Give me an example question
I wanna make sure if its all good
Not a full question
Just to see if i decide right between adding and subtracting
a hard one : -2x -(4+x) = 2x - 6
...it is a hard one-
Uhh
Brackets mean multiplying
the final boss man
..i dunno <:(.
nah you can do it i know
this is only the minus who is multiply to the bracket
the -2x is apart
???
it's -2x + (-1)*(4+x) if you want to write it like this
so you will have -2x -4 -x = 2x-6
Uhhhhhhhh
+6?
-2x -4 -x = 2x-6
+6 +6
-2x 2 - x = 2x
I made a mess but...
yes theres a + missing but np keep going
-2x + 2 - x = 2x
Uhhh
Not sure how do i do 2 - x when i dunno what x is
they don't depend of each others, you can add two for example or simplfy the x terms on the left side
How?
how do they don't depend each other ?
How do we add or simplify
Idk. Its a bit late so im kinda tired. Most i can do is listen and screenshot :3
gotchu
so you can simplify -2x + 2 - x such as x terms combine, you will get -2x -x + 2
and it'll become -3x +2
this is simplifying
and to add you could just substract 2 on both sides of the equation which will give you -3x + 2 -2 = 2x -2
-3x = 2x -2
substract as seen before
-3x -2x = -2
and this is -5x = -2
5x = 2
x = 2/5
-3x 2 - 2????
Or did you mean -3x + 2 - 2?
Ohhh
so if it's all good i think you should try at another moment the others equations to know if you understand the method and if it's not, you can come back for further explain
Alright. Im a bit tired. So ima call it a night. And tomorrow i gotta learn the 2nd and 3rd part. Thanks for the help yaku :3
no problem!

I thought maybe u could be 5x and dv could be arctan(u)dx but it won't even accept that syntax (says it's invalid)
Other than that, I am not sure how you could extract any u-value here
consider k = 1* k
Ok so integration by parts is useless here
no
no, its needed
Why is it needed when we know the integral of arctan
do you?
which identity do you have that's telling you the integral of arctan
yeh, that's not telling you the integral of arctan
that's saying what integral gives arctan, essentially telling you the derivative of arctan
no
Why's that
chain rule and order of operations
the whole (5x) needs to be squared, not just the x
and you'd also need to multiply by the derivative of the inner function 5x
Oh
Wait chain rule is "multiply by derivative of arguments in case of taking derivative of a function"?
The derivative would be 10x^2 so would that make the whole thing
$\frac{10x^2}{1+25x^2}$
Eyesonjune
Oh I think you meant to multiply by the inner function not the derivative of it
right
So it would be
no
$\frac{5x}{1+25x^2}$
multiply by the derivative of the inner function
Eyesonjune
the inner function is 5x
The inner function being 5x
what's the derivative of 5x
yes
This is what I get for looking at the answer before I understand the process

I don't understand this line of the proof
I was about to say [a,x] is compact
but then I realized you were proving Heine borel

basically alpha is your sup
actually, it's the line before that one that's giving me trouble
not the underlined line
do you remember the def of sup
yeah, it's the least upper bound of an ordered set
Since alpha is the least upper bound of A, there is an x in this interval such that x \in A
why?
well what can you say about the interval (-e + alpha, alpha + e)
what would happen if no such x existed
well say no such x existed between (-e + alpha, alpha]
for a fixed epsilon
then - epsilon + alpha is...
I dunno
I feel like it would just have to equal alpha in that case
but that can't be the case
since eps > 0
uhh, idk?
lmfao
so the whole line is A
now suppose that segment (- epsilon + alpha, alpha] doesn't contain any element from A
then what exactly will happen to alpha = sup A
also guys
4 plates soon please send me your thoughts and prayers
wait, I am totally not following this

