You know what? Let's ask p-word about it
Chocolate croissant
I spent 18 years in Paris
I already did
Football World Cup
I'm more curious about ~2005 in that graph, I'm not much into soccer
What's your second favourite city in France?
Mmmmh
Now that's a good question
I really liked Dijon, but is it really what I wanna answer?
MOUTARDE
Nantes too was fun
world cup was in 1998 which is a little past the peak
What a thorough analysis
Never been
What's yours?
I've been to Annecy in August, it was amazing
Never been!
Lots of tourists but the city itself was really nice
The neighbouring villages look very nice too
But apparently it's extremely expensive
Have you been to foreign countries?
Quite a few yeah

A handful, but not a ton
Some in Europe, but also some outside
Which was your favourite?
Really
Greece
You?
My fav was by far Norway
Omg you've been to nordic countries?

Nice!
I went to Namibia too, this was amazing!
Oh wow
The wildlife there was so cool
But oh boy, you wouldn't know until you're there, things are soooooo expensive because of tourists

It's so sad that a 3rd world country has such a fucked up economy because of this
It makes life so much worse for the locals
Not even NA?
North America?
Northern Africa sorry
Urgh Africa
Have you been to Asia?
Yeah
Only morocco
Actually I've been to South Africa but I was so young I don't recall anything

Especially for the food
Yeaaaah!!
TeXackers trip to Hong Kong?
@trim osprey got some space for us to stay?
Makes me think of "Un indien dans la ville"
Holy cow, that'd have to be fries
We went to Belgium this summer, and boy oh boy did we eat some good ones

physics discord be like
“when i’m in the US and have a different opinion to someone” “gets shot”
Q:
I'm an undergraduate college student studying pure maths.
A week ago I got back my first Set Theory exam (Set Theory as in introductory stuff, e.g functions, cardinals, orderings) - the maximum possible grade was a 5, and I got a 3.3.
The TA solved the exam on the whiteboard before we received back our exam, and I found out that I didn't actually make any mistakes in the exam. It turns out that out of the 1.7 missing points, 0.7 were for not clarifying some things properly, and 1 point (a question that my teacher graded as 0/1 points) was because he couldn't understand my handwriting for that question's answer.
I talked to the teacher about this, and he said that since this is a proof-based course, part of the grade is how well the proofs are communicated to the target audience (him in this case), and that the 0/1 point question's grade was justified because of this. However, a few days later when I told my mom, she said I should appeal to my college's special accommodations program, since (1) I am affiliated with them, since I have autism and (2) when I was a kid my mom already tried to improve my handwriting through motor skills therapy, which didn't work.
(1) Is it normal for someone in a proof-based class to be deducted points for bad handwriting?
(2) If not, should I do what my mom said? Or who should I approach?
morally speaking it’s def not normal imo
Have you been in contact with the accomodations program in the past?
If it's a problem, you could get the motor skill issue documented and request an alternate exam format in the future
But yes, in proof based math classes, communicating the solution effectively is very important
yeah your teacher will prob think like the member above bc theres a lack of comprehension in regards to neurological differences in 2025 so i’d recommend to ask to submit electronically (if you could then you def deserve points off bc you could have already laid it out nicely) or go to the accommodation programs and speak with an advisor on how to assist you about the situation to get your points back
Unfortunately it is a lot of bureacratic nonsense
i think it’s just uneducated phds that think they’re educated bc they got a phd
?
well a lot of professors assume they know better. for example in this case the professor is assuming they know better about the students situation about his/her handwriting
this is actually surprisingly common from my experience and personal research in 2025
Unfortunately professors are bound by a lot of regulations coming from the university
Speaking as someone who has been the instructor of record for a class before, we would get in trouble if we offered accomodations that the disability office had not approved
no bc professors for example, professors strike for their pay but they don’t take it upon themselves to strike for student rights
professors should be teaming up and arguing about whether these regulations are fair in the first place as they’re supposed to be the educated ones critically thinking imo
of course

