I don't think so. My advisor is inviting me to meetings to get me used to how they go. Kind of like med students observing a doctor diagnosing patients. I thought I'd feel like that, but instead I feel like 3 kids in a trench coat. But maybe that's also how med students feel.

my maths teacher is sending solutions from chatgpt

at this point i've lost all respect for her.

it's especially sad to lose quality instruction because that wastes your time. i hope you learn the material well enough to prove right answers right and wrong answers wrong, lest you lose the material. i hope there's a way to restore unjustly taken points too. i'm sorry you're dealing with that extra challenge. that sounds difficult and discouraging. your teacher's acting weird,
and your feelings in this are valid and normal.

#

isn't there a way to prove text origin? what do teaching licensers do for this?

manic yarrow
manic yarrow
#

and to prove that, well

#

there was a question that said "vectors p and q are perpendicular and the angle between them is obtuse". i was so sure this was just an error, but i was shocked when she didnt agree it was wrong. she didnt even bother trying to discuss it. she just sent chatgpt screenshots. so at this point i just dont even want to argue lol.

when someone doesnt even agree that an angle can't be 90 degrees and obtuse at the same time, there really isnt much you can do to change their mind

I believe the world is divergent, while each individual is convergent. Drawing on the definition of a limit, I see each person essentially existing within a punctured neighborhood, where the various forms of consciousness in their mind converge infinitely toward a unified awareness. The infinite series formed by countless individuals, as it approaches infinite time, is expansive and divergent. In other words, while individuals contract, the entire world is actually in a state of infinite expansion, diverging on a macro level as individuals converge on a micro level.

#

In other words, each person is like an egg. The "egg" exists within a punctured neighborhood, with the eggshell ensuring the unity of consciousness, which you can think of as a constraint. The egg white represents the various forms of consciousness and thoughts within a person, and no matter how many forms of consciousness there are, they ultimately converge toward unity—the yolk.

The Collatz Conjecture is equivalent to -(x2^x^2), reaching to -infinity because 1 can have a zero annexed to it, same for all the others, saying that you can divide, divide, divide, divide, divide, and it'll go so low that it will have so many digits, yet it can still be odd and even at the same time saying that it goes in that direction. Even though this doesn't make sense because this deals with integers, the collatz conjecture can have it's rules amplified to this concept because it can divide to a lower level to an undefined number of digits, temporarily leading to -(x2^x^2).

Why is math such a growth industry or a future proof bachelor degree

#

I keep hearing that

#

Obviously everything in the world uses math but it has for the last like 50 years as well

#

I don’t see how a math degree is benefiting from technology growth more than say electrical engineering or software

I want to take math because I find it easier and more interesting than other uni subjects and because I’m vaguely looking at quant/financial risk as a career

I don’t find math easy, I find it to be easier and more enjoyable compared to say physics/cs subjects

#

Hey! I'm in need of some advice

#

I wanna learn Precalculus on my own. I have completed an intermediate algebra course by myself beforehand. My dilemma is whether I should follow Professor Leonard's Precalc lectures on youtube or Stewart's Precalculus textbook? Or perhaps both?

neat lintel
ivory dragon
neat lintel
#

Textbooks kind of make me figure it out myself and I find that when I learn somthing myself, I tend to not forget it. On the other hand I forget things from lectures

ivory dragon
#

I see. Well I'll try out working primarily off of the textbook first and then use lectures to clarify concepts if needed as you suggested

#

Thanks for clearing it up a bit!

neat lintel
#

In the end, it's whatever way helps you synthesize information best

#

yes textbooks are dry and boring but they really just give you everything to learn and I like it that way

ivory dragon
#

I don't know to be honest. Cuz I have only learnt through lectures and never a textbook

neat lintel
#

Give it a try

#

What kind of pre calc do you want to learn

#

As in to prepare you for calc or just learn whatever else there is that you didn't learn yet

ivory dragon
#

My goal is to learn calc, so yes whatever helps me get there

#

And I really wanna learn trig cuz it severely screwed me over in my high school exams so I wanna have revenge 😂

neat lintel
#

You're in college right now?

ivory dragon
#

Not yet, I'll be starting my undergrad in 2026 after a one year preparatory course in 2025

#

So I just wanna get my fundamentals strong and learn as much as I can on my own before preparatory course starts

neat lintel
ivory dragon
#

Pretty good I will say. I dislike inequalities but other than that I'm quite strong in it

charred ermine
#

I need help 😬

neat lintel
#

Thing is you don't really need pre calc to go into calc

sharp mulch
quasi jettyBOT
neat lintel
#

Pre Calc is usually a review of Alg 2 and just goes through ways you can do things you learned previously in new ways

ivory dragon
#

Ah ok that's good to know

neat lintel
#

So it depends

#

Since you want to take pre calc to just take calc

#

Just start calc

#

I have a textbook I can send give me a moment

charred ermine
#

Can u guys answer this

#

Pls

ivory dragon
neat lintel
#

Send the question

#

@charred ermine

ivory dragon
#

I still wanna do precalc or at least trig so I fill in any gaps in my knowledge but knowing that precalc is similar to alg I won't dedicate too much time to topics if I already know them

neat lintel
ivory dragon
#

lol I thought that was a really popular one

neat lintel
#

Trig equations, unit circle

ivory dragon
#

Yes that'll be really helpful

neat lintel
#

This is also one of my favorite websites for math

ivory dragon
#

I basically don't know any trig. Whatever I had crammed into my brain to get by in high school finals is long evaporated by now

neat lintel
#

You should definitely review trig

#

Basically when you learn calc, you will learn whatever you do and apply it mainly do polynomial functions and ratinal or radical expressions

#

But then you will always apply what you learn to trig too

ivory dragon
#

Gotcha

#

My goal is to get precalc and trig wrapped up by end of this month so I'll focus on that for now

#

My actual high level goal is my degree in information systems engineering

#

Which is kind of a mix of compsci and electronics

#

So I wanna be well prepared for whatever math that degree entails

neat lintel
#

Best of luck

ivory dragon
#

How do people in Discord say about Mathoverflow?
I am a little pissed off today. I used to enjoy reading Mathoverflow so much and today I just posted an problem on academic integrity I encountered during research. I received some good answers actually. Later the moderator found me and said it was irrelevant with purely mathematical questions. Then he deleted it. Fine.
I just didn't agree this problem to be irrelevant but I editted it and reposted. Somehow the moderator is now on me😅 Every time I publish it, he deletes it in one hour. I mean, bro, seriously?😅😅😅
