My book made this table
d in mm: 4.0 3.0 2.0 1.0
Q in μC: 4.4 5.7 8.7 17.4
Q * d in 10^-9 Cm: 17.6 17.1 17.4 17.4
And said that through halving we get Q * d = 17.4
I'm not really sure what is meant by halving
Maybe actually the table isn't even for this exercise? They had to show Q * d is constant which they did
"Halving"
So maybe when they say halving they dont use the table
Are you translating it?
Yes. "Mittelung"
Ohoh.
Translations often
give
idk
like
Not the best approach using translations
,w (17.4-4.4)/3
ohoh
I cant think of a more elegant way
I mean
My mind wandered into averages... like function averages
But thats complicated
My teacher said something about linear functions
Lines
,w 2.5*(17.4+8.7+5.7+4.4)/4
Well this function isn't linear atleast
I mean I thought of it
For a linear function, the rate of change is just the slope
Hm.. Halving
Maybe they took the extreme values? (17.6 + 17.1)/2? Though that's 17.35
And maybe rounded to 17.4?
Okay wait
Well theres a way to turn it into a linear function
And that is by introducing capacitance
Well wait
Umh yeah
Doesn't matter lol
but
It's more like saying t
that
Okay lemme actually try it firrs
,w (17.4-4.4)/(1-.25)
Ok but that's not 17.4 lol
Wait what's the round off significant figures rules again
Hol up
yeah well
idk
I mean this is what I could do with linear functions
$(x)\cdot \epsilon_r =\frac{Q}{A\cdot U\cdot \epsilon_0}$ where $x=\frac1d$
Hm, I think they mean something more straightforward..
Let $y=Q$, $x=\frac1d$, $$x\cdot \varepsilon_r=\frac{y}{A\cdot U\cdot\varepsilon_0}$$ $$x\left(A\cdot U\epsilon_0\cdot \epsilon_r\right)=y$$
Okay wait lol
Oh
I found a similar one
So they drew in a line with those values
But where did they get Q = 51 *10^-9 from?
Oh they want you to find the closes fit i think
Thats the line of closest fit or whatever it's called
Its the best linear approximation of those points
Well but how'd you draw that in
Just by feeling?
Because we never had that
I guess yeah just by feeling then
I rather take the average then
But my teacher says this is more elegant..
That seems like a guessable line tbh
Well that's the method used to predict values in many places in statistics
So, its the most real-life like method
Idk about elegance
Ok but this is still not the way my book did it, haven't found that one out yet.
They had this table
And somehow got 17.4
As the average
By "halving"
No clue what method your book used
Ah, maybe ((17.6 + 17.1)/2 + (17.4 + 17.4)/2)/2
?
Lol
,w ((17.6 + 17.1)/2 + (17.4 + 17.4)/2)/2
Ooo so close
Ig you could say 17.4 from that
By the way
since this is physics
Thats just the average lol
Oh you are trying to make it a average by halving
They said "halving" so maybe they still did it like this, lol
But you won't be able to do the halving method you proposed if you had 5 values
And I'm guessing when they use the world "halving" it's some general method
So we should be able to find the average by this "halving" method for 5 values also
true
Again you should go to the physics server and ask someone who knows about experimental physics
Ah wait, nvm
The physics server is a bit dead
Doesn't hurt to ask there though imo
Oh, hellothere is writing
Let's hope he'll answer this one
,w ((3 choose 0)17.6 + (3 choose 1)17.1 + (3 choose 2) 17.4 + (3 choose 3) 17.4)/2^3
Nvm
Ah, though I assume they'd use something more straightforward than binomial coefficients, lol
If there's a statistics discord you should go ask there too xD
I Wonder how springing with life that one would be
Also ask your teacher what halving is
I thought they meant halving as $\frac{\frac{a_0 + a_1}{2} + \frac{a_1 + a_2}{2}}{2} = \frac{a_0 + 2a_1 + a_2}{2^2}$
And you can generalise and show that the coefficients in the numerator correspond to the kth row of Pascal's triangle where k is the power of 2 in the denominator
Actually, I think they just mean taking the average
But that gave us 17.375 no?
"Mittelung", that could mean "mean-value-ing" too
Yeah, well they round to 17.4 maybe
These are just inaccurate measures anyways
hellothere
Yeah, it's probably just the average
Thanks!
I didn't help you though