Sure, we can talk about how it should be
But that doesn't really matter for the question at hand
yeah to answer the question. he/she should fight for the point bc teachers are not doing their job fighting for students… therefore students must fight for themselves at this point.
and by fighting i mentioned to go to the accommodation programs advisors
yaps the most racist shit ever even getting kids to do mass murder sprees after they listen to replacement theory just different opinion things
🤷♂️
when
aren't you visiting hk in December
Yeah
it’s funny you say this bc my aim was only the physics discord 😭

Every day I tell myself I should get to bed earlier, and every night I end up watching stupid youtube videos and reading (not so) stupid discord discussions way past 3 AM
Thank you, I'll try asking
(The exam wasn't electronic, it was handwritten)
hello discussion 2
points deducted for bad communication: sure
points deducted for bad handwriting: very strange
That's at least is my limited experience
It makes sense to take points off or demand resubmission if the writing is so bad that it’s literally unreadable
I had a student I had to grade who would do this and kept making promises to fix the issue but never did
You're not wrong, in my place the normal "approved" solution is for the professor to sit with the student and have the student translate.
But I don't know how viable that is in a large course... All the people I knew that had this problem never complained about grading so i think some sort of solution was found.
I mean in the case of exams
Yeah this is too big an ask unless the student really has some disability that makes this the only possibility
in worksheets it's ok to return a "cannot read, please write on a computer next time"
The student I was grading didn’t have such an excuse he was literally writing assignments on a tablet and made the pen so thick that every letter was the same unreadable blob
I kept begging him to change the line width but he couldn’t figure it out
Then said he would type assignments but never did

At some point I just started defaulting to giving like 50% on assignments and not reading them
And said I would regrade at any point if he literally just resubmitted a version that was readable
Never happened
Such an easy fix too but some people can’t be bothered I guess
c an yall grade my homework if i write it in egyptian hieroglyphics

for someone interested in physics, is this amount of math enough? Ive already done: "calc 1 to 3, linear alg", Potentially doing: "abstract alg, analysis, metric spaces, PDEs (honours unit), diff geo, geo top"
the physics discord isnt much help so i thought i'd ask here
give suggestions on math units u think would be useful please (im starting to select electives for next year)
initially you're 'very active' on this server, then you get a job and you're awarded with emeritus title
Youll want some fourier
Depending on where you are
Maybe asymptotic analysis stuff

hey,do we have if f(f(0))=0 then f(0)=0, if that is correct or incorrect pls prove
It’s not necessarily true
Consider f(x) = 1-x
f(0) = 1, but f(f(0)) = f(1) = 0
I don't have a lot of space because I'm doing a double degree (electrical eng & physics)
We do fourier in signals & systems but ofc it lacks rigor
We have a unit called measure theory & fourier analysis. Do any of the units I mentioned seem worth dropping for it?
given f:R->R find f(x): f(f(x+y)f(x-y))=x^2-yf(y)
f( f(0)^2 ) = 0
f(f(f(0)^2)f(-f(0)^2)) = -f(0)^2 f(f(0)^2) (by substituting x = 0, y = f(0)^2)
So f(0) = 0
Setting x = y, x^2 - xf(x) = 0
So f(x) = x always
thanks
bro are so gud

How it that the long method?
Idts unless you have one
I’m like 90% sure that what I’ve got should be the critical path
If it can be done with under 3 substitutions I’ll be a little surprised

Hey guys
Hi everyone
no embed perms 😢
you have to get a colored role
ok i will pledge loyalty to this server (i did come to help out + ask for help but im sometimes afraid i may give somebody the wrong solution 🥀 )
to get a colored role, you have to stay active in either discussy, the help channels, or the topic channels
also it's ok, it happens
I usually don't help when I'm not sure about a solution I have

