thats not the main reason tho
ye i didnt see that mb
Given a simple graph of 99 vertices so that for any 49 vertices, there exists a vertex connecting to all of them. Prove that there exists at least a vertex of degree 98
my calculations were about the same
Orginal question: In a tournament of 98 competitors and each pair of competitors only play each other at most one. After some matches, for any 49 competititors, there's a competitor who has played all of them. Prove that there's at least one person who played everyone else
Uhm... What?
Wait i think a proof of contradiction can work
If there are no degrees of vertex 98 then the graph has the most edges when 1 vertex is degree 96 and the rest are degree 97
In which case the number of edges is 4801 (i think?)
Then idk
guys look!
W
problem of doom and despair
the answer is a b d e f
it looks trivial, like a imo p1/4 but its written by lucifer himself
hello
Where’s this problem from?
geometry bounty hunt
greek letters tbh kinda pmo
ANANT GEO JUMPSCARE
you kinda pmo
nuh uh
where can i practice comepetitive math
wdym @knotty egret
Anyone make AIME
AoPS
I did
me
AMC 10 or 12
10
Which amc
10b
Nice
Oh
I took A but we dont talk about my score
12
But I’ve made aime past 2 years
I got 40.5 💀
lo
Oh hell nah
like 5 times now
so u made it in 8th grade too?
yeah
your cracked
are u a junior then?
so u made it in 6th grade?
since 5th
is 10 too easy for u or smth
i mean im not particularly great at amc10
but i can get high 130s and up consistently
bro isnt that like really really good
doesnt that get boring tho if you dont find anything new
who says im not finding anything new
didnt say u werent
yeah well
but like does amc 10 feel boring to u then
you dont just prepare for amcs each year
amcs are not the best of tests yeah
do u do math research or smth
but i still try and maximize my score
no lol
anyone have a guess if more boys cheated than girls?
i mean
given that there are a lot more boys than girls
i think the answer is obvious
have u made usajmo yet
ya
that's really impressive, did you ever make JMO?
so now we're blind
ya
did you get anything?
scrwed up on aime twice the next two years after that
barely hm
oh ok
Is it easier to get aime by doing 10 or 12? Like if u want to try to qualify in grade 9
10
Yall seen the AIME cutoffs yet?
they insane for this year
10a : 105
10b : 99
12a : 96
12b : 100.5
why so low?
WDYMMMMMMMMMMMM
this years was fairly high for how hard the test was
uhhh it was fairly easy???
well the 10a was easier
but the b was way harder
a lot of people were speculating 93-96 as a cutoff for the b
do amc10
i did b tho
actually? oh that sounds honestly more fair
Yea
I think it’s just a lot of students cheated on this test
Which brought up the cutoff
BROOO THATS NOT FAIR!!! howd they even GET those 😭😭😭
EXACTLY
It’s not fair for the ones who actually tried 😭
IKRRR
i wont lie
the test was fairly easy this year
friend of mine took his first amc this year made aime
mind you he did have like good grades in math at school but still
the only stuff needed to make aime atp is like
make sure you know common ideas
and dont silly
also i think the main difference is like the topics on 10 and 12
12 has some stuff that 10 doesnt
huh.
lets use basic common sense
🥀
well recently its been usually 12 since a higher percentage get in
but this year was um
interesting

