A Riemannian metric induces a geodesic distance on the manifold if it is connected, are you familiar with that, too?
I haven’t learned about connections but I’ve heard of them, unless you mean connected in the topological sense
The distance between two points is the infimum of the length of all paths connecting the two points.
Yes
Yeah, that's the geodesic distance.
The length of a path is given in terms of the Riemannian metric.
please tell me that makes sense
Yes I’m following dw
Will have to reread a bit at the end to see the big picture but individually most of your mathspeak makes sense
@storm sage is this English
No I have no idea what you're talking about
So, what you can do using this formulation is compute the geodesic between two shapes (closed planar shapes).
Essentially, interpolating two shapes.
Wait wtf
(in a more sophisticated manner with interesting properties)
How do you do the computation?? Add the two manifolds then compute the geodesic? I forgot the technical term for “add” here but it’s like gluing them together at a certain spot where you take out a ball or wtv
To compute a geodesic, there are two common approaches: path straightening and geodesic shooting.
connected sum
Yes thank you
In the path straightening method, you start with a path (of shapes) connecting the two shapes and minimize the so-called horizontal path energy.
In the geodesic shooting method, you start with a shape and an initial guess (direction / tangent vector at that shape), solve the initial value problem for the geodesic equation until some time T, and adjust the initial condition based on where you end up relative to the target shape until you are close enough to it.
@mint patio I have to go now, but here are some references:
https://arxiv.org/abs/1207.5965
https://arxiv.org/abs/math/0312384
Thank you!!!!
That was so cool
Especially when you got to the kicker
So a shape manifold is the quotient of smooth embeddings from S^1 to R^2 by diffeomorphisms from S^1 to R^2
People also work with smooth immersions instead of embeddings, but you end up with a shape orbifold, not a manifold.
You throw a Riemannian metric on that bad boy, it’s necessarily weak
That generates a geodesic (assuming shape manifold is connected)
You use that geodesic to ‘interpolate’ two shapes (necessarily smooth planar closed shapes ofc since they have to be diffeomorphic to S^1)
Computations of that geodesic are done by path straightening or geodesic shooting
Is that a good high-level overview?
Orbifold?
Thanks Zan <3

@mint patio stsfn means "save that shit for nationals"
originates from fighting games
LOL
"nationals" refers to big tournaments (national tournaments)
the "shit" is like
strong tricks or tactics in the game
stuff even a good player could probably not adapt to on the spot if they've never seen it before
So you’re saying you’ll wait until I get farther into math 😛
i've been counting a lot recently
combinatorics is making its way to my bucket list of things to learn
did u see the combi problem yday that’s equivalent to RH

further credit to Mathematics and Computation by Wigderson
hmmm
I see RH, I read
Excellent reading abilities mister Deltoid
i veeeery vaguely see it. the mobius function pops up in analytic number theory, and the question in the second paragraph looks like an estimation kind of thing (which is a common form of the RH in ANT)
Truly a scholar of the ages
i do not remember the specifics of analytic number theory
ANT (analytic) is abuse big O/small O notations in a nutshell
$$\frac{1}{\zeta(s)} = \sum_{n=1}^\infty \frac{\mu(n)}{n^s}$$

yeah that comes from the Dirichlet convolution

Ram Murty's books are great imo
took a class which followed this book
prof kinda sucked lol
like really sucked
ruined it 4 me
analysts teach a good class challenge
nope
university of toronto
oh classic
this is exactly what a cop would say
LMAO
i will not name the professor but it's probably not hard to find out if you cared
yeah just requires some additional googling skills
we have like two undergrad analysis professors but they’re both really great and best friends to boot
this is 100% cop language
I'm not a cop tho 😭
I quote Maximo
the university of toronto is such a goofy place
This is exactly what a cop would say
"teehee we have so many staff but are still so dysfunctional :3"
I heard so many stuff about it
I feel bad for laughing
it's hard to say good things about it to be honest
UofT is like "lol we have high prestige so we can do whatever the f we can do with the students (including making their life miserable)"
kind of true
a physics teacher in highschool told me that uoft does not care about their undergraduates and i thought she was lying until i got to my last few years
That's why I went to TMU
you can call it ryerson it's okay
yeah but some ppl are you yk
"NO ITS NOT RYERSON"

uoft now caps the number of grad courses an undergrad can take
bahen is an extremely depressing building
UofT is depressing
UWaterloo as well
What's UofT?
Waterloo is a funny name
My uni does smth similar, you have to pay grad tuition if you take over 50% grad courses for some programs or something
i love walking into bahen and seeing the new stuff they put up to ||stop students from killing themselves in the building||
The policy isn't clearly outlined anywhere

