working with cs graduates and training them, the job market has gotten better in the last 2 years but the candidate pool is so immense that it's hard to distinguish the good from the bad
especially since everyone's resume looks the same when you have AI to write it + no work experience
oh I see, I thought you wanted to take more but couldn't because of finances
so the biggest signal ends up being the name of the school you went to..
1984
they mainly seemed to think that the quality of candidates has gotten lower
so it's just harder to filter out the crap
kinda, it's both. i want to take more but it would have to be at a slower pace which i wouldn't be able to do on financial aid
I see
oh dear
tbh i dunno who this person was, they said they trained 6 cs graduates who reached out on some youtube course, and then 6 cs graduates who reached out on the cscareerquestions reddit
well maybe not trained but coached through interviews ig
ugh cs majors 🙄
why did i unblock you
loooooooooooooooooool
was not expecting the mcdonalds
i liked the movie
I re-watched the movie with my friends and I couldn't help but think of this meme
At some point we started calling it "the cs major career anime"
poor suzume
is that a green yuri pfp or am i seeing things? >.<
is it just me or is undergrad statistics an awful nightmare class? in the last 30 days I have memorized 7 different hypothesis tests
i'm at my limit
yeah I hated it
perhaps a skill issue
I'd imagine if you learn more you can start to see the big picture but I just found it tedious
glad im not the only one
its sad cuz i actually like doing stuff with data so i had hoped it would be more sophisticated than this
YES
IT'S AWFUL
YOU UNDERSTAND MY HATRED
hey hy
If u take probability in a math department first it is better
Bc less memorization and hopefully more intuition
My math stats was basically this as well
The proof basing didnt help
Lmao
for some reason it only seems to be explained better in grad classes
i missed my chance to take the grad version of the class 💔
not at the graduate level, which locks me out of the stats class
there's always grad school though
sup
What is with C elitists?
"To be a good programmer, you need to start with C"
Why is it always C fans?
Granted I never used C but it can't be that important 😭
You don't need to "start with C" but it does help with developing basic fundamentals, it's good to have a notion of what memory management is and does before you go to a language that automates it away. Also using a language with no built in data structures except static buffers by default is actually quite fun
If that were true, I'm sure more courses would start with learning C but nobody ever does that
Yeah then I can see why it would be good to learn it at some point
they probably only know C and think they're so cool for not taking a chance at other languages
Well almost all CS degrees require at-least 1-2 courses in C
I have to take 4-5
and 4-5 in Java
and at-least 3 in python
But start with it?
(most are just what language the class is taught in, only one class on fundamentals)
C has the biggest elitists fr
Most kids at my uni came in knowing C
or at-least knowing some C
I feel so sorry for your sanity
Imagine lesson 1 and they teach you C
Why do universities still do Java?
I thought it's outdated
I'd be fine with it, it's very easy to teach control flow in C
Huge amounts of enterprise code
C# seems better
I see
There's ALWAYS greenfield projects in Java
Like always
most companies have significant Java codebases
I can see the usefulness of interpreted languages but man, I hate whenever I only find 5 bugs once I get to a certain line of the program
That's...not exactly how interpreted languages work, also use an LSP
(most editors have one built in, if you're using vim/helix/emacs you can set one up easily)
Maybe I should become one of them
Since I'll probably start next year
I mean, I personally went into uni knowing python, java, some JS, MATLAB, and rust; if anything you want to learn as many languages as you can, it makes life way easier
I use Python in VSCode
LSP?
Why did you know so much bro
What a nerd
language server protocol implementation
Who needs to know that many languages
pyright, jedi, pylance, basedpyright
I don't think I'm cut out for CS
oh you mean like IDE type checking
Did you graduate yet?
Uh most people?
I mean, I know and frequently use
- x86 asm (so boring but cool)
- BASH (and other UNIX shell variants)
- C
- C++ (not as much but I'm considering porting one of my projects to it, I've used it once for an arduino tho)
- C# (not as much as java but it's trivial if you know java)
- One of my friends got me into F# and VBNet a while ago but C# is still nice
- HTML and CSS (I hate CSS, but my website is paw-written HTML)
- Haskell (learning)
- OCaml (learning)
- Java
- Kotlin (meh, Java has all its features already)
- JavaScript (not a fan of writing it, but it's cool, @unborn meteor writes a lot of JS)
- MATLAB (I've mostly just switched to using the Python derivative sage instead)
- Python (duh)
- Rust
- R (statistics can suck my-)
Nah, probs got another year or so left, I'm behind in my degree
Wtf
You're not behind in your degree
I graduated HS and I know Python, C#, Kotlin
I can pretty much learn any language though on a similar level
Ig I know a little assembly commands too
But I don't think u need to learn all that
Just what u need for the job role
I've used terminal but I mostly used ai and googled the key words to understand them

