How many different game states of Mancala are there? Assuming 4 seeds per pod to start

north topaz
#

same

#

I don't know why people hate it so much

#

Streetcar was so much worse

north topaz
#

if you have this board for example, you can use stars and bars

#

there are 14 holes so you can separate them using 13 bars

#

and choosing the positions of the bars determines how many are in each hole

#

so it should be (48 + 13) choose 13

#

,w (48 + 13) choose 13

north topaz
#

maybe not all game states are possible but around this amount

neat lintel
#

So 6.566 trillion is an "upper bound" ? (and it's less than that)

north topaz
#

yeah like if you flip the board 180 degrees, you technically don't have a different game state I guess, so we've double counted and need to divide by 2

depends if you count whose turn it is though

Opinion: Dont get a degree unless it is something that is field specific like actuary sciences or architecture.

#

It has been very difficult to find full time office work with a math degree, I didnt have the best grades or go to the best college, but I still finished with BS. Additionally, nearly every position that I could get starts at a similar pay to unskilled labor; And given that four years of working in nearly any field full time in the US nets you a gain of over 100k, and four year schools often cause more than that, youre realistically looking at a difference of several hundred thousand dollars at the start of your career. Once you factor in safe investments like the SMP 500, the pay is extremely comparable so the only benefit might be job satisfaction or the experience of going to college.

#

Anecdotally, the experience of going to college to work extremely hard and be stressed all the time, just to be stuck applying for positions with mediocre pay in fields like IT and insurance, is really disheartening.

Is it wrong that I got super-schadenfreude from this? I'm not an ideologue so I am not going to call these idiots 'traitors' but at least, in my eyes, when you elevate an adversarial nation in your mind soooo much that you just have to get an admission to a university there, and the government of the country that you love "OH SO MUCH!!!" leaves you to dry like this, and you actually cry as this country supports a GENOCIDE!! I just love this picture of this girl crying sooo much! "Mental distress" uuuuhhh lol. lol lol lol. You deserved it, good girl. You deserved it. Go study in an Iranian university next time. If you need to learn something that the university does not teach, google it.

in fact, learning skills can usually be done without universities

If you say 'experience', that's how I convince myself that I did not waste 9 semesters across 3 majors lol.

tawdry pecan
true zinc
# worthy garden <@528339997854662667> I said you don't have the intellectual capacity because yo...

I have a short temper but if you seriously wish for a proper response:

First of all: Wishing for someone to cry and feel bad for wanting to go to MIT and being accepted to the university, which involves AFAIK a quite difficult process, is just sad. I pity you.

As far as people from poorer countries in general coming to richer ones to go to university, it's simple, many of these countries with stronger economies have better universities, and so more people want to go come for a better education.

As far as Iran is concerned, due to Iran currently being so isolated from the world stage, there's less chance for their universities and education being improved.

As far as the genocide claim is concerned, the government of a nation's actions do not always reflect how students or people who live in a country feel. In this case, the situations in the middle east are extremely contentious but I cannot get into a long-form discussion over it due to the server rules rn.

@true zinc I'm just saying these standards are too Western-centric for a non-Western nation to ever qualify as the 'better' of the categories.

solid snow

i dont even know what the point of debating that is because the terms are descriptive not prescriptive

worthy garden
#

I don't know the linguistics term and I'm still learning philisophical terms from canceades.org

#

But to explain it: These terms are 'dyadic' and not 'monadic' if it makes sense

#

Iran will be a developed nation only if West believes it is one

#

Remember that these indices such as GINI and GDP and what have ya are compiled by Western nations.

#

And they win tremenedously if Iran's image is not that of a 'functional nation'.

#

Remember when they pulled a false flag attack last August

#

Caused riots.

#

The best way Iran can make any progress is to discard West and go be friends with non-western countries.

serene rain
#

that's probably true but unrelated to anything else

#

i reccomend you abandon nationalism and just focus on your own life tbh

solid snow
worthy garden

@serene rain One way Iran is different is that, were I a 'nationalist' I would be on a watchlist by Iran's own government. Islamic Republic hates the Iranian identitity and nationalism, especially pan-Iranism.

Hi hi.

Some of those who have studied biology have heard of feedback loops. Like an example of a positive feed back loop is a mother giving birth. The contractions are driven by hormones which cause the contractions which creates more hormones to intensify the contractions, until the baby is born. But other examples exists.

My question is: what maths studies feedback loops? And is there a lot of research going into this kinds of maths?

#

It’s dynamically systems right? Cuz there are discussions of over damped and under damped systems and critically damped systems, etc.?

Or maybe I have made some pre-assumptions about this topic.

We only did sequences in the Vertiefungskurs

short shard
#

We didn't

vernal token
#

No multivariable ofc

pliant breach
short shard
short shard
#

Tbh I don't think they should teach calc in schools

#

They should do basic proofs

#

And algebra

azure portal
#

Fax

pliant breach
#

agreed

short shard
#

Knowing how to prove something is so much more useful than learning random formulas off by heart where you