We all just guessed
But I have no problem in saying no problem
Are you still there?
Yeah, but I'm going in 2 minutes, low battery.
Oh
Ok really quick then lol
If we charge this capacitor
By turning on the switch
Then turn it off
Will anything happen?
Like protons moving off from the capacitor
Can anything even go off from capacitors?
Like can it give off electrons
Or protons
If you connect that charged capacitor to another closed circuit, it will act as a cell
In which direction will anything flow off from it?
From the plate that was charged originally by the current
Or from the other plate
Sent a photo in #chill
My battery is at 1% now, sorry to leave abruptly
Np
Thanks
Afterwards, why does it flow off from the positive plate
And nto from the negative plate
Is there a reason?
@turbid ocean are you still here?
Il be going on a metro and the network there will be crap
Also can't text while walking :(
How do you guys like “reset” after a terrible exam? I really need to be studying for my next 2 coming up but even just thinking about maths is making me pretty miserable after how my exam went today, but I really need to do well in my exams after the weekend to make up for today
Lies if youre in manhattan
you're gonna do bad on plenty of exams in ur life, don't stress too much over one
seems like it matters a lot rn but it's insignificant in the long run
I mean yeah kinda but I also need to average a 2:1 in all my honours classes to be allowed to do the masters course
And it’s just frustrating because I’m so shit at exams and every class at my uni bases their grades at least 80% on the exam. Like today, I opened the exam read through the problems and I felt really happy because I knew what to do for them all, but I fucked up basic algebra so badly that I didn’t even get to do half the stuff, like just to put into context how badly I did here, I got the eigenvectors of a diagonal matrix wrong.
It just pisses me off because I feel helpless, it’s not as though I’m not studying or anything, I understand the material, but it just feels like in every exam I get too stressed and I make so many dumb mistakes on stuff that I know and hemorrhage marks
Like every class I’ve taken at uni I’ve had at least an 80 average in my coursework (which for the UK is very good), I had a class last year where I had a 93 average or something, and I just made so many tiny mistakes in the exam that I only ended up with like a 73 after it all.
And I mean today I’ll be lucky if I even get a B in that class now, I just dont know what else I can reasonably do because it feels like I do this in the majority of my exams
Granted not to the extent I did today (I don’t think I’ll ever get over the eigenvectors thing) but still
You messed up the algebra so you spent a lot of time trying to fix it and not finish the exam?
People make mistakes even the professors too. You shouldn't really be concerned over the algebra errors.
Wrong ping lmao
Sorry whoever I pinged.
idk where to ask this but, isa year of practice enough for AMC qualification? I'm taking fairly high math courses but I want to get better at Olympiad math. would there be enough time to study for the next AMC to qualify for AIME?
I think you still get partial marks for setting up the problem even though you got the algebra wrong.
I'm about to have a terrible exam tomorrow 😭
Thankfully my last of the sem
As far as resetting idk what this says about me but usually the combination of "I fucked up" and "I have an exam coming up" is enough to get me to lock into studying
since if you divide 1 by numbers closer and closer to zero, you get higher numbers, shouldnt anything divided by zero be infinite?
Can be formally proven why it "should not."
Hey can somone help me with math pls
Im guessing it’s your geometry one? I’ve also got geometry on Tuesday lol praying we both have luck with it
But yeah I focused so much on todays exam (and it did pay off I know the course inside out despite how my exam went) and I’ve hardly even started for geometry or my combinatorics and graph theory class so I’m in for a fun weekend
Manifolds ya
😭
I can't wait to be done
Me either I’m so tired, so looking forward to finishing and relaxing for a while
All my friends from physics finished today and went out partying, I went straight back to the library
who needs parties when you have books
I needed a beer after todays exam can’t lie
you have friends that do physics? nowhere near snobbish enough
It’s mathematical physics so it’s ok
Would kill for a brewski rn
after my exam friday I'm getting food with friends for dinner
will definitely get a beer or something
hey in 24 hours it'll all be over
that's my only happiness rn
I hope it goes well, the post exams dinner with friends is always the best
are you not planning to start a reading group?
was I?
the rep theory thing
ehhhhhhhh
if someone wants to run one I'll join
I don't have the bandwidth to coordinate
I see
I’m hoping to take rep theory next year but it’s a semester 1 class with prereqs of group theory and comalg both of with run in semester 1 of the same year
Might ask about taking it along side and doing some extra reading over summer but it’s kinda stupid
the prof teaching graduate rep theory is quite quite awful
so I'm just self studying what I need for this reading / research-ish thing I'm doing next sem
Tom Leinster runs rep theory at my uni so can’t say I’ll have the same issue