What degree
Just cs
yeah
Or CS and maths
if it takes 5 years to do a 4 year degree you're behind
obviously
Then I saw sora 2
And I got scared for my jobs
I'm thinking of doing CS and maths
Yes I want to go into theoretical CS academia or eventually go for a maths phd and go into algebraic geometry
okay breakfast time brb
But low pay
As I was telling some others a few days ago, I'd rather get paid less than sacrifice my morals (at-least directly)
Wdym sacrifice your morals?
I don't like the idea of going through so much debt and then getting paid little
Work for companies that develop bombs, unethically train AI, siphon up user data against their own listed terms of service and rules, etc....
I'd rather take a job being paid like 80k-100k (for example) vs 300k if it means that I'm not doing something I'll stay up at night wondering about constantly
80k is not enough in some parts of the world, which is a bit terrifying tbh
ever heard of javafx? I think it makes sense why universities still use it
before pursing in cs, the first language I did in hs was c++ and then java
Why is your hs doing that
I graduated hs when i was 18
I feel like I'm not really into the programming industry anymore
Before I used to find programming cool
It used to be so cool creating programs
Now I don't have that
It just feels normal
Who doesnt
idk maybe a couple of ppl
I like all kinds of stuff in cs
Not so much into programming anymore
Like fetch execute cycle
That intrigues me
im still into programming but not bullshit languages like java or similar
I feel like I want to work as a software engineer for some time
But then eventually become a CS teacher instead
real
I tried finding some internships in cs but all i got was a lot of rejections
i even built website for it btw
nah web dev sucks
im sticking with python bc I need it for my biomedical applications programming courses in the future 🙂
I'm at the point where I need to do hard stuff to get better
But the hard stuff seems too hard to do
So I can't be bothered
u have ai since many ppl were using it and pretend its their code
I only quit cs bc of that shi
Those are impossible to get I heard
ooo that sounds fun! and meaningful too
yeah i mean it wasn't impossible to those who graduated before ai lolll
or before 2020
Make it like 2017 cause it's been cooked ever since

Focus blast, knock off, power whip, U-turn
MUMPS?
I have applied more than 50 jobs and only listed half of them
i usually write typescript and python but im a crudbob
The website really does look nice tho lol
I have to make websites for school too and they always look shit
use ui libs
I try but idk
shadcn etc
Even still
The one I need to make rn is a pixel art website though
So I’m not sure it will help
use javascript frameworks
I use reactjs
thats javascript framework
ui lib
Well I don’t LOVE it
u can also try using tailwind to make css less annoying
alternatively make simple but not ugly ui
it dont need to be mad extra
proper padding, margins, color already does a lot
That looks good fr type frog
literally me
I love teto
lovable makes some nice shit
Oh
Just chilling
Anyone know of any youtubers that can explain very well the whole concepts of pre calc, calc 1-3, physics, trig, etc
Every time I speak, I regret it immensely
Me with math
have u tried with organic chemistry tutor?
im doing calc ab as a class but my teacher lets me do the calc bc exam
3blue1brown
use #calculus if u have a specific problem
Yeah it doesn’t quite work on me
like u can't understand what he's doing?