Foot fetish galore
So I actually have no idea what the exact policy is
:(
yeah feather
Google the meaning of "loo" just to make it extra funny
i'm not joking
dead serious
like nets…?
last i checked they just completely got rid of the railings and put up huge grey swiss cheese looking walls
UofT would do anything to keep their prestige
Lmao our British Tory government wastes our resources on hiring corrupt workers or inviting their incompetent friends through cronyism, yet they say rhwley can't afford money for their own doctors 😂
Moral exams and ethical exams should be required for all of them
baffling that it took four people killing themselves for uoft to do something about their stupid ass CS program entry requirements
nobody should go here
be well tterra :(
every once in a while i get angry about this
but i graduated now
all i can do is convince people not to go there
unsure
if?
might apply in the upcoming fall
That’ll be exciting
You can't blame the people for electing a former criminal as prime minister i.e . Borris the party should take responsibility for hiring him
okay sorry i said some depressing stuff in chat LOL
LMAO Nah it’s good that you’re passionate about it
my bf's mom works at another university in ontario and she's trying to get me to apply there
I don’t think anyone disagrees with you that it’s fucked
go to uc berkely and say hi to ryc & ange
one day...
they have a lot of people working in things i like
which is a plus
and i might be able to convince her to let me rent a room in her big ass house if i go

that’s a big benefit
All what matters is that you graduated now and the bad days are hopefully over. Yeah, sometimes you will remember these days but whatever. The important thing is that you are still alive : )
Idk why but many people here are crazy into CS
$$$
yeah true
every single person i knew IRL who wanted to go into CS was only doing it for the money
i speak in past tense because only recently have i met CS people who actually did it for the CS
||suspiciously technically-literate furries||
It's kinda the same with people going for med school
Literally all of the dropouts are generally people who are doing it for money
Some still graduated but they still hate their lives
Or law school
idk much about law school tho
https://imgur.com/gallery/dobpHtz is this a legitimate transform in geometric knot theory? Where does one even learn geometric knot theory?
@alpine comet

Also just generally curious if there has been any development of minimum ropelength exact formulas (also GKT) in the past few years. I don't even know how to approach it outside of bruteforce numerical analysis
@neat lintel what subjects?
I will be touching some LA subjects we missed, prepare for an algebraic structures course, do some of the concrete math textbook and maybe if time permits some axiomatic geometry, but probably not.
Also I am hoping to dig at some undergrad level open problems as practice. Probably combinatoric stuff, there's one geometric problem I'm interested in.
it is time for more math studying 💪
once I get this trig stuff down and finish the last 2 questions of this review I'm off to the final level review, level 6, which would place me in Calc 1 if I get above a 60
I looked it over and it doesn't look too bad, just a lot of new stuff I have to learn, so same as I've been doing
good luck
enzis gf
getting used to these trig functions and graphing sin and cosine waves is probably the hardest thing I've done so far. Still not bad, but definitely the hardest. Like a week or two ago I couldn't even subtract or divide fractions so it's kind of an adjustment
I like it though, it's fun and challenging and the first thing I've had to watch videos on instead of just getting some help here and figuring it out
I gotta hurry though if I want to complete level 6 in a week
@hollow jackal dude we need to like
make a clone math discussy
a cranks role
and just herd them there
would be so funny
like watching flat earthers discuss amongst themselves
that’s literally what they are though, conspiracy theorists 😭
just a bunch of people trying to divide by 0
You just reminded me that I had a dream last night where I looked at a graph, figured out that the graph proved you can divide by 0, and then promptly realized I was completely wrong and called myself an idiot lol.
Funny ah dream
what is a reduced residue system modulo p?
do you know what Z/pZ is?
no
uh
in this case its a collection of p-1 numbers that are coprime to p and pairwise not congruent mod p
(assuming p is prime)
yeye
well
i dont understand this proof of the euler's criterion
it said
if g is a primitive root modulo p then the numbers g^i where i = 1,2, ... p - 2 forms a reduced system of residues mod p
not quite true, but ok?
whot
missing a number
p-1/
themathboi
I'm getting really used to these cosine and sine graphs now, it took me a second to realize sine starts at the origin (when C is 0) and cosine starts at the max or min value
I'm onto level 6 but I want to review level 5 after