Heyy, I don't know if it's the right place to ask, but does anyone have some tips for making a website ? Like I'm a graduate student, looking towards research, and I have already written some useful notes (at least for me it was useful, so I wanted to share) about some constructions in maths, trying to explain in my way some stuffs, and more are coming from working groups. So I wanted to put all these in a website, but idk at all how it's expected to be...
u need programming
html, css, javascript, react, svelte, or typescript
if ur not familiar with programming languages, u could use ai as a tool if needed(sometimes its ass) or find a website builder like wix and make the website
u should look into neocities. theyre a free site hoster where you can make your own using html & css. their community is incredibly helpful and they have a discord
watch some videos explaining how sites are structured
tbh this list is confusing
also github pages exists
also some people (like me) can't learn from videos
thats fair, theres also w3schools with very simple written out explanations
welcome to the mathcord c:
so you're gonna wanna learn HTML and CSS first
i just listed the whole programming languages that u could build website with 🙂
thank you ! but I was also worried about domain names. Like I see many people having a domain name related to their uni. Is it just the host or will I need to remake a site when I will be attached to a uni ? (maybe ultra dumb question ;))
it doesn't matter that much where you learn them from, as long as it's not like very out of date
u just google shit like how to change html text, how to add images, etc etc, you slowly learn to piece it together one by one lol
react and svelte are NOT programming languages
i forgor what are they
you can move a site to whatever domain you wish as long as you can control the domain itself
javascript frameworks
it's your code, no one can take that away
with the exception of work for companies iirc
imo css and html r super easy to learn i had so much fun
fuck css lol
i have my own personal neocities site :] but ive ought to revamp them theyre oooold
nah i find it a lot easier than smth like python even though i dont know if its a fair comparison
bro hates css 🥀🥀🥀🥀
because its incorrect
no lol
i know how to apply my styles and it takes a while to make a different ones
so i had to add classes with their ID’s
, i am a full time discord moderator and right now i am managing 10 servers at once, I enjoy my job, i enjoy interacting with different communities and it's nice that people recognize me in all the chats, Recently my mother has been nagging me to get a job even though discord is my job. We had family and cousins over for dinner once and they were discussing their job prospects , My cousin is a firefighter and was talking about how physically exhausting it can be to climb ladders and manage the fire equipment. I also say that my job is hard and that my fingers get tired and that i have to do special hand/finger stretches so i dont get carpal tunnel. I heard my brother smirk and i realized that none of them take what i love to do seriously, so i stormed back to my room
A few weeks passed and i was in the middle of getting a promotion and training to become an admin when my mother opened the door and asked to speak to me , i sighed and deafened myself since i was on call, She looked at me with sad eyes and said 'Honey your father and i are kicking you out in 2 weeks if you dont get a job" , I replied telling her that once again this is my job, she then asked if i make any money from it which i replied one of the owners bought me a month of nitro for helping manage a discord raid, she told me that she didnt understand what nitro was or what a raid was, she once again told me or thats it, I am 28 years old, this is my dream and my passion, i am in the middle of completing my training and getting my admin certificate, i dont even want to imagine what my kittens would do without me if i cant go on my pc to use discord
What should i do? Any advice? Please help me because i am serious
<@&268886789983436800> wall of text copypasta
lowk overhated
Oh bro chill
Some ppl laughed at least