  1. don't know where they came from and
  2. you'll forget them within a month
vernal token
pliant breach
#

but i think like axioms of real numbers at least, and epsilon-delta deffinition of sequence limit

vernal token
#

Sometimes we don't write them down, just read it in Lambacher Schweizer (our book)

azure portal
#

Why dont u just remake the school system then 💀

vernal token
short shard
vernal token
#

Why would I care about doxxing my Bundesland lol

short shard
pliant breach
short shard
#

But I still agree

pliant breach
short shard
#

Definitions

vernal token
#

Well you don't need to remember them seperately

#

But still, you need to remember axioms for these algebraic structures

short shard
vernal token
#

You do have to remember some stuff

pliant breach
# short shard Definitions

well, there are not that much of them imho, and they're pretty easy to remember especcialy when you work with them a lot

short shard
vernal token
#

Yep

short shard
#

Well

#

There are some things that are easy to forget

#

Even after using them a lot

#

Homotopy extension property

#

I can't seem to remember that one

pliant breach
vernal token
#

Can't just skip monoids like that kekw

short shard
short shard
pliant breach
short shard
#

Grothendieck completion go brrr

short shard
short shard
short shard
#

This also works for modules/vector spaces

pliant breach
#

i also have no idea what monoids are, in my textbooks groups go first(like breafly in the beginning, they come when group theory is serious)

vernal token
short shard
pliant breach
short shard
#

You form the product M×M and then do an equivalence relation

#

That's how you get Z from N

vernal token
#

Ah

#

So basically you construct a group out of your monoid

pliant breach
#

all elements have inverses. Yeah? What's you source? My source is that i made it the fk up

short shard
#

In other words (a,b) is like a-b

#

And you may say "hey can't I just cancel c on both sides" no because you have no inverses

short shard
short shard
#

And the equivalence is there to ensure that for example 2-3=5-4

short shard
#

This obviously doesn't have inverses

#

So you just add them using grothendieck completion

#

And this group is called K_0(R)

#

Example:

vernal token
#

The name fits

short shard
short shard
short shard
#

Should I say it?

vernal token
#

dimension?

short shard
vernal token
#

yeah makes sense

short shard
#

Because the direct sum just adds the dimension

#

Then the grothendieck completion is just Z

#

Hence for any field K we have K_0(K)=Z

short shard
vernal token
#

yep makes sense

#

So this is what you do in K-theory?

short shard
#

There are other groups such as K_1

#

But I only know a little

short shard
#

Oh and K_0 can also be made into a ring using the tensor product

vernal token
#

sounds cool, why would we want to make it into a ring though

short shard
#

Why not thonk

#

Ring theory is better than group theory

vernal token
#

well let's try making it into a field then sotrue

vernal token
#

field theory is cool too!

short shard
#

Because ideals

#

And more general einstein

vernal token
short shard
vernal token
#

Where you learned it

short shard
#

I got a book

#

Algebraic k theory and its applications

#

By Rosenberg

vernal token
#

Ah

short shard
#

It's a bit weird

vernal token
short shard
#

But like

#

Little things like "it's"

#

Instead of it is

#

Which books don't usually do

#

No but this doesn't sound as wild unless you actually read it

vernal token
short shard
#

I read the first chapter

vernal token
#

Ah

#

How long did it take

short shard
#

Maybe a week

#

But idr

vernal token
#

58 pages in a week?

short shard
#

I don't remember

vernal token
#

Alright

short shard
vernal token
#

No I was just looking at the Springer site

vernal token
short shard
#

I only take notes if something is hard to understand but it was pretty readable

short shard
#

I have the feeling k theory is basically just turning shit into a group

#

Because

#

Dedekind rings are also just rings where the fractional ideals form a group

#

Everything is made into a group

#

Groups are just better

vernal token
#

Opened up 35 years ago

short shard
#

But most cool stuff is very recent

#

Category Theory was only invented in 1945

vernal token
short shard
short shard
#

Which I don't know

#

But

#

It is a homology theory

#

There are topological k groups that satisfy the Eilenberg steenrod axioms

vernal token
#

So you encountered it in a different book basically?

vernal token
#

Alright

short shard
#

Because I had a question relating to that

#

Which was basically about composition of functors and which information we can gain from something just being in the "image" of a functor

#

Every time I ask this dude something he responds with random gibberish I don't understand lol

#

This is my only reason to learn math

#

To understand these people

vernal token
#

You have a personal question-answerer? sotrue

short shard
#

I just know very smart people

vernal token
#

Did you meet them at mathememes?

short shard
#

He's a mathmemes contest winner

vernal token
#

woah

short shard
#

We did a contest a while back in April

vernal token

Must be a really funny guy

But I'm still in contact with him

vernal token

short shard

I can speak German, English, French and Russian

short shard
vernal token

German, English, Hungarian, French, Spanish for me but I think I forgot a lot of French and Spanish

short shard
#

So you chose Spanish as an elective in school?

vernal token
#

Yeah

short shard
#

I think I remember you saying that

vernal token
#

NWT would've been much better

rapid yew
vernal token

Idk why I didn't choose that

short shard

Damn

#

That's crazy bro

rapid yew
short shard
vernal token
#

Everyone in my Vertiefungskurs had IMP

short shard
#

Everything you do there you do in VK

#

Except for some coding and physics

#

But I only care about math

#

@vernal token what music do you listen to

vernal token
#

Uhh

#

I don't really actively listen to music

#

But I like whatever is on Antenne 1

#

Lmao

Beughe

Cringe ngl

vernal token

Imagine not listening to music

vernal token

I listen to music when I'm in the car!!

#

That counts opencry

short shard
#

I literally listen to music the whole day

#

This is not an overexaggeration

#

My earphones are right next to my bed

#

I only take them off to charge them

vernal token
#

You do math while listening to music?

short shard
#

It doesn't bother me

vernal token
#

~~You're sitting in lectures while listening to music? opencry ~~

But I don't listen to music no 😔

And we're from the same state

It's a student's program

We do university classes alongside school

And they count just as normal

Oh OK

In the US there is something similar

It's called dual enrollment I think

I'm in year 12 and keep is in year 11

It's both of our final year

After the summer holidays

It starts later in Germany

I know a bunch of guys that are almost back to school

In turn we probably have more smaller breaks that you don't have at all