People pursue careers so they can make money?
that statement wasn't a judgment of such people
i'm sorry if you feel attacked
yes?
unemployment don't pay rent
What was your GPA when you graduated?
why do you care
Just curious
What was it?
3.71
What degree did you get?
The hell is this animal
just a little guy
some fluffy dude
looks like a bear
i did math
mostly pure math
what kind of interview is this
Trying to figure out why you behave the way that you do
Pyschoanalysis? idk
idk if this is psychoanalysis
strange
exactly what behaviour do you have in mind?
maybe
i have a vague mental list of topics i'd be interested in studying further
dg is one but not the only one
... although they all seem to have a common theme
what theme is that
mathematical physics
oh wow
mechanics was one of my favorite courses for example
insert either classical or quantum before mechanics there, they both apply
hm well i was going to ask what kind of scale you wanted to work at
looks like you're fine with anything haha
hm sounds interesting. hope you end up enjoying whatever you do

insane dodge
probably a good thing
Was wondering why you would make assumptions like this then get defensive about it
I'm sorry if you feel attacked
Seemed like projection imo
what assumptions did i make?
The assumption was that anyone was even thinking about that
what exactly did you have in mind when you replied with this?
actually
nah i don't care lol
goodbye
Not what you assumed
i had assumed you were dense with the first couple of replies and the weird interview but now i know it for certain
hope you can find closure
i should have mentioned
quantum includes c* algebra stuff
that's some yummy mathematics
functional analysis in general is kind of whatever to me, but the c* alg stuff in particular tickles my brain
I don't know if this needs to be said, but uh, please don't attempt psychoanalysis on other people without consent and without being a professional
i need to look into c*, and just functional analysis in general
is there a quick rundown on when you see C* in quantum?
Eberhard's Applied Functional analysis book contains this I believe
temperature is a lagrange multiplier
im way out of my league here. i've never done lagrange multipliers nor enough FA
but c* does look more fun that FA
so i'll take your word for it
😭 It's not real "psychoanlysis"
???
Not even speaking as a mod here, just like, informing you that this is a weird thing to do
Online or in real life
You're not entitled to their life details, and if you're driving at something that you want to know then just ask that question
😭 You're assuming I was being serious by saying "psychoanlysis"
The only serious part of that comment was "idk"
I'm saying it's weird
quantum systems have corresponding hilbert spaces. observables are self-adjoint operators
and some more stuff i can't recall with a moment's thought