Also sure they can relate
There's absolutely no need to learn javascript, html, css and the whole shebang if you just want a website to write your notes on. You can just write your notes in Markdown and use a static site generator, then host it on github pages
You can vibe code it or use a website builder if you really want to go to that extent
Or just throw up a basic HTML site in like 5 minutes, which I have seen a lot of academics do
You can still use latex and stuff even with markdown. Pseudonium created a website like that recently: https://pseudonium.github.io/
Yeah, you can vibe code it if you want, but I wouldn't recommend it. I just wanted to emphasize that you don't "need programming" like the first response claimed
No of course, I do agree with you and I think that’s exactly the best way to go, host it on GitHub and just use markdown, but if you absolutely want a fancier site you can just vibe code it or use a builder
But for sure there’s no point in doing that, it’s needlessly complex and will probably be worse
true tbh it’s kinda overhated
idk why
worst thing about it is just some wack syntax or behavior which you can ignore mostly tbh
doesn’t feel much different from other scripting languages
does anyone here have highschool level chemistry knowledge
cuz i cant remember if having one electron in the outermost shell meant you have a charge of ⁻ or a ⁺
it doesnt have to mean the charge is - or +. an atom can be neutral and have an electron in the outermost shell
also first class functions is a W feature
but if it has an electron in the outermost shell, its easy to lose that electron
so it is most likely to lose it and form a +1 charge ion
(you can force it to gain an electron, or two lose two, or anything else, but these take lots of energy to do)
@dry ember
As mentioned, it depends on the atom. If you have a sodium with one electron in the outmost shell, that's a neutral atom. If you have a magnesium, then it is positively charged. If you have neon, then it is negatively charged.
However, all three of these configurations are energetically unfavorable, and likely to change rapidly.
wait what i thought charge depended on how many electrons there were?
charge = # protons - # electrons
oh
youre probably thinking about the charge of the ion formed from the element
ok i guess type coercion is probably a bad thing in some situations, but other languages kinda do it too lol
like even java will cast whatever to a string automatically if you use the + on a string and a number
even python doesnt let you do that, you gotta cast the number to a string yourself lmao
very typical for scripting languages
i dont see the hate on javascript specifically then
yea i thk its somewhat of a meme to hate on js
it might also be partly a case of i-hate-my-tools
where bcs its more familiar to more people theyre more aware of its flaws and downsides
ye
also its a small thing but i like not needing to put semicolons everywhere
like i already pressed the enter key why did i need to put a semicolon too
unless im doing 1 line statements for some reason
weak typing
Hi Omni wow you got senior mod role ;-; (I’m axkynmath, friends with you on other account)
The current year is 2025
guys please help i just came back to self teach myself mathematics i am using openstax free textbooks could you please give me the correct sequence in reading them?
I challenge this discord to work out the inequality I used to make my profile picture
f is a function, it should be x is 2
yeah sorry
First of all, what is a function?
Something that takes a value inside a mystery box to get out a different value. However, we can get into this black box to understand how it works. According to Adrian Banner, functions are about three things: Domain ( the input values ), the rule ( whether x^2, x-1, ....... etc), and lastly codomain, or more precisely, the range.
Actually, we can get deeper and deeper in that. Math is a philosophy of logic; when we understand this logic, we can learn math.

Hi
Hello Newbie.
Hi?
How are you?
Good how about you
I'm fine.
Cool
Anyways, welcome to the server. Enjoy your stay.

how are yall
I’m… alive
Any study group studying principles of mathematical analysis by Walter rudin?
I'm not aware of any study group, but if you have questions about the book that you'd like answered, you can ask in #real-complex-analysis maybe, or read #❓how-to-get-help and open a help channel
Okay, thanks a lot
range is a subset of the codomain
That's true
Codomain is all the output that can get out and cannot the logical and not logical one while the range is the real output
Hey I am new
idk try not get roasted
What do u mean?
Sybau
Welcome
and you got roasted
noon folks
hi i'm new here and just joined bc i'm somewhat interested in math, but there are gaps in my knowledge. idk where to begin (: just wondering if i can befriend anyone here or get some advice
ik this question's been asked a lot lol sorry
I like ur terrified pfp it was a great movie
indeed lol thanks
if u need to make friends in here u can use chats such as #math-discussion or #chill as they are my favorites and sometimes in this channel 🙂
also depends on what advice u want
ah thanks :))
physics nerds
please explain this to me
so I’m watching this popsci short and earth’s core spins independently of the magma and everything else around it
so bc earth’s core has been spinning slower lately, “because of angular momentum, the rest of the earth has been speeding up just a little bit”
I hate that explanation LOL I know it’s not incorrect but it sounds like conservation of angular momentum decrees that the rest of earth must magically spin faster
what’s the underlying physics going on here? what actually causes the rest of earth to spin faster?
That's wrong
Why would conservation of angular momentum apply here
Since the core and mantle are slipping there will be friction and losses, energy is also lost via the magnetic field
So the system should be losing momentum
I don't believe it does, how would it
Shouldn't we eventually stop spinning
Sounds right
Everything will die and become inert
I mean just leave the spinning ball alone forever in a vacuum it might be fine?
I see
But add things interacting with the magnetic field I would expect it to decay
Maybe I'm wrong, but this is the most consistent application of principles that I know
I don't know physics
You know more than me :3