Take the help of ai chatbots dude
that is a bad advice
Bad advice???
Well only ai ik is chat gpt
Plus times i’ve tried havent been too legit
Hmm ok thanks
Some times he comes up with conclusions without explanations or doesn’t cover the full concept
Well I’m planning on switching my major to mechanical engineering
Next year
Ooh
But tbh i suck at math
So i’m trying to get a hold of it now so i don’t suffer when i switch
Do you know linear algebra and calculus
Ooh 😅
I’m getting better tho
Nice keep it up
Linear math yes, calculus no
Well I'm also just a beginner
Highest math i got in highschool was alg 2 with financial math
Ooh
whatttt alg 2 in high school?!
But im taking business math rn
Yeah…
isnt that like a y3 course at most unis
Same I also had it in my highschool
Well, at my highschool the curriculum was alg 1, geometry, alg 2, & then custom math (I chose financial mathematics)
What are you in engineer or something
I didn’t take pre calc bc the major I planned on taking wasn’t stem related
Law
oh okie
😭
misread alg 2
Huge switch
Are you science student
What did u think I said lol
many high schools have a course called "algebra 2" that covers stuff like trigonometry, rational functions, exp/log functions, etc
it's not the "algebra 2" in unis that you're thinking of
Nope, tho i like science, the work field is too much for me
we should get rid of numbers
Yeahhh its basic
a more appropriate name for those courses might be smth like "ring theory and field theory"
Then. ???
what is "calc 3" anyway
Get rid of letters in math period
ic
3d calculus
generally, it's multivariable calculus
@jovial osprey
i thought multivar was "calc 2"...
Thats integral calculus
most of the time they stick grounded in 2 and 3 variables, but sometimes they'll venture into n dimensions
Ooh srry
Can we get much @fresh comet
higher!
higher!
I think you are math genius dude
Wohh nice to meet you dude
Do you know linear algebra and calculus
ye sometimes it doesn't give something right
I'm learning linear algebra from it dude bcz i want to become AI/ML engineer
Me all the damn time
I'm also an engineer and I can confirm that chatbot are suck at math
ik u might see it sounds correct but still gives errors or mistakes
Bro can you help me with linear algebra
What engineering
no I'm about to sleep soon
biomed
Fire
Dude
ask in #linear-algebra
I'm getting cooked with digital systems 💔
❌
i want to do ai/ml research and i dont use ai to teach me math
there are things ai is good for and math is not one of them
Every engineering student freaks me out ngl, but oh lord I wanna have that title so bad
Very true
Okh dude
i think its only taught when u do ee or biomed
Really
biomed has a part of ee
actually my current scores are below 85th percentile so maybe you shouldnt trust me
That's ok dude
Most likely, bc aerospace & mechanical doesn’t have it
Are you also and engineer
cs and math
ya
I'm still curious how math would look like in 4th year
first is just teaching us precalc and calc
I'm tired of this shit
D:
Broo
wait dont you hv two semesters
first sem is precalc and next is calc
don't call me bro
Calc 3 i guess
Do you know math like linear algebra calculus
Whyy man
doing both this semester
unfortunately
no it's baby calc actually
Ooh
the latest unit is derivatives
im also year 1 so thats strange to me
Can I call you dude then
no
their pronouns is she
means u can't
dude is meant for boys