I got this question that asked to define the set of functions from Z onto itself such that f(2a) + 2f(b) = f(f(a + b)). What branch of mathematics would you guys say this falls under?
functional equations
i don't know if this is exactly a branch of mathematics but that is what these are called
cocat you're a big analysis person. are you in grad school or anything
I'm trying to find good resources for techniques and strategies for solving these types of equations, you got any recommendations?
ngl sounds like some aops stuff
Yeah in grad school
Yeah I know it's a functional equation I'm just trying to figure out what to look for to find like, how to solve problems of this sort
i see. you're just always answering my function sequence questions lol
I have a number theory textbook somewhere that briefly touches on this type of problem I just want like a full book on it if possible
How do I construct a function to describe the curve of an irregular shape?
This is the shape in question
This is the shape in question, obviously whatever I construct won’t be an actual function but you know what I mean
Ignore the vectors
is it a surface with a hole
Yes
do you just need any definition
But fwiw the hole isn’t important for the geometry
you could just parametrize this
So we can ignore it
then just parametrize an oval haha
…how?
It’s not perfectly symmetric about x either, and the thing at the top is a circle
I also need it to meet at a cusp/point at the bottom
use a vector graphics software
I must do it analytically :(
I don't think your sketch is analytic
Not in the analysis way LOL
I don’t know, that’s what I’m trying to construct
Oh
It needs to be symmetric about the y-axis with maximum horizontal distance d from the center point
The height from the cusp to the center of the hole is h
Hm let me say that the profile around the hole isn’t circular, I want it to be ovular so I can change the height
do you have a list of these specs in a picture
Sure
Like that? Ignore the rest of it lol
Oh
The total height cannot exceed the height of the vertical boundaries at the sides of the photo
Huh wait this is just an ellipse you’re right lol
Ahhh only issue is the focus isn’t equidistant from the tips
it'll be an oval then
maybe that's more obvious than i thought lol
but try to find a parametrization for an oval online
Yeah okay, all I get are results for ellipses
yep same here
this could be promising
egg sounds about right
just elongate it
or search for symmetric airfoil
This looks promising!!”
Ah man this is gonna be a pain in the fkn ass lmao
I’ll give it a whirl and see what I get
What do the upside down pm mean?
minus or plus
if they use +- and then -+ it means if one is -, the other is +
and vice versa
But they’re using -+ for both, so would they be the same sign?
should be, yeah
Oh hey Wikipedia has a way easier eqn lmao

Uhh
One thing I’m worried about
My “airfoil” is oriented vertically, theirs horizontally. Would it be fair to just swap x’s and y’s or do I have to solve for x in terms of y e-e
what's wrong with just swapping them
Idk seems fine to me I just don’t want to fuck it up lol
It works! Thank y’all <3
Only issue is it’s the wrong side up
LOL
Fixed
Replace y with -y
surely you can figure out how to flip that
I’m the goat of planar geometry don’t @ me
Hmmm I think I figured out how to do some cool scaling stuff too
I can construct this exactly as I want
This is so cool since I’m trying to use it for actual stuff
Anyone wanna know what I’m doing this for?
Say yes because I have a feeling I’ll encounter problems and I’m gonna not know what to do :D
yes
So
Assuming static equilibrium, I can find the axial force B going through the blue rod
This is what I got
(F is fixed)
Uhhh that’s kinda wrong since that assumed that the line of action of B coincides directly with the center of the hole, so I’ll have to redo it a bit, but just go with it for now
Clearly B depends on the parameters h and d, and I have a feeling once I redo the math it’ll depend on h’ too
I want to minimize B with certain constraints on h, h’, and d
The goal is to find the parameters h, h’, and d such that B is minimized
I think I’ll have to find theta too
Does that sound approachable? I’ll need a CAS for sure
It took me hours to prove a proposition that was given as an exercise
I finally finished it : )
Now I can sleep in peace