yeah lol I made 10b but I agree 10a was way too high
much much MUCh easier
@tawny vector admits orz
isn't that one just holder?
The common solution is Holder, yes
try aops?
but like r u sure?
i don't see why contradiction would help here
very sus
lol
yo i just finished this
I was really, really hoping to learn 2^93, but alas, not this time
2^93 is… (hold up leme do the math on my paper)
we'll get em nxext time
i feel like theres a fasty way to do this
using binary exponentiation
2^93 = 9,903,520,314,283,042,199,192,993,792
im not learning that
its really easy
you turn 93 into its binary
and you just find 2^1, 2^2, 2^4, 2^8, 2^16, 2^32, 2^64
which are pretty easy cause you square each time
what i do is keep multipling the number by 2
Welp, now I’ll have to live with the dream of 2^100 🙂
Yeah ur waiting
You need an iPad or just google docs
But my best love is 2^314159265
im on ipad
I got google docs tho
if it is better on google docs
Very very sure
It was an elegant proof too
I think they let x=\sqrt{a^2+8bc},...
Something along those lines
So you just type it instead of writing it
Guys
How can I solve this without wasting a lot of time
Do I just convert all of them to a decimal and then add them up?
Or simplify
do this by simplifying first
but like thats how division works so yeah
Ok
💀
time to memorize this trust 💀
4+2.5+0.04=6.54
Sameee
2^1434
Wait I thought u were doing the amc 10
Yea, ive been doing both for years, but ts is my last year for amc8
Oh okok
What do u think you’ll get on it?
amc8? I think 25, cuz i was 1 off last year
Damn
That’s good
Wait
R u Asian?
yea... 😭😭😭
r u???
Yea I can tell lol
YUHHH
:DD
R u Chinese?
yep, wbu?
哇塞,你也会?
只会一点 😭
Combinatorics yt shorts brainrot before gta 6 💔
yes gl
LMFAO
It’s a valid question
i seen ts 5 times now
ts not meth
hello guys
hi
page two is commencing
...
why
what?
did you do this in your head?
wait that actually looks kind of fun i might try that
This looks fun I remember doing it for factorials
For those who want, this is a fun question in the 2026 Catalan Mathematical Olympiads (yes it's because of the Spanish Olympiads being in 2026)
- Prove that, if $\alpha , \beta , \gamma \in (0,\pi /2)$ are angles of a triangle, the following inequality holds:
$\frac{1}{\cos \alpha}+\frac{1}{\cos \beta}+\frac{1}{\cos \gamma} \geq 3\sqrt{3}{\tan \alpha + \tan \beta + \tan \gamma}$
oh wait
Comrade Wahamba
The fact that I forgot to make a new line, so the h and the 1 are so close is mildly infuriating
Wait you didn't include the determine if equality ever holds line XD
Anyway that looks hard 🥶
I found it and I wanted to share
A solution of IMO2001 P2 by contradiction:
,tex
Let $x=\frac{a}{\sqrt{a^2+8bc}}, y=\frac{b}{\sqrt{b^2+8ca}}, z=\frac{c}{\sqrt{c^2+8ab}}$ then $0<x,y,z<1$ and $\frac{bc}{a^2}=\frac{1-x^2}{8x^2}, \frac{ca}{b^2}=\frac{1-y^2}{8y^2}, \frac{ab}{c^2}=\frac{1-z^2}{8z^2}$\
thus $8^3x^2y^2z^2=(1-x^2)(1-y^2)(1-z^2)$\
Assume $x+y+z<1$ then:\
$1-x^2>(x+y+z)^2-x^2=(y+z)(2x+y+z)\
1-y^2>(x+y+z)^2-y^2=(z+x)(x+2y+z)\
1-z^2>(x+y+z)^2-z^2=(x+y)(x+y+2z)\
\Rightarrow 8^3x^2y^2z^2>(x+y)(y+z)(z+x)(2x+y+z)(x+2y+z)(x+y+2z)\geq8xyz.8^2xyz=8^3x^2y^2z^2$\
Which is a contradiction. QED