np
Srry @light gate
u can look up for diamonds next to their name
I hate that i cant just get a job at nissan without learning all this math & just make cars
I can
I'm also a she but ur welcome to call me bro, dude or whatever since I'm ok with those lol
Make cars wow
ty!!
I’d go into automotive engineering but with mechanical i have less chance of failure & more broad opportunities
hows uni treating you :0
what are you studying
It’s uhhhh it’s something that’s for sure
How about you?
I want to become AI ML engineer
very teary today bc i got back a small assessment but i think i'll be okay soon enough, thanks for asking
are you studying cs
Nope
bc ik some places offer ai engineering as a degree
I'm studying bcom but I don't want to do it
ahh, why not
if it's the math, you can't run away from linalg and calc even in another major
As i said you i want to become AI ML engineer
I got a 56 on a math exam worth 45% so i’m lowkey dying trying to understand the next concept after missing class for a week bc of my breakup
Yahh
Sob
I'm stuck in with math and I'm not so good
you study a b.com, so you might become an ai engineer after graduation!
Just an average
what topic is this :<
do you need help
Yahh I can but without doing bcom also i can become that's whtt I am saying but it's ok
breakup? that sucks I hope ur feeling better
Future/present value or ordinary annuallity + inequalities
Thank you 🥹
My dad want to make me a businessman he told me to pursue MBA after bcom 💀
But I'm not interested
Yeah honestly
not sure you have a significant chance without a degree
I am interested in AI
if I don't understand something in math I always read books and refer to problems then practice
Yahh
good, what have you done so far
Do u, it’s ur life. U dont wanna be miserable in a job u dont like bc ur dad said so
What books
depends on what youre learning
yep
I had learned python and I am making projects like flappy bird snake game as you know I'm just a beginner so
I got tons of books
oh okayyy
have fun!
I'm too lazy to share them tho
Well i wanna master everything before calcus II before next fall semester
Yahh
And now I'm learning linear algebra calculus
Including physics & chem 1
don't try reinforcement learning on seemingly simple games so soon (flappy bird is fine), learn more abt programming first
good, you should be doing this early
Programming whtt do you means i finished python recently
one does not "finish" a language
are you fluent enough to code any algorithm you understand in it?
I think python is popular and you should be perfect in one language without learning so many programming languages that you are not good
you're interested in ai, so have you done ml in python?
Not so fluent but I take Ai help in my tasks so
don't do that...
yeah that's bad
Whyy
use ai after you learn to do things yourself
Ml
ur literally replacing urself with ai
@jovial osprey i use ai for boilerplate code and occasionally debugging
Understanding is enough i think as you know it's Ai era so you should take help of ai understanding the basis what do are doing and go on
you want to be an ai engineer, right? not ai engineer
Ai engineer yeahh
how are you going to debug 😭 😭
ML engineer
especially this, theres a lot of theory you have to know
I just started so I don't have much idea
Can you help me with it can you show me the way whtt i need to do plzzzz