Thanks, you too
Do you guys know any game to improve math skills? I wanna be able to calculate really really fast
why
just use a calculator
.
I wanna have it
duolingo math lol
WAIT DOES IT EVEN EXIST
it's trash
Does it exist for android too?
I wish I was able to use it on pc
why do u even want it? The hardest thing on there is for like a 3rd grader
i think its true
I don't want lots of knowledge, I just want to be able to calculate so fast
hmm okay
and duolingo math is terrible for arithmetic imo
it's actually pretty hard to find something good, you're better off trying to find a random website u like
What website?
I wanna see some game like osu about math
Osu requires calculation
osu + math? Wtf
Not as playing
Calculation speed
relate it
Imagine there is a calculation and marks under it
You should press by second in a row
osu + math
It also might be crazily funny
This is the only good website i know https://arithmetic.zetamac.com/
Actually pretty hard with default settings lol
BRO THIS IS SO GOOOD
Thank you bro
It is literally almost as same as what I am looking for, thank you friend @gleaming adder
i know right
Thanks
i have a really basic question
Suppose i and my friends invest 5 mil into my business and form shares in the name of my company and start it
Now i take on a project say make a small building
the money required for this project comes from this 5 mil right?
but then wont my valuation become less than before until and unless the revenue generated from the project makes me a net profit?
think of the building as a long-term investment
in your accounting, you will probably account for this expense over the period of its construction rather than all at once
you will hopefully generate revenues in other ways during that period of time
but then you will eventually start generating revenue from the building
and since it is a long term asset, you should continually make more money
but you should still account for depreciation on the building over this period, which will likely increase over time
but yes your net profits will be lower for a while but it won't be suddenly all at once, more like over an extended period of time you incur these expenses during the construction of the building
gmod change your name to gmeow
okay
i see
also say i want to undertake a bigger project but dont have the capital eyt
so i get a VC for the money
now upon hsi investment my share values rise alot
take out a loan or wait
but this is also a way right
venture capitalist
gmeow for mod
god, joined this discord for help with a problem I'm facing in Factorio of all things, then answered my own damn question lmao
(or, well, realized there was a fundamental flaw in my approach and then realized another easier way to do it, namely with bitflags; now to figure out how to read bitflags from an integer using combinators)
glad that a place like this exists though, the help room system seems really clever and I kinda can't wait to make use of it in the future (really wanna go back to college and pursue an associate's in math at some point)
Welcome!
Hey thanks ^^
idk enough about that sorry
To idly ramble about what I'm doing since nobody's using the channel at this moment and the magic of the proverbial rubber duck is truly a powerful thing:
I'm playing with the Space Exploration mod (and Krastorio 2) and am working on figuring out how best to supply places with material via orbital cannon, and eventually rockets/hopefully spaceships. Using AAI Signal Transmission I can have a shared circuit network (that being a big list of signals wherein a given symbol, such as the one for iron plates or the letter A, has an integer between -2147483647 and 2147483647) with signal transmitters and receivers. They eat a lot of power though so I wanna make the most of them, so I'll use bitflags and assign each surface a given bit. With 31 bits to spare, hopefully I won't run out, at least within the starting system.
The idea is that, with every location having a unique bit, I can just put that bit into the signal for that item - say, iron plates - and assuming I have a cannon somewhere pointed at that surface, it should look for that bit in that signal and start firing once it finds it (cannons can only fire one manually-selected resource, and need to use signals to prevent them from firing if the destination is full, as otherwise their payload will not be caught and Cause Problems)
aaaand figured it out, whoo!
Just had to divide the main signal by the ID I'm looking for, then take the % of that and 2 to get my result

bro you got a 30%
If it's multiple choice
You might have gotten a better score by randomly choosing answers
You must be toast if you got multiple 30s
I'm sure the margin of error for randomly choosing answers is greater than 5%
So I would withdraw
No point in withdrawing
If it's a required class they're going to have to take the class again in the future.
might as well stay and hope you learn something you can use for next time

lol thats quite a range of topics.
Hmm
That would require a month at least to finish

yeah that’s a lot but i already know abt most of the topics just looking for resources to look them through quick

anyway @gray crater It depends on what professional use you wanna do if you wanna pursue carrieer in data science and web dev then do python and javascript and if you wanna pursue a carrier in stuffs that like require math alot do game hacking you'll be doing alot of linear algebra and math stuff. And if you wanna lean application development(mobile) learn dart or some other language like kotlin. For testing and experimenting on application with your teamns you can do DevOPs in which you'll be using languages like Go, and tools like Docker to test out applications.
And I did mention about game hacking but I didn't mention game development. Those are 2 different things. For game dev I'd really recommend you use C# or C++ for those cause they are just perfect for that JOB like 😘 and again you have to know concepts of math too which is great for math lovers so ye. You will also have to know how to use mutliple game engines and how game engines work and tracing of each pixel works, cubemaps.
Mostly you'll learn computer graphics in your courses which will introduce you the topic I was telling you of raytracing.