lift me instead
alpha is a LEAST upper bound
hold on... thinking
,rotate ccw
Couldn't find an attached image in the last 10 messages.
4 plates time gl
smth isn't making sense in my head
alpha is the least upper bound right
so every other upper bound must be larger than alpha
is that clear?
yes
now suppose that there are no elements in A intersect (-e + alpha], this thing is the empty set
is that part ok?
sure
but then -e + alpha is now an upper bound
yes, I agree
since there's nothing to the right of -e + alpha
but smth doesn't make sense to me
we're saying that there's an x in U such that [a,x] is compact; why do we know that x is in U
how do we know that the interval [a,b] is "mostly" compact, at the very least?
"mostly" meaning that most of the interval is definitely compact, since U is just the open set that covers the end
I feel like I'm being extremely stupid rn
that's afterwards though
I agree that [a,x] is compact when we establish that x is in A
so far we haven't shown that [a,x] is compact, all were doing at this point is arguing that alpha is a member of A
(if we can show that, then [a,x] will be closed
oh yes, I misspoke
I should've said that [a,x] can be covered finitely by elements of O
Can you rephrase your question, I'm out of oxygen in brain (I repped 4 plates btw)

damn
uhh
how do I phrase my question in a way that is well put together
lemme see
wait
argh
lemme think some more lol
@wraith stratus nvm I 🔡'd myself
LOL
I get it now
oh but one thing, we are showing that [a,x] is compact, are we not?
yeah
so we're showing that [a,x] is compact, but then we show that alpha is in A, so [a,alpha] is compact
then we show that alpha = b, so [a,b] is compact
yes?
we get that [a, alpha] has a finite subcover since alpha is in A, that's the first part
yes, so [a, alpha] is compact
yea
okay, I think we're good then
This is the next part now
ABCD
no, I've understood the second part lol
this was the only thing blocking me from understanding the proof
today I have shown how bad I am at analysis
donowalled by supremum
HELLO
hi smay

i need help with a math question
I manage to do this everyday
same
what is your doubt maam
smayday!

I am turbo bad at analysis, it seems

this is a topology fact and it’ll be used everywhere so just rember it
I think my Heine-Borel doubt is cleared now though
yeah, I'm aware of its usefulness

why is your name catgirl pee? do you like catgirl pee? or are you trying to convey yourself as pee because you think others want catgirl pee?
i like catgirl pee
I have a big fucking piss fetish
i see
oh it’s a reference to the weierstrauss pee function
m8of48…
ing
no
become a cat instead meow
grief beyond belief
meow
ing was a good name

I would have to change the meaning of the name then
I have a proposition for you
is it one of marriage?
I think... too many people on this server know me by higher! now though...
Get me a fuckin fatty, no vvs hoe shit
LOL my measure theory prof uses it like that
like that’s one of his running jokes
“i’ll proposition you”
i’m workin on it
will my channels become Syrex channels too
hopefully
hrt?
dwai
对?

ok I have a question
is hrt just an umbrella term for any supplemental hormone intake?
oh, that hrt
yea
got it
so if I take test, I'm on hrt?
hell yeah
ig so but then you’ll sound like a fake natty if you say that
you think so lowly of me that'd I claim I'm a natty?
(yes i know some gym bro terminology)
that hurts...
listen i’m just telling ya what it would sound like
@summer dirge so will you accept my proposition?
I'm ugly not natty and I'm proud
i’m ugly and i’m proud
Someone save that shit the next time slayla calls herself hot
same tbh
fuck you
fight me bitch
what proposition
I haven't made it yet do you accept
no
unfortnite

if I can rep 2 plate Romanians, you change your name
if I can't you can choose some punishment for me
pusc
pusc?
lmao
sound it out
what're these abbreviations
am I being made fun of again
I don't get it
wdym
though it is funny how you don’t know the abbreviations
idk, I've never seen these abbreviations before
do you have other mathematics questions
yea
okay you should ask
not immediately, but likely within ~30min lol
ok
ask me anything
emote unrelated
can I ask you anything?
what have i been wondering about lately…
of course
thank you
When you ask for permission to do something, do you say "smay I?" In lieu of "may I?"
i want to learn about the dirichlet hyperbola method
no, but it’s even funnier when i ask “may i” because people sometimes know me as may
can you teach me smay
so it balances out
no, i don’t know enough analysis to teach you that

dirichlet’s got nothin on you though so you’ll probably get through it very smoothly
Update I couldn't rep 2 plate Romanians, daddy broke my back
when you have a bad day, is it a mayday?
since my mountain friend couldn’t choose a punishment for you, smay I choose one?
did the pun just for you
I accept