Obviously apart from the fact that it’s technically impossible for me to have the prereqs to even take it
That’s a slight issue
another brit !!
genuinely the prof teaching rep theory next sem might be the worst prof in the department
I """took""" algebraic geometry under this guy
(He did last time at least, it’s a topics course so the lecturer changes around a lot)
he taught AG assuming we already knew AG pretty much
he'd come in late, go way over (by like 15-20 minutes)
he'd have no idea what he was going to cover until class started
forget how to do proofs
and then say he'd finish the proof in a later class
and never finish
Yeah that’s really really not good, did you at least manage to self study AG?
fuck no lmao
I'm retaking it in grad school
for sure
but at least I'll have taken commutative algebra so AG will be alot smoother
and I think I can argue getting out of intro algebra courses wherever I go to grad school
I’m actually really looking forward to taking algebraic geometry next year, the 2 lecturers that run it are brilliant
And it’s algebra and geometry, so it has to be good
Well… I’ll know the pain when I get there lol
LOL
I've self studied some AG
from a different book that I've been meaning to look back at
Ideals, Varieties, and Algorithms
I think thats one of the recommended books for my comalg course next year
It's a great text
Is it good? I was considering getting it while the Springer sale is on
Well that answers that lol
Very very very good
Yeah I’m sure that and Reid are the recommended books I’ll probably pick it up then, I read the intro and it seemed a little computational focused so I wasn’t sure
IVA is computational focused yea
So if that's not your thing then better texts exist I'm sure
But I'm a big fan of computation
Yeah i was probably going to grab Reid because IVA seemed pretty computational but honestly if it’s on sale and it’s supposed to be good I’ll probably grab it, suppose it can’t hurt to see a computational perspective as well
lmfao
well it does both!
but
no it doesnt actually do both, it converts geometric problems into algebraic problems and then algebraic problems into topological problems
If you like programming it can be fun to implement some stuff in Sage
but whatever
SageMath my beloved
I’ll let you know, my honours algebra class next semester makes us learn sage
I’ve not heard good things before now lol
Oh what
Sage is fine
It's Python so it's easy
It's not super fast but I doubt you'll be doing anything that required hours of computational time in that course
Yeah I don’t think my friends said it was hard, I think they just found that section of the course to be very dull
Oh
Yea probably
Fun stuff will happen in IVA for example
I'm taking two math courses next sem which have decent computational aspects to it
Planning to implement stuff from class into Sage
You seem like you’ve done your fair share of algebra, do you know anything of non commutative algebra? I’ve never really heard of it used for much but there’s a topics course on it that seems like it could be cool
The course description is vague even for a topics course so it’s hard to work out what it actually involves
I've seen it used in algebraic complexity theory
where you can "amplify" some lower bounds of the complexity of computing certain polynomials by looking at non-commutative polynomials
I can't explain it concisely lmfao
but trust me it's pretty stuff
BROOOOOO
That seems like it could be cool, I really know nothing about algorithms and complexity and that whole area, the very small amount I actually know is from when my graph theory book spoke about PvsNp and NP complete algorithms and stuff when it spoke about the travelling salesman problem
It seems quite interesting though
To be honest I think I’m just going to end up doing the majority of the algebra courses offered at my uni
That's kind of what I've done
There's some cool algebraic connections
So the computational model are circuits
But now your gates are field multiplication or additional
Or scalar multiplication
Instead of and, or, not gates
And your inputs are elements of your field
And so your circuits instead of computing Boolean formulas
They compute polynomials in F[x1, ..., xn]
And so now you can look at a polynomial and ask "what's the smallest size circuit I need to compute that polynomial"
Where size is the number of gates
So like the determinant needs a polynomial size circuit (treat the inputs of a matrix as variables x11, x12, ..., xnn)
But if you remove the alternating (-1)^whatever sign from the definition of the determinant
You get a new polynomial, the permanent
And so while you can find a polynomial sized circuit to compute the determinant
It's conjectured you need an exponentially large circuit to compute the permanent
So there's this algebraic P vs NP
And there's supposedly some cool connections between this, algebraic geometry, and representation theory
This sort of stuff is where I've seen non-commutative rings get used
Yap fest over
idk what meta complexity is
It also deals with circuit complexity
And the same problem that you defined
guys im reading jane austens pride and prejudice
who is talking here???
“Is that his design in settling here?"
"Design! Nonsense, how can you talk so! But it is very likely that he may fall in love with one of them, and therefore you must visit him as soon as he comes."

