there are two flavors to this question: if you are asking about the math needed to succeed and do well in a typical upper level quantum mechanics course as required by most physics degrees...then no, it doesn't require "rigorous mathematical intuition", just Linear Algebra, ODEs/PDEs, and a little bit of complex integration methods.

However, if you are taking about mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics, then yea, it is some pretty gnarly functional analysis

specifically a lot of theory of unbounded linear operators