Can someone answer my question in hel
This is a bit trickey because the outer core is a liquid
omg hi ange!!! hope you’re well :)
The speed of the outer core does vary in time and this can be observed in changes in Earth's magnetic field
magnetic field strength decreases? how does the magnetic field vary based on time?
And the speed at which the solid inner core spins changes as well, influenced by the speed of the outer core
Well you've heard about how the magnetic field undergoes reversals right
I may have but I definitely don’t know the reason
The flow of the outer core is pretty complicated and the exact reasons for geomagnetic reversals aren't fully understood but it is due to how the outer core is flowing
Anyways
We can observe changes in the speed at which the inner core rotates
It is likely exchanging momentum with the fluid outer core
On long enough time scales, the fluid outer core flowing faster will cause the mantle/crust to spin faster as well
The earth-moon system conserves angular momentum on "short" (<100 million year) timescales
I'm not sure if you mean slipping in the kinematic sense, but outer core/inner core/mantle friction is very very large so no slipping
"Friction" does not quite apply either
The mantle/outer core are solid rock but on geologic time scales, behave as viscous fluids where the "flow" comes from bonds shifting and crystal structures rearranging
Oh interesting
I thought it was magma on rock with appreciably low viscosity fluid flow, like maybe on the order of asphalt
You mean high viscosity right
i knew the mantle was solid rock and high voscosity fluid but i thought the outer core was liquid metal
It is "liquid" on geologic timescales
whats the deal with transverse seismic waves then
i was taught they dont go thru the outer core cz its a liquid
It's definitely more liquid than the mantle
but for that to be real itd have to be a liquid on seismic wave timescales which i understand are pretty short
I'm trying to find a viscosity number
"Viscosity estimates from various sources span no less than 12 orders of magnitude"
guh
Gahahahaha
So this is like
We know that shear seismic waves don't go through the outer core
And shear seismic waves don't go through liquids
So the outer core is a liquid
But how liquid is the outer core?
okay thats okay by me
as long as its not like tha mantle = solid-that-flows
im fine w having it be like the mantle = super super viscous
Yeah it flows on shorter time scales
Mantle viscosity is 10^18 to 10^24 Pa s
Water/air viscosity is 10^-6
For outer core I'm seeing numbers ranging from 10^-2 to 10^11
that's a much larger range of values than I expected
Also, it seems like the viscosity has significant vertical variation
So maybe the top layer of the outer core is liquid enough to stop seismic waves and deeper down it gets increasingly viscous
cz of the increasing pressure?
Yeah
Holy fuck, quantum viscosity
What is asphalt?
is brain fog in math a good sign
Bitumen has viscosity around 1000 to 4000
ANSWER ME
We've been lied to
how do I solve i^53*i^19 quickly
take each number mod 4
has anybody done ochem 😔
anyone know a good roadmap towards becoming a quant
Hello
Use index laws to simplify to i^72
Yes
Hey everyone!! Need help!
(I'm jee aspirants)
I’m not able to solve numerical problems ,not just the hard ones but even medium-level ones , even though I understand the concepts. I can’t seem to think of a solution or figure out the right way to tackle them. It feels like my problem-solving skills haven’t developed yet. Even when I do manage to solve something, I struggle to understand how it works in real life. I don’t even know what’s really bothering me or how to put it into words. When the teacher write questions on board, many of my classmates already know the answer or at least have an idea of what steps to take, while I just look at the problem and try to think of where to start(even I understand question still can't able to think what steps to take)
but like what question
It happens in all chapter like after completing concept portion and like formula based basic questions I can solve them but when it's come to think for how to solve particular a little level up questions , i doomed
hmm according to estimates i cld find based on the pitch drop experiments its in the 2–20 MPa s range
try to derive formulas. You'll feel like megamind
I have a few friends who does that shit
physics is better

hey guys
hallo, how do you call the "exercises sessions" of a course in your language (even english because i truly suck), in (belgian french) it would be "practical works"
It varies quite a bit
hm
travaux pratiques
same thing here in quebec french ig
Ye
je pense pas qu'elle existe dans la meme façon dans les pays anglophone
d'ailleurs, ils sont certainement pas standardisé
DarQ can speak french :O
la meme
Even more, DarQ is french