Smay I know what are your terms are
hey excuse me, I'm just "mountain friend"??
they’re usually first order, i’m just that notable ;)
the one and only!
okay I'm gonna get try to understand the next thm
will come back once I've learnt for the nth time today that I suck at basic analysis
i also want to learn more about generating functions but i don’t have any questions in mind
oooh fun
uh, should I close this channel?
actually no
no of course not
I'll let you guys talk
lol

i don’t have discussion still so this is how i’m getting my dopamine today
jk i’m healthy and go outside occasionally
i’m not
which i can’t say about everyone in the math discord server

lmfao
that’s okay i bottom everyday and am gym health
i rot in my room all day
ain't no way youre bottoming daily
actually i rot on the couch in my living room all day
lmao that’s right, but it’s okay because there was no truth value to the entire thing i said anyways
pusc
okay I immediately have a new question lmfao: in the Theorem, is B a subset of R^m and x an element of R^n, like they were in the preceding comments?
hey, you can't call me out like this...
yes
thank you smay
i do math outside sometimes
the point is that they’re saying something about the {x} times B that’s stronger than compactness
literally the best feeling
is it time for me to go do math at the park?
you could
it's very nice
i do math in a hammock sometimes
all of my outdoors math experiences have been trying to do math on a vehicle (train or bus)
it never worked out
I once took notes for an online lecture whilst walking in the rain though
is that outdoor
I do math isolated alone in my house whilst depressed, it's also nice
this did not work out well
yes, because I said so
well yea i do that too. just also sometimes do the same thing on the porch instead
can't relate
if I'm even a bit depressed, I can't do math at all
i wrote like a third of my senior thesis on a bench under a tree, it was more pleasant than being inside, i think
which is mostly why the last month has been a bit slow for me
that sounds way healthier than how i spent my last semester
oh most of the semester was spent crying indoors, but the bench was nice
oh okay so about the same as me then
hell yeah
sometimes getting lost in something and ignoring all my responsibilities helps and math is that something sometimes
I don't think I could do this
its okay, now i feel much better about a ton of things in my life that i felt awful about during that time
that's good!!
2 am and i haven’t gotten out of bed yet
responsibilities and commitments give me so much procrastination anxiety
the hard part is that math often is the responsibility that I want to ignore
which would completely negate my ability to do math
do you plan to before you sleep?
well i went to bed at like 1 pm and got up at, idk, 10?
so i won’t be sleeping for a while
i’m a very functional person as you can see
honestly, this was me a few weeks ago
that is tough to deal with
what no bf does to a mfer
late at night is when all the
thinking happens
yes, usually
lol
I should open help channels more often, if it's gonna turn into a third discussion channel
I like these
syrex stopped opening channels, so I guess I'll have to do it myself
actually, I'm worried that the mods will crack down sooner or later

Hello, please bare with me and try to make it as explainable as possible
is this the correct way to decide how to write inequalities?
how do i know if it’s 0 > x and x > 0 or if it’s 0 < x < 0
0<x<0 makes no sense
ignore the zeros i’m saying
how do i know if it’s a > x and b < x or if it is a < x < b
i also have to draw this table which i don’t completely understand
Somehow, I think the table makes it worse
what do you mean
i feel like it’s necessary as well but my teacher said i have to write it in the exam and i literally can’t find a single piece of evidence that it even existed before she talked about it
I think using a table makes this infinitely worse to understand
i’m not finding any youtube videos, im asking and no one knows and here i am on discord and yet people still don’t know
i knowww
I don't think such a method exists????
but i have to use it
me neither i’m convinced she literally made it on the spot and it’s not even in the book
I don't get the table either?????
do you have a solution for this tho like is there a trick
The problem is that Im not even sure what the problem is
But if I had to guess
Uh
Lemme relabel
Bc using x in two places is confusing
fair enough
If I had to guess
x<a OR x>b
where
Wdym where?
I'm guessing that your teacher is asking for the values of x where y is positive
And the table is a really weird way of showing where y is positive and negative
oh
Everything to the left of a is positive (for y)
OR
Everything to the right of b is also positive (for y)
Thus, x<a OR b<x
so we can’t use this trick?
ignore the table for now bc i know how to draw it based off my answers but i’m not sure how to write the inequalities
I assume the open circles are saying something is an open set
But I don't know which end is which, so I guess???
like the inequality answers
I have
NO IDEA
what's happening here
let me try to find an example
something like this
This may be a sign to go to sleep
😭😭😭😭😭 i stayed up until 12am last night tryna undersrand now it’s 11am and i still don’t understand
No sorry
I mean for me
It's 4 AM
ohhh
if you need to go to bed that’s totally fine dw i’ll ask someone else
yeah ik cuz it’s 2 answers
Are you only dealing with quadratics?
i don’t think so.. i’m still confused if it was quadratic or normal
Those are both quadratics
ah yeah
Essentially, it wants you to state the x values for which the inequality is true
Since for the first one, you've set it to be when the quadratic is positive
That means it's for when the line is above the x axis
but both quadratics are positive it’s just that the first inequality is > and the second is <
The second is asking where the quadratic is negative
In the second one, the colored area is below the axis
In the first, it's above the axis
wait so long story short, if the inequality has > then it’s x < a and x > b and then if the inequality has < we just leave the sign as it is and make it a < x < b
what if it’s negative? do we do the opposite? so if it’s negative and has > then it’s a < x < b and if it’s negative and has < then it’s x < a and x > b???
Yep
also wdym when u say quadratic, like if the coefficient has a square root?
ah so anything in that form is quadratic right