what does this mean 😭 “But consider your daughters. Only think what an establishment it would be for one of them. Sir William and Lady Lucas are determined to go, merely on that account, for in general, you know, they visit no newcomers. Indeed you must go, for it will be impossible for us to visit him if you do not.”

lol copyright in pride and prejudice?
apple book suck
but its the only way to get free books without going to libgen or smth
i'm sure P&P is on gutenberg
but what does this mean tho
it appears to be fairly obvcious, although i've never read the book so there are some unclear antecedent references that, if resolved, might offer more clarity than what can be divined frmo the text itself
i am also not trained in literary criticism, and so my analytic frame is more likely to focus on what can be concluded about the thoughts and intents of the speaker from the utterances stated. i also lack information about the relation between the speaker and the listener, or whether the speaker is a reliable testimoniant
i see
"think about your daughters- the kind of establishment it'd be for them. sir william & lady lucas are gonna go only for that reason, bc usually they dont visit strangers. yes, you really must go else we won't be able to see him"
i havent read p&p btw i have absolutely no context here
i believe the first speaker is mr. bennet and the one after that is his wife
the whole convo is just alternating between them
$\frac12CV^2 ~ ? ~ Q\mathcal E d$ % @vernal token I tried discussing that with my friend... I'll try figuring that energy thing out... The one regarding
Ms bennet thinks the new rich guy’s moving in to town means that one of her daughters will be able to marry him
In the sense that she feels that he must marry someone
Except she’s being coy about it
So she tells her husband to pay him a visit to get their foot in the door and she knows that her neighbors will be doing the same
Is this 🎵
hahah
Hi. I want to learn trigonometry. I already know a bit. I found this very long youtube video about trigonometry and I was thinking about going through it, writing down all the areas I had trouble with, so I can study them further. Does this sound like a good approach?

HOW
By being inactive
How've been tho
I'm alright

Like a month ago I think
Why?
lmfao
there is a stamp on the fence every 5 meters, the fence is 25 meters long. How many stamps are there?
i said 5
my friend said 6
get some 25 metre fence and find out

yo guys i put my calculator {solar energy} under a bulb for an hour but it didnt charge ?? whyyy
What
both are wrong because a fence has two sides, why would a stamp enthusiast limit themselves to one side?
🤔 🤔 🤔 😱 😭
it can be either
yay you're not late.
Have some castle music for your RPG adventure. "Pavane" by Luis Milan.
Oh you play electric guitar
is 12345679 x 9 a funni thing of base 10 or can you have this in other bases
My gimmick is classical on electric
,calc 12345679 * 9
Result:
1.11111111e+8
My guitar has self destructed. Thankfully I read that gluing the bridge back on is a common repair people do.
,calc x-1=68
The following error occured while calculating:
Error: Invalid left hand side of assignment operator = (char 4)
Yes you can have this in other bases
i might guess it actually happens for every base but i only just verofied it for base 16
111111111111111/F = 123456789ABCDF
Oh and i guess in base 4 as well, 111/3 = 13
and in base 5, 1111/4 = 124
and in base 6, 11111/5 = 1235
base 7 is pushing my powers of 7 knowledge and also mental maths capacity
but also in base 2, 1/1 = 1
and in base 3, 11/2 = 2
So those fit the pattern as well kind of.
@vital epoch Hope this helps 👍
maybe this is not so hard to prove to be true in every base
It is from dividing (1 + n + .. + n^(n-2)) by n - 1.
Oh man
Mine has a crack in the neck but it still sounds great so I'll keep using it
I'm sure I can just go to a Luthier to have the glue joint redone
yes but it depends on how bad is the damage -- if it just snapped off the soundboard it might be an easy repair, if part of the soundboard's gone along with it not so much
been trying to repair this charango the last few days myself
didn't know you did luthier stuff, that's cool
Wow cool
I hadn't heard of that instrument
u a Luthier?
thats such a cool craft tbh
Sounds hard
got into a discussion with wraith the other day though
if ur good u can make a decent living out of it
People have so many hobbies and skills.
How funny that I arrive at just this time
cause guitars are expensive
I have music and math and that's enough to exhaust me
Even the cheap ones
Thats a statement not a question
i found a book on spectral geometry of graphs
I don't know what that means but you said geometry I like
I've reached this very weird, full circle almost kind of thing with GA
i'll probably read more analysis and LA to get into that
Where I don't believe in breaking vectors down in terms of a basis like e_i, yet I always find myself using lists and sets of things to put a _i on anyways
they start with this thing called Schrodinger's operator
not exactly
I'm just used to doing a lot of home repairs on my instruments as well as calibration etc.
So a luthier
i bet the weather is a pain on the wood

