hey, I love the game Rocksmith, which is like a Guitar Hero with a real guitar

I'm studying ideas for developing a way of detecting not only individual guitar notes, but also guitar chords...

Here is what I have so far:

• I'm able to roughly detect individual notes using YIN algorithm
• I'm trying to detect chords looking at the Fourier transform of what is played and comparing the vector to a target fourier transform (a recording of a D minor)

The chord detection part is the hardest, so I'm looking for ideas before trying machine learning

I really have no expertise at all in that area so I don’t have anything to offer, but I suspect that would be very difficult because of quite how many different way there are to play any chord, especially on guitar. Best of luck though that sounds like a fun project

yep, that's true... for making it less harder, i wanted to match the chord with a specific way of playing it, ignore variations, other positions and so on

i believe rocksmith does something like that... comparing what is being played by the player with a clean recording of what he should be playing, so if the player plays in another octave or something it should detect as wrong

actually I'm mixing two different things:

• match what was played with a target sound
• detect what multiple notes being played

the two solutions are valid but different