What will I do here? I tried to integrate the expression inside and found 4. But the answer is not 4. Can someone make a solution on a piece of paper and post a photo?
@fluid niche Has your question been resolved?
how are you getting 4
you're not integrating correctly
How am I going to integrate?
integration by parts
"integration by parts"
all three words together is the technique that should be applied here
I have no idea about that Subject. Is there any other solution?
not that i can think of

Hello
Can I do it jere
yes
Just post it
I kind of have some work to do now, so I can't, but someone will be able to
post it and we ll be able to help
doesnt matter
alr
Yes
well whats 1/4 of 200
well its 1/4*200 so 200/4 so 50
I just do 200 divided by the bottom fraction?
Numerator
To find it?
That makes a lot more sense
Let me try that on the next question there gonna be a dif one in a couple minutes dif formula to solve
Now this one different
@broken charm
WJAT
My teacher is stupid for not teaching me this way
I’m 100 percent gonna pass with the new method
nice
How?
yes.
@fleet owl Has your question been resolved?
Need help with one more
That’s all
I was doing the hw
But I need it with one more
@broken charm @empty cedar
ok so you need to make a circle graph based on the data
Yes
!status
What step are you on?
1. I don't know where to begin.
2. I have begun but got stuck midway.
3. I got an answer but I was told that it's wrong.
4. I got an answer and would like my work checked.
5. I have a question about someone else's work/solution.
6. I have completed the problem and don't need help anymore. Thank you.
7. None of the above
ok what is your status then
ok what have you done
ok so 200 is the total
When I started dividing 54/200 to find the correct percent to put on the graph
Then it start giving me decimals
But
There no decmails on the graph
Circle
multiply the decimals by 100
thats the percent
100/100 = 1 = 100%
50/100 = 0.5 = 50%
example
No
It was yes or nah lol
Thanks btw
Saved me on that one
I’m done

any idea why b is 800pi instead of 1000pi?
as frequency = 1/p and we know frequency is 500, p should be 1/500. After that we use the equation to find b, 2pi/b=1/500. rearrange and its 1000 pi

I don't know if I'm correct
I have a calculator exam tomorrow I plan on studying until early darlylight
,rotate
I know is when there is lines on the first triangle as you can see the two lines I know that the two angles are equal to 25
A triangle is 180 degrees
25+25 = 50 and [180-50] 130
A straight line is 180
why did you say circle is 360
But we didn't use it here, did we?
No
I write things to recall them because I forget formulas easily
Sorry 😔
My teacher left me when I needed her the most for tomorrow
As if I feel like I'm not prepared
but you're there
Thank you 👍
This is a question I'm gonna solve it once I do I'll send my answer to you sir please verify if it is correct