I feel a little incompetent after looking at this stuff
bruh...
guys it's hard for me to remember the formula for agp
arithmetico geometric progression
lol crazy
i guess this is what you come up with when you treat standard ineqs as non-standard
this is insanity
huh that's cute
Deduce it when you need to use it
Are there any big olympiad winners or medalists in the channel? I am currently training for the upcoming olympiad and I’m looking for advice on how to solve problems to reaching a competitive winning level I have a few specific questions
I would really appreciate
what questions
just in general, the way for approaching the problem
I want to learn how to solve, not just answers
you should try the problem for long enough, giving up only when you think you've tried everything you could think of. When you fail a problem you should read the solution(s) and understand the motivation behind them, or learn the theory if they use something you didn't know
I don't know if there's any particularly enlightening advice on how to solve problems, you basically need to do a lot of practice and you'll slowly build the intuition to solve harder problems
k, thnx
just a curious question, have U won the olympiad if so what olympiad?
I have an imo silver
(I was having lunch but now I'm back)
I don't know your level, if you're just starting out I suggest trying past papers from your country's Olympiad first rounds, and start learning through reading the solutions to the problems you didn't get. It's important not to feel discouraged when you fail a problem, because it's an opportunity to improve. I knew some people who were happier when they failed problems than when they solved them, because they could get to learn new insights from the ones they didn't solve
once youre confident with the basic stuff (if you're not already) it's mostly a grind. I think the "problem of the day" thing in the mods server (linked in the description of this channel) is really good
99% of the problems I did were potds from mods, or problems from egmo (the book) or mont
thnx bro
thats cap bru
I've seen this too over a million times of yt of different streamers... the answer is 18 by the way (I hope)
anyone here know abt mit primes results and if they already came out
actually its not (i think)
this problem was so bad
it took me so long to finish it
like this is why they dont drop ineq in IMO anymore
anyone help me with some prpe material for my college fest kshitij math olympiad competition prize 50000 sponsor Jane street
Barrero inequality
hey does anyone have a good idea where to start learning nt and combo for amc 10? i have some aops books but it’s mostly stuff i already know
how do I get good at geo
I stare at problems for 2 hours and have no progress
or insignificant progress
try d1s
icmc round 1 p2 best geo ever!!!
I didn’t like that
took me 30 minutes since I made an algebraic mistake
its because you tried to bash
bash is bad
you can't make algebraic mistakes in synth 😋
I’ve added angles wrongly before 😢
对的
egmo is good if you have some prep
Just curious, does anyone know how to transition to solving Olympiad level problems? I’ll be done with AOPS volume 2 and the first three chapters of ACPS by Paul Zeitz fairly soon. Should I just start grinding Olympiad problems when I’m done, or are there some more problem solving books u guys would recommend?
me
Find practice mock tests and find ur average and wut u fumble on ig???
Thanks

Otis
arent you on an imo team
aops vol 2 is extremely dated
its content/problems are not quite up to snuff with modern contests
Helllo I’m new please say full name of book thanks

Euclidean geometry in maths olympiads
what class are you. in
on second thought a beautiful journey through olympiad geometry would be better for geometryy
Idk I’m from Singapore secondary 1
uh im not sure what level that is, how many years left for college
Idek I’m 13 tho
ah, don't do egmo rn
i guess this is better fr you, but ideally you should find a teacher
Hmm I did do a little bit of math Olympiad when I was In primary school
Secondary school should be high school
Primary sch shld be elementary sch ig
find someone to teach you that is always better
Idh teacher
any competitve exams coaching has maths oly stuff?
I don’t have coaching
😭
what im saying is find a trusted source to teach you its better than just wandering aimlessly
sasmo?
are you going for sasmo, and whatever the imo stuff in singapore is?
My trusted source is school
They don’t teach Olympiad stuff tho,
talk with your parents, tell them if you want to learn oly
i can't really help you find a source in your country
Yes most people do it by themselves
yes but i think people need some level of guidance
theres many books that teach comp. math and are great resources
Yes bro I dh teacher that’s why I came here for guidance / resources
I have skill issue though
@radiant jasper teach me geo
does anybody have liberal arts for math thingy? and any free pdf textbook and yt video for it suggest because im willing want to see
Hey guys I'm 10th grader.
Ask me some maths questions
$$\left(e^{ix}-e^{-ix}\right)\left(e^{3ix}-e^{-3ix}\right)\prod_{k=\left{2,4,5,6,7,8\right}}^{ }\left(e^{kix}+e^{-kix}\right)$$

Start with this very simple problem
||#1373058521138073722 message my reaction to burger's sol||
write those factors in terms of sin and cos
no, I want the constant term when it's expanded in terms of exponentials
which seems to be some sort of combinatorics stuff
oh in terms of exponentials
that sounds rough
so if we want the exponent to zero out
then we gotta find the number of ways to make 18 with four of {1,...,8} and account for signs attached
something like that hmm
well it should come out to -2 i think
idk how to get to that though
how did you get 18
1+…+8=36
half that is 18
each term of the expanded product you pick the sign of the exponent to be either + or -
so for that exponent to zero out you need the positive ones to sum to +18 and the negatives to sum to -18
Hey ....this year i m going to prepare for my ioqm ( indian olympiad for qualifiers mathematics ) so im a complete begginer does anyone willing to teach me ...math for olympiad

is that ur cat?
Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!
so cute!
is it too late to start math
yea if u weren’t headsolving china tst p6 before you said ur first words then it’s time to wrap it up
get ready to learn chinese buddy
yo im also in otis bro

