personally, my experience with college studies (and with school in general) is that they hold you back in the beginner classes for too long even if you could go through them much faster

by the time i had been in my music degree for four years, i had already dealt with enough of being held back in basic music theory classes etc., and then when i switched majors to CS, i had to go through the same thing again