Why is no one talking about the quotients of clifford algebras by their minimal left ideals
Or minimal ideals in general
You can only remember 1 math equation permanently for the rest of your life. What would it be?
fermat's little theorem
although im not really sure how that works since if I can't remember any other math equation then I couldn't remember 1 + 1 = 2 or 5 = 5 either so there's no way I would be able to understand fermat's little theorem
yeah you get these in category theory too
Category theory
Scary
How's it defined then?
I mean you still need a measure, no?
it's a categorified version of $\forall$ and $\exists$
Pseudo (Cat theory #1 Fan)
oh are integrals used to denote areas under curves without upper bound and lower bound the same way that the sigma symbol is used to denote sums
usually when we write an integral without bounds we secretly mean an antiderivative
ok but where i dont see a dw on the left integral
what does that even mean 😭
omega is a differential form and d omega is its exterior derivative
Exact
i learned more about stokes theorem in an E&M physics class than calculus 3
now I hate multivariable calculus
lol what
this is the least useful explanation for stokes that I could possibly imagine
I think he said "measure" to mean the differential/dx
yes but it is there
What does this even mean
Like
I sorta get what you're saying
But these are some insane levels of nlab brainrot
Thank god my advisor tells me I'm forbidden from reading the nlab lmao
nlab is great though
Disobey them 😈
Like
Tbh I feel like a lot of nlab pages feel a bit
Obtuse for the purpose of using more categorical language
Which I kinda get is their goal, but like
ends are like forall and coends are like exists
this isn't even true
What part?
What the nlab does to a person is that after you finish reading a page you can go around and pretend you actually understand a topic by saying fancy words and shit but in reality you're just delusional
that's not nlab's fault though
that's the person's fault
most of the articles on the nlab are using (higher) categorical language for very well motivated reasons and I don't think this is obtuse
I agree that the people who write nlab have their reasons for doing this
The matter about obtuseness is a matter of opinion
indeed there is not
2, 3, and 8 also seem absent
you can prove it with a bit of modular arithmetic
yes, where two numbers are considered equal if they have the same remainder when divided by a given number
interesting
i tried mod some other bases
so the last digit of a number is the same as the remainder (mod 10)
2 mod 3, 2 and 3 mod 4, and 2 and 3 mod 5 don’t seem to exist
a useful property is if two numbers are equivalent mod 10, then their squares are also equivalent mod 10. this is evident if you write a = b + 10k where k is some integer and squaring both sides
lowk what is the pattern here
i’m kinda mystified
what’s also weird is that they seem to be periodic but i don’t see the link between the base and the period
wait
so then try squaring all the integers 0-9, and see what the last digit of the square is. those last digits are the only possible last digits of a square number
nvm
generally speaking the quadratic reciprocity law will determine it I think
how is college algrba different from highschool algebra?
well there are two very different things that could be meant by "college algebra":
- a course which is basically just all of high school algebra compressed into a single semester, used as a remedial course to get students ready for calculus. not any different from high school algebra except much faster paced
- a much more abstract class about sets with alternative notions of arithmetic. sometimes called "abstract algebra" to differentiate itself from the former
this person matlabs? or exchanges stack?
How messed up is this?
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8Sx5AD4/
Basically, the video shows a list of people they would be happy for if they died.
Apparently I think one of the people on the list died when she posted the TikTok. She was happy for the person dying and had a confetti filter.
I personally think this is just absolutely ridiculous. I want to believe it is satire and fake, but judging by the comment section and the current situation right now, it doesn’t look like it.
i cannot watch the video. Tik tok is banned here
Oh
so what did she do in video?
Ill send 4 photos which basically show exactly whats in the video
Erm hold up can I DM you it
#chill is having a discussion