turns out some wood glue and good clamps goes very far

Cap
guys my semester is over and i have a month before the next. what do
ask xilinx/amd
Hmm actually jest aside, how is your opinion abt this?
its trash
python is fine for RAD
and then u build the good stuff in something thats actually perfomant
like java/c# and if u care about perfomance cpp
python people are a cult most of the times
working on this has convinced me of it
Based
like
get ur product out in python quickly
get clients
make revenue
thats fine
but dont keep it in python
I would like to restrict it only to prototyping stage, but opinions may differ there
yeah I would agree for that take
Once you get to production, you know
its useful for rad on AI stuff
It is somewhat hard to migrate
but once u built ur product
Yea, AI. Truee
and that product is mature
move it to something good
like people need to understand python is a trash language
u use for getting shit done
How does people end up with this kind of python cult
but that shit is not good software by any means
i blame guido
Is he good at hype
Guido is the benevolnet dictator of the python project
and creator of the language
but u know he could be an asshole like linus
but linux I can respect
because he actually has the technical background
and has debated academics like tanenbaum
and won
guido does not do that
So his position are on the side of convenience
Yea I def get the random guy (not very proficient at programming) vibe
which tbf are ok
its not even proficient at programming thing
Oh???
its idc about hardware but I want to do hw stuff
..is Guido himself like that
Hmmmmm
there should be one and only one way to solve a problem
Ah that one
if u want to abide by this u cant do hardware stuff
Indeed.
period
I mean, Guido is not considering doing hardware himself, or is he
no
but his language is pervasive enough it has come crawling to the embedded space
im looking at u micro python
and adafruit
Yea I think the issue is on the userbase side then
sec
Yea this is beyond stupid, the very structure and design choices of python is nearly antithesis to embedded

python multi threading is slow even if ur doing multithreading and if u have to get down enough to care about this kind of cases dont use python
asyncio has a guarantee that no other tasks run unless await is used. This creates an implicit "critical section" between any two await calls.
Wtf
the joke here
Well am I misunderstanding point of async here? This sounds horribly wrong
is that people think python can scale
ur not
their answer is
do manual thread management
Oh god
in a garbo language
Huh
like
thats literally what their saying
thats the consequence
if u have to await a critical section in a multithreaded program ur going to need to share state
Maybe it's guido guy's overconfidence that is making people try
mainly a lock
there was a major bug in pytorch like 1 year and a half ago
that was making it so AI convolutions leaked memory
but like bad
to the point u could not consistently measure resource utilization
problem was down to the cpython interpreter
Seems like the bug I faced
yeah
my friend placed a PR
got rejected
he ended up making a fork of python and fixing it
and using that
I had some mysterious memory leak that somehow kills the program, IIRC was impossible to debug
Oh.
Now that pytorch is more of an interfacing layer to the underlying library, doesn't this mean.. python sucks so bad at performance that it literally causes problem with boundary usage?
shhh
u dont want to talk about that
it will get its users mad
?????
basically software has a big part of it thats just build stuff that clients dont need
so that software companies can justify their exorbitant revenues
bro I worked for a company thats about to go bust
cause all the clients of that company were past startups from the founder
that just cared about getting user growth
getting their stock up
then selling
Ouch
I wont say names
but one of their clients closed down yesterday
and they removed most of the other clients they had from their website
I heard of making a company and selling it, but did not know they also add in extras to products like that
sometimes they add stuff to the main product
instead of making the baseline product better
making the baseline product better could be making it cheaper in the operations side
for example
thing is
if u have a software product and you need to optimize for perfomance, power consumption for example
u would need people with actual skills
Indeed
wake up chat
rapid development definitely requires skills, if you don’t want to be crushed by the weight of your codebase as it evolves
except you can go too far and spend too much time overarchitecting your code when you have $0 in revenue
but I object to the notion that software engineering not focused on performance optimization doesn’t take skill
here
do u know why guido retired from dropbox?
idk anything about him
basically dropbox switched from python to rust
oh
that’s a wild switch if I ever heard one lol
though rust looks like python if you squint really hard
yeah i mean i guess he had nothing else to do
i bet shitty bloggers on medium are more responsible for that cult than guido
Well I wonder how they come to love python
Maybe just because it is easy enough on the surface?
i love how the porn link got insta deleted