@jovial osprey
Yahh
Ml nope
you should start
I only learn python recently and I'm making projects that's it
if you're not fluent in it by year 2 you'll have to catch up
Yess
look at scikit learn and pytorch
do some small projects
maybe join a couple of competitions
Ooh
speaking of which i almost forgot some deadlines
But I'm just a beginner i didn't make any projects
.
what
only honorables and mods have remindme permissions
After making small project like flappy bird and snake game
I will start with small projects and competitions
i suggest you start with mnist
As you said
join hackathons yes
Hackathons
swe is a pain but learn enough of it to build a few simple apps
Mnist ??
learn a few more languages
handwritten digits dataset, search it up
Hey listen
I have sent you friend request can you accept it
sure
bedrotting,,
If that is what you want to do, then go for it
cant really tell
How come?
lately im really interested in a lot of subject
i want to further study each of them
but i know
In STEM? Or somewhere else
u cant learn all of them
most of it stem yes
so i tried to find one that can connect all and the first thought come is math
but im not sure i can broad to my previous interest
so idk TvT
thought ?
I am in the same boat being interested in a lot of things. What I would personally do is go for the bachelors and minor in one of the other subjects. The rest could be a cool hobby project. For now, I had to make a plan on what my learning path would be in advancing my current degree in terms of math
ahhhh
wait
i see it
can i ask about the
learning path
what does that mean
like specific field ?
For math, since there are a LOT of fields to go into, I had to find the right path in terms of a core understanding, and choosing a particular field later.
So I modeled my path similar to the Harvard Math Department, and I figured it out
what is it
o . o
- Calculus
- Linear Algebra
- Discrete Math
- Real Analysis
- Complex Analysis
(in that order)
Plus doing Wolfram stuff on the side
a lot of analysis o . o
Well, for my future career path, I want to go into Telecom/Semiconductors
woahh
i guess math bachelor is a solid choice
Well, I did want to go off a pure math bachelors, but I decided to do engineering instead. Right now I am finishing my Associates and trying to get an apprenticeship/internship
o wait
the tag
i thought it mean u are in math
i forgot the tag mean the level no
Well I could minor in math when I gun for my bachelor's, but that will be awhile before I do that so I am just doing self-teaching
That way I won't get bored
hmmm i never though of minor in some subject before...
hmm hmm
well guess i figure it out thanks for the thought
Of course!
hope your work have a smooth sail
🔥
can anyone help
Sure
dont u have a degree option like natural sciences?
idk too much about it but it seems like what ur looking for
hey guys what are yall on?
In terms of math? Calculus
What is that
@fast bear @neat lintel @devout peak welcome to the mathcord
What are good books about math to read?
Thank you brother
There are so many that it's essentially impossible to list them all. If you have more specific requirements (so, one specific part of math depending on your current knowledge) maybe you could ask for suggestions in #book-recommendations
Thanks
Any specific fields you want to get into?
hmm maybe sets? that seems intresting