The video’s like 5 seconds long
It basically summarizes everything that happens in the video
no problem. You from?
US
And remove the tiktok watermark or I'll be forced to downvote the video.
that's stupid. What did hulk hogan this to her?
That’s what im saying
Is it about left extremists talking about killing significant figures right?
It was before Charlie Kirk died but possibly
Do you wanna see the photos
I don't know if I will ever celebrate anyone's death.
Oh. Yea, those have been ongoing for ages. No need, I've seen them enough. It was often called out, but aleays ignored. Well... I guess until now
better ignore.
It’s very terrible in my opinion
Pretty much what I do. The left generally have better policies, but they always insist on forcing people to vote for the other side.
And time, energy, and brain Etc wasting thing.
It's surpisingly easy to just ignore it and move on with your day. Yet it seems only a few are capable of doing that.
Guys can anyone help me with my hackathon problem statements
computer science?
where are you from?

This is what lichess said to me. After losing so many games.
"Our system noticed that you lost a couple of rated games very quickly. We understand this can happen for many reasons, from a poor connection, to an opponent's clever opening trap, or simply making a mistake and resigning early.
We're writing because this pattern can also be a sign of "sandbagging," losing games on purpose to lower one's rating. To ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for everyone, our policy requires that players try their best to win every rated game.
If these quick losses were unintentional, please don't worry. This is just a friendly reminder about our Fair Play policy.
Thank you for helping keep Lichess fun and fair."
So what's the code?
😭😭
You tell me when
I'm kinda free and not free at the same time
Exams in like 3 days
Now 1 game , I'm DMing you. Details.
Ok sure
Not yet. But I just lost a game with 332 rating. Maybe he did sandbagging.
😭😭
do your hackathon thing
like now
@tropic pivot gg
you're defo better than a 250
ngl
hahhha
see ya
true
anyone here going to WMTC 25 in Thailand?
I wanna make my number system in a logic simulator so I can use logic gates and see if I can make stuff easier but I'm gonna need 4 2-bit digits to add 2 single 2-bit digits together
but I have to try and get that on my laptop
ugh I might have to move to my PC
can anyone suggest good inequalities books
Lol
Yes
same! ill message u

Yeah
So are you done with jee syllabus?
Hello my beloved untalked in ghosted channel
Where are the nice people at
Math is used to understand physics or you could say it is the language of physics
beefing with my battery
I just had a stroke reading this
Hello ado

Laugh at this cat
BROO.
ARE TOU STUOID??
MATH IS TLITTERALLY THE RULE OF PHYSICS!!!
like,
Man,
Are you fr??
WITHOUT MATH…
without math… PHYSICS COULD NEVER ERIXTS!!!!???😡
But the application of maths in physics is beautiful
(i’ve never done physics in school)
te
I had to choose between biologgy and physics this year. Chose physics.
i really wanna do physics but im in my final year of hs and i’m already doing 4 adv courses :c
i don’t need it for uni either
i’ll definitely do physics modules when i get there though
if ur in engineering u definitely need physics
I see
I wanna do medicine or a double degree of math
i am stuck to study complex unit conversions for numeracy and logic math course
all unit conversions can be broken into converting one unit at a time and then stringing them together
Can someone please answer my help post. Sat math