I m trying to make a cool type of animated clothing website
And i know lil bit of design and frontend so i can cover that
But I dont want to change code everytime to update new product (add, delete)
So i need customized backend , i m not sure which one will do it!
?
make an array of products cast a foreach and then put there your css
why backend?
Amount of video i ve searched and never got answer
like all of the products have same css?
Why not? Like i want to change products name , add photo so i need customized page where i can do that , like database or sthg
Yess , but not all of em
i need to google it 😭
can't you do that via code but again still that works for some reason
can I add you and show it to you?
Its good for me but if ever do job and customer dont know coding and he just wants to add product simply so this aint the right
Yes please
If you want to add a backend, I recommend SQLite for your database, it’s very easy to setup and will teach the fundamentals of sql, which is transferable to heavier duty sql databases like Postgres. But many small businesses have done fine with just SQLite
Fun thou
aight part 2 of asking cute lin alg puns
plz her birthday is in like tmrw and idk what to write in her card 💀
i only kno her from our lin alg class, bro i dont even kno why she invited me 💀
How do you type theta in latex
Fun?
nuh uh, mostly ppl even struggle installing some of its libraries
$\theta$ or $\vartheta$
namington
for future reference, this is easily googled
will probably give you a faster response.
(capital theta is $\Theta$ of course)
namington
Thanks
I didn't know about $\vartheta$
wraithlord_kobordism
That's cool
To me it’s like a curly v with an extra loop, not too bad to write out
Vartheta actually looks nice
Do stuff from scratch more fun lmao
That's why you don't use libraries
“I wanna be orthogonal to you.. or not”
Yea but that one is weird no
“If we were on different planes.. I’d find a basis to you”
Lmao that’s good
That’s so good
Can someone help in #book-recommendations ? Thanks 😀
what're you on?
You can do computer graphics without libraries and you'd do like ray tracing, but its alot easier when there's a library 🤷♂️
Installing vulkan on a mac is pain
what would be the cpp graphics library for simulations and stuff?
Mac is a pain in general
i did the calculations, and i wasted more than a thousand hours in arabic first language classes where i could do little else but zone out
Never seen vartheta before
Look up the other variant greek letters too
$\varalpha$