silverman the arithmetic of elliptic curves
jk, try david cox book on galois theory if you know anything about polynomials, groups, …
if u want to do some galois theory

hewwo's hru?

Helloooo
Videos are good for learning math in higher education.

I'm doing well! how about you?
i'm good thanks :3
I'm glad to hear

I’m failing at high school math, how do I get better at it?
read books and start self-studying things on ur own 🙂
How do I get started with self studying?
books or online sources
Any specific books you’d recommend?
i dont remember which books i have read in hs but its mostly my textbooks
u can ask in #book-recommendations
I’ll do so, thanks
@worldly horizon
hello!
hey remember that problem
with double integral
let me open a chat cant post pics here
is anybody into matrices and determinants?

Find out what you find confusing. Honestly the first step would be to go to your teachers and say I want to get better at math but I feel I’m stuck on the rock bottom. They will know how to help you specifically and professionally. If you rlly don’t wanna do that (but you should) then start with YouTube videos and tutorials on things you guys are currently studying and if that doesn’t make sense then just go back to some lower concepts that build into bigger ones
It would help to know the class ur taking
As in my grade?
No because you could be a freshman taking calculus
Are u like in algebra 1/2? geometry ? Pre calculus? Calc?
I have calculus, yes
Ooo
I have a mix of all of these
That sounds complicated
I think my advice still stands
Asking your teacher since they know you and the class you are taking better than me or anyone else here
Don’t fall behind
You can do this but you gotta take the steps !!!
Alright, will do this
As in, I shouldn’t fall behind the school?
No I meant do not wait to get help. It only gets harder if you don’t understand the concepts
It’s better to catch up rn
True
I’ll get help
Hey chat
hi, can anyone help me choose which topic would be best for my technical report?
my suggestions are:
- how automation is changing the job market
- the future of artificial intelligence (AI) in everyday life
- the evolution of computer programming languages
all these suggestions looks good to me but still can't figure out which one to go with
good choice
The Evolution of computer programming language, I think it's good , others aren't bad either but this one is easier to research on
ask chatGPT which of these is more interesting and then ask it to generate sample technical reports
Do a summary of all 3, then keep adding more interesting stuff to each topic. Whichever has the most interesting stuff, pick that one.
Choose whichever you feel most passionate about if you want something that will be easier to work on. Or something st least adjacent to what your consider an issue
Also 2 is less easy to research as theres less previous data to project but if your paper will be more theoretical that is probably the most headline worthy sounding one
Like which one people would most likely click on if they saw it lol
Oh i did not see that, what did you end up choosing?
3rd one
Loll I see
#include <stdio.h>
const unsigned long long int HashTableSize = 99999999;
const unsigned long long int NotHashTableHit = (unsigned long long int)-1;
typedef struct HashNode HashNode;
struct HashNode{
unsigned long long int Hash;
unsigned long long int x;
unsigned long long int y;
unsigned long long int depth;
HashNode* Next;
};
HashNode HashTable[HashTableSize];
int main(){
}
The compiler thinks the array size is not constant size for some reason
Does anyone here know well about college admissions
3 imho
Where
I tried in US an UK
I go to canadian highschool
Idk
which college are you trying to apply?
Canadian American Australian idk prob canadian
are u an international student or canadian?
in ontario colleges, most of them requires at least have 65 average in ur top 6 and depends on which one do u want to apply
there is no american australia or whatever that is
Explore the diverse range of colleges in Ontario, Canada, and discover a wide variety of programs and hands-on training. Find your future at OntarioColleges.ca.
look up for this
International
Colleges like as in university?
Yeah but im trying for competitive programs and schools and i wanna know the effects of a w
college and university are different
college is community and university is more competitive if u plan like toronto or waterloo
Yeah universities
which program if I may ask?
so engineering or math?
have u decided which courses are u taking for ur top 6
most undergraduate universities require u to have hs courses that usually end with a 4U or 4M course code, and they will look at ur highest top 6, which are 4U or 4M courses. u also need to get high average to get in
for example, my top 6 were ICS4U(computer science), MHF4U(advanced functions), MCV4U(calculus and vectors), CLN4U(canadian law), PLF4M(leadership), and ENG4U(english)
of course, I never took any science course after gr10 bc guidance said u dont need them since ur gonna major in cs and now I regret it
pay attention to what u want to do in undergrad bc guidance might mess u around with ur plans, so take ur time and think carefully before choosing what to do 🙂
I live in BC idk what they r
british columbia? I dont live there unfortunately
When u apply for schools in ontario
Wait can u call
no
Oh shoot
Waterloo 🙂
Its based on ur top 6 courses
Usually what do u put?
ya
And they wont care much about other courses??
ask ur guidance
English Math Physics Chem
But they wont look at other courses other than the six? Or
they will look at ur highest top 6 courses
Not others?
yep
just focus on courses u want to plan for ur major and get good grades on them
others courses are just meant to graduate hs
when I say focus on ur highest top six I meant its for admissions that ur applying to (uni name and program)
for example, this is uoft
But that makes no sense bc like
If a business major gets a f in chem thats fine bc its not required for their major?
Love how CS requires a higher average
oh im not sure about this
Then why would a cs major take bio
Isnt the whole point of doing so to get more competitive and help them with their uni applications
they dont? my guidance didnt give me any science courses when I told them i want to major in cs
i would recommend talking to ur guidance counselor tbh
if u plan applying in ontario universities/colleges. both of them have specific websites. for university use ouac website and for college use ocas then fill ur application
what do u mean?
Like dropping a course and get a withdrawn