hello discussion-2
hello
HELLO

hi there! welcome to the mathcord c:
how's everybody doing tonight?
I'm a little tired, but that's about it
Same here. Physics Midterm is coming up and I'm not confident 😅
and I'm working on a couple more now
from multiple different classes?
that’s rough
yeah
my next two sets are already posted
My throat starting hurting at 1 pm yesterday and now it’s 7 pm today and it still hurts💔
are they weekly?
this one’s overdue
get well soon :<
don't forget to drink a lot of water
is there no penalty for that?
But but but the water tastes so grey because of my throat pain 😿 😿
you need to drink water though
i think it’s 10%
I ammm
per 24h
I submitted one of my psets with 2 seconds left yesterday
I made a mistake and forgot to press the actual submit button, even though the file was uploaded already
that would've been a zero if I missed it
that's fine, as long as you're drinking
mrrrr
😨
fwiw, I've been trying to be a lot more responsible with my submissions this year
I'm doing my work much sooner than I did last year
yeah i’m lucky this prof’s grading policies are more lenient
Same
I feel so studious
like a lot more lenient
i’m a first year and i really think my school district did us a huge disservice by making the teachers adhere to really lenient late work policies county wide
that's awesome, keep up the good work
it makes the college transition that much worse
my high school was pretty lenient too
you'll get over it in no time c:
i hope so
i'm lucky that the professor I had for my first semester was lenient like that, i probably wouldn't have done very well otherwise
I crashed and burned pretty hard in my first semester of uni, and I still recovered
you're gonna be okay
my profs weren't too lenient sadly
but it's okay, I'm doing better now, hopefully
time will tell if I actually end up doing better this year
but I'm optimistic
YOU TOO
lowkey sad bcuz every coding position is mostly overtaken by ai, losing jobs slowly.
Thats fine
Vro I was so fried today mb.
Nty
dang
doing a cs + math degree! hbu
...my college is much more lenient about late work than my highschool
what's the source on this?
the most i have seen reported is entry level positions are slowing down, which could have any number of reasons
ig part of this is just annoyance with myself
“i’m supposed to be an adult so i should be able to meet deadlines”
my uni doesn’t give a single shit if you hand it in or not
you can just do 0 work the entire year up until exams and just come in for the exams
Based
literally what i did last year 💀
Who needs to do work?
would any of y'all be interested in attending or speaking at a panel discussion online this week?
wrong server
@edgy zealot man what is up with you mate?
why bring those scientists here?
he didnt ask the history of calculs or some other stuff tbh
but you started off with it
Let’s keep this in the original help channel as per the rules @snow helm .
i wont mate
guys help me

#❓how-to-get-help if u need help w math
Gl mate and take engeneering in future
Jst don't die
Can someone sort of validify that studying throught math books alone with no prior knowledge would teach u math? Like from algebra h&k and Chrystal; My point / question is that if I have no idea what contents actually doing what's it studying in its own terms and stuff like sin cos are functions that work in a cycle ;cool now a better way is that sin and cos are points that move around the unit circle based on angle;then in this scenario basically I don't have the correct prerequisites and the higher level of book I open up I see more and more data to work with in problems
And even if u can it can't be in the span of just a year
And I'm supposing that u either know math like just fuzzwords or just like a person wanting to solidify his math for higher applications and to get a strong grasp at it to be play / model systems quickly without getting stuck at the actual math
if you don't have the correct prerequisites you're wasting your time
that's basically the value teachers, courses, and curriculums provide you
you can definitely study math through books alone with no prior knowledge and learn math. The chances of you scheduling what books, what chapters, finding the right resources, to learn at a rate similar to what you might expect from just being given a structured course is pretty low. You can use something like khan academy or math academy, which structures it for you at a higher level. Or you can get the books (and answer books, you gotta work problems), and follow along with a curriculum which leads up to the requisites you have now.
e.g. look up a school you wish you went to and follow their curricula.
I am in engineering and lowkey loving it
I don't like anime, every anime has a character and a story
powerful stuff
why is math so easy
help im stuck on this question
i gotchu
A nontrivial knot needs at least 6 straight edges (“sticks”).
Intuition/sketch: with ≤5 edges the polygon’s convex hull forces an embedded spanning disk (you can fan-triangulate a 4- or 5-gon without self-intersections), so the curve is isotopic to a flat planar polygon — i.e., the unknot. Hence there are no knotted quadrilaterals or pentagons.
With 6 edges (hexagons) the only nontrivial knot you can realize is the trefoil (and of course the unknot). So hexagons represent: unknot and trefoil.
With 7 edges (heptagons) you can realize the figure-eight knot as well; so heptagons represent: unknot, trefoil, and figure-eight.
seems like ai generated answer
nah
you will get to my level one day
lmk if u need anything else
also what game is that
@ocean harbor
just bc ai is a thing doesn't mean u call math is easy
like come on
roblox
came from my noggin
its natural to be jealous ig
ik but what game
what math books have u read so far
i forgor
ive co published a few