It's gonna be so good
How
i plan on taking my first proof based math class next yr, do you guys know any resources i can use for a better conceptual understanding of calc?

dwai, it'll happen
the light will blockade upon us
Big dark forest energy
Ange and I worked on keeping moores law on life support
Its not looking good...
i can tell ya that much
I did a stat major as a ChemE. Its main effect is that I now know way more statistics than a normal chemE. This is sometimes useful
fun you'll have to answer by yourself, but math is certainly useful/worthwhile for an engineer
what would a minor consist of usually?
ik i have to take calc 1 - differentials already but what else would i have to take
You would have to consult a specific program, as there's probably some variation. But you're probably get a chance to take more rigorous courses in real analysis, algebra, etc. that might be very useful if you go on to grad school (in engineering or otherwise)
In my case, I've found that I quickly found mathematical problems that were not easy to tackle with the math I covered in undergrad, and to understand the right way to tackle those problems, I needed a background in RA/LA and numerical analysis that I didn't have
yeah at the college im choosing to attend it just says 15 credits from any 300, 400, or 500 level course
Then you'll have a lot of freedom. Look at the courses and see if there's anything interesting/useful for what you want to do with your life
A minor is not a gigantic big deal, so the courses and what you'll learn is the important part
It might be useful if you're planning to work in a math intesive sector of mech-e, like CFD or FEA, etc.
left academia years ago and finally got my last bit of work accepted for publication. wild how slow math can move
does anyone here use spotify
i feel like this button is just perpetually broken or something
isn't it supposed to like repeat the song im playing
this is what it should look like if you want it to repeat
ok i'll try that thanks
what is the name of this button btw, so i can look up how its supposed to work
I mean there are literally only three modes
im just trynna listen to baba oriley on repeat yknow
no repeat, repeat playlist, repeat track
oh
ok see im inclined to believe that's how its meant to work
but i swear to god i've tried all 3 like 20 times
to no avail
holy shit

isolate x 🙂
what you do on one side you do on both
x + 10 - 10 = 23 + 56 - 10
x = 23 + 56 - 10
x = 69
- you're not supposed to write out solutions in full for other people. 2. homework help goes in help channels. #❓how-to-get-help

Hi, I am an intermediate graduate student. What courses should I take to eventually gain an understanding of modular forms?
💀
you're saying that cuz you're bad at it aren't you
like come on
but yeah sometimes I hate gd because of map packs levels are shit like this one
Hi
y
don't you already have gravity?
I do
you did it with an acceleration system that use kinematic equations right?
ye
ive added a mousekeyevent
addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter() {
@Override
public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent e) {
handleMouseClick();
}
});
and a handlkeypress
private void handleKeyPress(KeyEvent e) {
if (e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_SPACE && !dead) {
cube.jump();
} else if (e.getKeyCode() == KeyEvent.VK_R && dead) {
resetGame();
}
}
those things makes the cube jump but it doesn't jump yet

do you all prefer your springer textbooks as paperbacks or hardcovers
as pdfs
Yes e-books/pdfs>>>>
Hardcover
i agree
i have ranted about this a few times before
but why paperbacks over hardcovers? i guess paperbacks are lighter?
even if a hardcover is a glorified perfect bound paperback, there at least exists the possibility of opening it flat, at least in the middle pages, after breaking it in
springer hardcovers are cheaper than paperbacks in at least several cases
Next year I’m going to be starting my undergrad, does anyone have any recommendations on what I should do when I enter to try to become competitive for graduate schools
So far, the only method I knew to be successful in a math class is to jump into the homework as soon as humanly possible so that you maximize the time you have to ask questions in office hours.
I also found that reading the textbook often helps since a good textbook might provide good examples
that doesnt answer their question to be competitive for grad school lol
I thought it might help to have a high GPA especially for accelerated masters programs