Hiiii so I wanted to ask if anyone could explain me how does this exercice work (badly translated by me):
We consider this figure and the angles alpha (60°) and beta (45°) are given. Determine the angle ABC.
I apologise for uhh all the weird process on the sheet and like yeah the theme of the chapter is vectors, so I guess we must use like magnitude and some vectors rules maybe to find it. However I'm completely lost in all of this.
Please thank you very much if you manage to help me, it really triggers me not to be able to find out one exercise. Btw sorry for my bad english 💀
oh forgot to add but i'm in first year of high school!
for the level

hello
i need some clarification in complex numbers
No need to ask “Can I ask…?” or “Does anyone know about…?”—it’s faster for everyone if you just ask your question! See https://dontasktoask.com/
SWR
bruh not that XD
$i = \sqrt{-1}$
w
Bro
ask away
ik this
yeah go ahead and lay it on us (watch it be some residue-theorem pilled question that I forgot completely)
well in an exercise they said, we have m a complex number, with m in C - R
What is IR?
so does that mean that m is a pure imaginary number
I think they meant iR, i times by real R
real numbers group or idk what is it in english, i study maths in french
no i meant real R here*
$i \mathbb{R}$
lgkoo
anyways does that mean m is in iR
bruh the edit XD
no
just to clear things up
all good lol
bcs its in C - R
$\bC\setminus \bR$?
what?
SWR
Yes
4 + 3i isn't purely imaginary, but it's in C \ R
c without r
so is that equivalent to iR, pure imaginary numbers with "i" with them
no
"complex numbers that are also not real numbers" is different from "pure imaginary numbers"
ok ok so thats mean that im isnt a real number then
4+3i, as playtpus shared earlier
kkk so if we multiply m with i, it wont turn into a real number, like i x i
purely imaginary numbers are inside C \ R, the reverse is false
in general it won't yes
alright thanks for clarification
i have a national exam in a week
so i have to get ready
gl
only if m happens to also be pure imaginary
thx u too its my last year in school and before university
hmmmm yea ik if m in iR then i x m is in R
anyways thx for help have a nice day or night

uh
uh
yeah post your question here
hi
if i feel like
wut
if you feel like doing so?
so
that solely depends
on
are you the one whos gonna help?
people volunteering
^
can
What step are you on?
AX, do u know the equation of that
no
essentially u need to find the equation of the line AX
and the equation of the circle
but howw
u can find AX using the fact that it passes through the point 16,0
sorry its AB not AX, i read it wrong
then see at what value of the circles radius it would be tangent to it
aka they should meet at exactly one point
then once u have the equation of the circle u should be easily able to find p
bye bye
thank you
the above by esthesia works, but it might be easier to find the radius r of the circle by simply using trig here
#help-46 go there
um is the top length 16 cm or what
sorry
im confused, um is the top length 16 cm
AB is 16 units (not necessarily cm, could be mm, m, km, but doesn't matter)
ok uh do i use y = mx + c for equation of line of tangent
sorry, that and the 30 degrees
? @torpid dirge
i guess yea
oh ok
in this case u have
y=m(x-16)
where m is um
idk draw a triangle and figure it out probs
@flat spoke do you want to try doing it with trig instead?
no i got it
i like drawing
nice
thaaaaaanks

Hey, I am working on the following problem. I think I have the solution but, I am not sure if it is correct. There are two things specifically that I am not sure about. (Note: I am self learning this topic)
(1) I am not sure if I defined the first premise correctly. According to Chegg, the first premise I defined is (nor r or not f) -> (s and l). But, this would imply that if it rained and it's not foggy, the sailing race and lifesaying demonstration will happen. But, that seems incorrect.
(2) I am not sure if I can do the simplification in step 5. In the YT video from Kiberly Brehm and the textbook, they only simplify when the statement is standing alone. I am not sure if it is legal to simplify when it it's in if then clause.
Any help is appreciated!

You can ignore the vectors (in this case) and just look at the right side, how many dimensions does a plane have vs a line?
What step are you on?
1. I don't know where to begin.
2. I have begun but got stuck midway.
3. I got an answer but I was told that it's wrong.
4. I got an answer and would like my work checked.
5. I have a question about someone else's work/solution.
6. I have completed the problem and don't need help anymore. Thank you.
7. None of the above
3 for plaine
2 for line
but i used that logic and it didnt work
So a plane exists in 3d space, but it is a 2d object
Similarly a line is a 1d object