I finished applying to PhDs and now I feel so chopped
good luck

I applied to 7 programs but
I only have 2 "safeties" so to speak idk if I applied too aggro
market is cooked this year so might as well shoot shot and reapply next year if it doesn't hit
True
I have a 4.0 and 3 publications and a couple really good award so I'm optimistic
But the market is CHOPPED
Dare I say

yeah I am similarly fucked but it's okay
I took a year off between finishing undergrad and starting PhD and it was worth it
Real
If I didn't get into a PhD then I'd probably take the year and self study or like
Idek what
I think my parents would enjoy having me home lol
I do really hope I get into one though
yeah that was what I did, I wasn't in a good place to apply to PhDs before finishing undergrad since I transferred from community college
went back home and worked a little bit to save up some money and self studied a ton and it was very worthwhile
I also transferred but I purposefully
Took an extra year
I make money by being in uni
nice
yeah it's nice to have money saved up
Only thing that sucked is that I didn't get any money from the Goldwater scholarship lol
Since I made too much money from school
I have like $30k saved up at the moment and very thankful that I live frugally enough to do this, like if I end up without a job for 6 months to a year I can just like, travel and network and it's fine
I would've liked 7500 dollars 😔
I peaked at 18k saved though now I'm closer to 15 because I've had a couple pretty nasty medical issues this year
That have been very expensive
yeah I feel that
Getting surgery soon 😔
The peak of my UG career was the Goldwater scholarship
Rn im kinda just living
Though I'm really enjoying my undergraduate thesis
The rest of everything is boring and alow
yeah I feel that, writing my undergrad thesis was when I really felt like "real mathematics" started to make sense and come into view for me, and then a lot of the things I read about in the year after this solidified my current research tastes
I'm a very spontaneous worker and I feel like my
My brain works well with the thesis lol
It's on graph theory and alforithms
one of my research projects this year is on network algorithms :P
this chat looks interesting
i had one on building a chess bot with a transformer
i have a really good one page blueprint of the architecture
unfortunately could only extract about a 100k good games. Need atleast 1 mil-5 mil for good positional plays. And my potato pc wouldnt help lol
and if i have like 5 mil games thats about 500 mil tokens divide that by 20 about 25 mil parameters and with 2000 as vocab size the embedding dimension grows and we need to downsize other params causing inadequate reasoning space. If we scale others too the model grows too complex for the dataset thus overfitting
I feel like my math professor has insane expectations, I'm in an independent study and he wants me to have done 26 exercises from some book in the span of two days, and he was like "Oh yeah that should be fine, should all be computational, make sure it's done", and I'm going through it and they're all proofs and the book is terribly (I really mean terribly) written, so every exercise is taking me like 30 minutes to 2 hours.
It's literally an unfinished draft of a textbook that he likes, and he always picks these awful textbooks that only make sense if you already know the subject
And I LOVE textbooks so don't @ me with that I have zoomer brainrot or something, I mean an exercise will just have an equation and you have to figure out if they want you to prove it or do something else with it, because it is literally an unfinished textbook.
prove it

I'm writing a blog post rn about Turing machines on a chess board
Lol
”Name’s David. 7th grade and already doing more than most. I don’t waste time on fake people or boring talk. I speak facts, not fluff. If you can keep up, cool — if not, move aside. 🔥💀”
Bro. 😭
lmaooooooooooooo
was the fire and skull emoji absolutely necessary
Btw is your pfp the plot of the gamma function?
Thats crazy... 😭
I know puberty hits some harder than others but jesus christ by the time you’re thirteen do you have to just completely “tuff guy” yourself
yep
coolio
is it just me or is this an overreaction
What makes tiktok’s algorithm so different
the emojis made me assume it was satire
i'm tempted to copypaste that bio now
into my own
LMAO
like yeah cringe tuff bio funny haha
Fair. Maybe it was.
@polar temple are you good at pixel art
no
not really
ive made some decent pixel art for a beginner
but well im a beginner
im getting into art as a hobby
i remember getting into art early 2024 for a bit until i stopped bc i needed to study for school
I was gonna say maybe you can do commissions for that 20
now im getting back
the problem is im jobless 😂
im finding a job
im praying rn
ah, well I suppose this can be a good side hustle if it takes off though that's the hard part
i realised there are pre-compiled verisons of skia
so if this goes well, aseprite will be compiled
have you tried using gpt?
skia is what was causing my issues
im using gemini
ive been using him the whole time
gemini is not that good imo
idk
idk the difference
i use gemini bc its my phones default
gemini is horrible for coding tho ik that much
hi ppl this channel looks slower, sorry to bother, I'm trying to learn maths and I need some guidance, in exchange I'm offering language lessons (Japanese, Spanish)
Yeah, you should consider switching to gpt if you're looking to diagnose issues
perhaps
im sorry but this made me laugh
i didnt expect the last part at all
as for the difference, gpt has a lot more data to work off of compared to gemini, gemini is still in it's early llm shell
Nice
if anyone's down I'm down, or if u know anyone who's down, I'm also down to be down for other down people