$\varpi$
Borty
Fucked up
Pluto is not a planet.
Pluto never was a planet.
This is omega: $\omega$\
This is the variant of pi: $\varpi$.
Borty
In other math fonts it looks significantly different. This one isn't great for \varpi.
it is very rare to see anyone use \varpi.
^ this one is more typical
oh with a str8 line in it
Tau is better than pi.
Wait whoa
Because I hate people who have such an emotional attachment to Pluto.
Wow I don't care
?
New FinnBoltz mechanism discovered/unlocked?
I'm not sure why you decided to harass people, but fwiw I just like the pretty picture. I don't get emotionally upset or angry because of planets or non-planets, like you apparently do xox
$\tau$\
makethemfalled
Is better than pi.
Tau is twice pi.
Please don't jump on people because they have a big rock for a profile picture lol
could someone pick a number between 2 and 7 please?
thanks pal!
What was the purpose of this?
jus choosin a number of problems I wanna work out today 🙂
Tau is better.
id like to see yuo calculate the area of a circle with e
lmao
so immature (coming from a 15 yr old)
I'll do it with tau.
Tau is more natural.
bud we've all read the tau manifesto and thats cool and all but you dont need to act like a tau fanboy here
Are you a tau fanboy?
What's that number?
i dont hatass people that use python tho
have you every used the web by any chance?
Yes.
js -> JavaScript
Have you heard of context?
I assumed you meant a number because tau is a number and tau/2 is a number.
who tf names a constant js, js is known to mean javascript
thats like talking about fields of math, and someone comes in chat and says "i love tau" and they ask "what field of math is tau"
obviously tau is the number
Would mathematicians be annoyed to hear that I'm a tauist?
Yes
No
Why?
they will be annoyed
when you force that shit down our throats
idfc if u like tau or not
nobody gives a shit
I do.
It's the most pseud thing to care about. It's akin to complaining that the cover of a book is green when red is a better colour, when everyone is here to talk about the content of the book.
Is the radius or the diameter more intuitive to young children?
both
i dont think you understand
a radius is not just half of the diameter
"Which will young children prefer to see, a red cover or a green cover???"
the definition of a circle is some set of points that are an equal distance (the radius) from some (center) point @neat lintel
do you understand?
now what dumbass
See? The radius is more natural.
the diameter is the distance from any two points opposite to eachother on that circle
Y'all if you're bored with the conversation, then just don't engage with it
No need to continue it
ok
Hello, fellow tauist!
I'm a Taoist.
lol
You sound like a piist when you say the diameter is easier to measure.
why are we dividing into piist and tauist
There is no diameter or radius. Only the Way.
thats so stupid..
Some people like 'eta'.
finnboltz is the type of guy to learn a couple programming languages are seriously fight people over which one is his favorite
cut off friends if they dont like the same constant/language as him
Form is void... void is form... the tau and pi debate is meaningless.... meaningless is the tau and pi debate
'js fanboy'
maybe thats why he has nothing better to do than complain here
yeah but i dont take it that seriously
What is important is inner cultivation.
faker
Meditation free from distractions.
All roads lead to one.
Uhhhh please don't joke about this here
fml
okay sorry
got mugged yet
i wont commit mass terrorism for js
It's okay just don't talk about stuff like that here
Phew
I might have to stay here over night in a BRITISH HOTEL
yeah ur getting mugged lmao
This is very convincing: https://tauday.com/a-parable
But yeah if there's even a 1% chance someone takes you seriously... Won't be a fun time for anyone
remember to lock the door
london
is this what people spend their time doing
i hear @deep mango lost his wallet
im so sorry
Use both, these are literally just names for different but related constants
Did you read it?
The parable is a perfect analogy.
and when i might use it
Use anything you want as long as you define it properly
people who cant handle writing 2pi, my condolences
I like writing 2pi instead of pi
The parable has hilarious puns and can convince even the staunchest of stubborn piists.
Parable more like parabola
I never said you all were.
what the fuck is that supposed to mean
Parable more like pirable
im just warning illum that london aint safe
tauists and piists are both stupid if they restrict themselves to one constant
sotrue
Why would you not?
or course, this may or may not depend on which part of london....
i dont like to be handcuffed down
thats like saying? why use two towels and wash one of them
why not just use one disgusting towel
eh
or maybe
Tau is not disgusting. It is mathematically beautiful.
why use different cars for different terrain?
I use tau for radians, specially when I am working based on my intuition and with a circle
Just easy to think 1/4th of a circle and write tau/4
But that's it really for me and tau
I use pi in trigonometry a lot though
that would work out well huh?
See? Tau is better.
Ridiculous.
We don't talk about the forbidden ones around here
ig tau is useless now eh
i declare my new constant in honor of finnboltz
amu
amu = 2tau = 4pi
:)
the rest are all wrong!
What about pi/2 ?
no more e! no more pi! no more tau!
It should have its own constant
No.
see how ridiculous that is
i thought it was pretty safe
I never said we should define all our constants using tau. I accept e.
maybe compared to nyc
ill make my kids memorize the digits of amu
It doesn't have a cool Greek letter
Can we buy a cool Greek letter for amu ? @solar hawk
amu = 12.5663706144
safe from my wrath :nachoknife:
vartheta
$\vartheta = 12.5663706144$
amukh1 | JS fanboy
lmao
Interesting choice
nah
just read it all
mid
how much out of 10 ?
Don't thines seem ridiculous?
and also in honor of amu i will rename vartheta amu
I agree with this tbh pi/2 is used so often
yes because I'm in a world where we already have years
Its symbol should be the same as pi but with three legs
The Dean is right
stool
\newcommand{\amu}{{\vartheta}}
$\amu$
He's not.
aw
amukh1 | JS fanboy
lmao
You don't put $$ around new command
is grep j linux
\def\amu{\vartheta}
$\amu$
Nidhi
dude i think i was kicked off of my labs server
He is; his argument is essentially that the cost of changing everything to be tau/year is much much much more than its worth , which is true
It's not that difficult. There will be no confusion.
Would it be called pii then ?

is on this server