what do you specifically need help with tho
What's your process when you're making a pixel art piece btw
a process?
my process is going with the flow
i'm not a professional by any menas
i'm still in the tutorial phase
Hmm, right eight
Usually it's a good idea to stick with a well defined palette, of course you can use other intermediate colours but limiting often leads to better results
I haven't done math since high school, but
- I think it's super cool
- I'm gonna need a whole lot of math and mathematical thinking/problem solving skills for the future. I'm aiming to become a researcher
- I still think it's super cool
- it's cool
aseprite's got a pretty good palette system
- everyone should know maths
since I know it would be time intensive, I also give a time commitment on my part, and finally, I thought I'd find people who like maths here, and can make it better
[end of spam sorry]
If you're looking to self learn math check out prof leonard, michael penn, black pen red pen (mostly problems based), mit ocw (for early ug and higher) and khan academy (for basics), whichever works best depending on your current level
thanks
I know khan academy and ocw, but I don't have a clear picture of what I'm lacking or other unknown unknowns
this is the pixel art drawing i'm most fond of (i've made like 2 pixel art drawings)
ignore the body but anyawy this is the only image i could find but i liked the head
its supposed to be an original fakemon starter
i basically just went with the flow lol
that's mostly the problem. since I haven't done maths in a long time I'm not sure where I should even start, + I want to do it right
I'm a self learner for languages, so I know how to do that
I like 3 blue 1 brown
but there's again, a lot of things
that's really good!
I think you just need to spend a little more time practicing and looking at colour theory stuff in pixel art and you're basically a pro
hmm, he's mostly pop math-ish so you won't learn a lot there, are you comfortable with algebra?
why do you think so?
nope, I remember not paying a lot of attention in hs
i love bprp
start with algebra then
one of my fav mathtubers
helps solve problems, and interesting ideas in math are applicable to other things
i like maths and do maths but i never considered that "everyone should know maths"
ofc they should know maths at a basic level
I like his visuals and explanations, I actually watched a couple of videos when I was exploring calculus, but yeah, not a lot
Anyone active here have experience with applied maths?
hmmm
Go on to khan academy and take the tests for each grade, if you blow through it then keep taking the tests once you get stumped on a question on a specific grade then you know where to start. It’ll also helo jive your memory on the basics to use for the more complex stuff
I think people should know the ideas that conform calculus
I was reading a random book about statistical modeling with python and now I’m interested in applied maths
ngl sometimes in real conversation, i blurt out math terms (sometimes on purpose)
like as time tends to infinity
and im like "but its a sample size of 1"
that's a very good idea
my sister gets annoyed 😭
haha
I saw a video about that
idk iyk a channel called etymology nerd
he talked abt how some people specially in math undergrad programs do that
Do you guys ever get overwhelmed with the amount of math stuff out there
not with maths
but with coding
thank you goldfish2969 I'll do this
like right now
Like im trying to crack open a book and there’s way too many concepts I’ve never even heard of and im not that bad at math
i know i can do better in maths along the way
but coding is where the real imposter syndrome comes
so many people my age who'd be worse than me in cs
It’s also fun cause the problems go quick so you get constant hits if dopamine
so many people my age who'd be MUCH MUCH better than me in cs
cs has the real nerds
Same I suck at programming that’s why im doing data analytics instead of software engineering
more like the real nerds gravitate towards cs
he had a student who made a gameboy emulator for his nea project (thats 20% of our grade)
Easier to type a few lines and run models instead of creating an entire framework for sht
bros out here making a whole ass emulator at 18
maths does not compare to the potential of cs students
😭
If you blend the two you’re unstoppable
Take a look at machine learning
its craszy cuz half my cs class is actually bad
they get like grade Ds
but
i know theres so many nerds at cs
Not only do you need elite coding skills you need elite math skills you need elite coding skills
who can do so much more than me
lmao
You’d be surprised man data science is crazy
Creating prediction models to see how many people will enter your store and at which time and creating models for each location
Bro it’s nuts
You need a whole team for that
it does feel like that sometimes honestly
ig that's the imposter syndrome
You need to learn high level coding algorithms and on top of that a strong knowledge of applied mathematics and statistics
also fear of being mid
I speak 3 foreign languages and somehow I still can't seem to register I must be good at it
I think stuff like "hmm I could always speak more" or "there are probably ppl out there who speak 6, I wonder how they do it, I wish I could be as cool as them
@polar temple what sort of things have you done so far with coding?
are you going for a degree in cs at uni?
one has to stop and reflect on whether or not the people one is comparing oneself to and the comparisons being made are reasonable
CS just has a bunch of chopped nerds with their backs bent over
I had this cs teacher for highschool once he was walking as if his back was on life support
Yea but then it feels too hard
far from it