Does anyone with Olympiad experience know how much theory is actually required at olympiads? From what I understand, Olympiads should only require some pretty basic results (AM-GM, Cauchy-Schwarz) but be used in creative ways, but as I’m reading worked out solutions to problems and various training camp handouts I’m seeing tons of ridiculous theorems and concepts ive never heard of (Muirhead’s inequality, Karamata’s, Majorization, Miquel Points, barycentric coordinates, etc.) and some of them just explicitly use linear algebra/calculus in their solutions (in Yufei Zhao’s handouts and Evan Chen’s worked out solutions). Are these techniques just helpful, or some of them things that you actually need for olympiads?
Basically what asking is how much theory does one actually need to know to tackle a majority of Olympiad problems
everyone is 💔
my friend started with d units 💀
you need
you can do them but they take effort

Hello is here anyone online
No need to ask “Can I ask…?” or “Does anyone know about…?”—it’s faster for everyone if you just ask your question!
I will drop soem set of my country mos . Can u check its level like it is usamo level or very lower than usamo or higher than it . I want to compete i know about math like amc 12 and mid aime .
Problem 1
Find all functions f: R R such that f(x+y) ≤ f(x)+f(y), f(x) ≤
Source
Problem 2
If n is not divisible by 5, prove that we can divide angle into 5 equal parts using compass and ruler.
Source
Problem 3
Imagine 2021 boxes in a row and a hidden bird inside one of them. We want to hunt the bird with a shotgun such that we can shot at any of the boxes in each step. But as we shot the bird goes into the left or right neighbour box of where it was before (if exists) because of shot sound. Prove that we can hunt the bird with less than 5000 shots.
Source
Problem 4
A simple curve lies inside a circle such that it bisects the area of circle and it connects two arbitrary points of the circle. Prove that the length of the curve is more than or equal to the diameter of the circle.
Can u che«k these two set
Muirhead, majorization, uvw are only variation in inequality, actually you just need Cs, am gm, weighted am gm, and engel
bary, trig, coordinate bash, vector are optional too, in some cases they can instakill a problem. But euclid is just fine
things like miquel, spism, inversion, dumpty point are pretty useful when you are in a higher level
Problem 2 makes an assumption about n and then asks for a conclusion where n doesn't even appear?
i think the angle should be π/n
<@&268886789983436800>
um... what is in this competion-math?
lowk miquel and inversion are probably required too
Alr thx, I’ll keep that in mind
A LOT lower than usamo
Usamo is essentially imo level sometimes
Depending on which country, and what level, it varies
If ur competing at like usamo/tstst/tst level it does require quite a lot of background knowledge
The things u mentioned are the very fundamental basics
that's actually one of the easier ones
the property tan alpha + tan beta + tan gamma = tan alpha * tan beta * tan gamma holds for alpha + beta + gamma = 180
so it's really just an AM-GM
took me two fucking hours to solve it and i find it so fucking obvious
i did another approach tho
not really by AM-GM but by doing a more straightforward inequality
by 1/cos alpha = a and so on
so $a+b+c=3\sqrt[3]{a\sin \alpha + b\sin \beta + c\sin \gamma}$
Comrade Wahamba
knowing $sin(x)\leq 1$ always
Comrade Wahamba
we only have to prove $(a+b+c)^3\geq 27(a+b+c)$ for $a+b+c\geq 6$
Comrade Wahamba
the 6 coming from the a+b+c of an equilateral triangle
and because $216\geq 162$ the inequality holds trivially, and we never have equality
Comrade Wahamba

Im here to inform you all that geo has been banned

Where can I find a compilation of all IMO special prize solutions?
Imo archive
Can you please provide the link? I couldn't find that
Are special prize problems different from normal imo problems then I don't know i guess
Same problems but the solutions better than the intended ones by the orgnaizers get special prize
woah are you
slightly intelligent femboy
:3
Maybe... ;3
hmmmmmmmm
ye
indeed
Theyre practically non existent now
The last one give was like 20 years ago
i think the line gets drawn somewhere around linear algebra and calculus
but if youre talking olympiad olympiad then i think that like
there is some theory that is very nice to just know because it makes some problems a lot easier
/gives you more possible solution paths to go down
Olympiads should only require some pretty basic results (AM-GM, Cauchy-Schwarz)
i think this is roughly supposed to be true - i.e. olympiad problems are written around being "pure" or something
but the thing is that like
sometimes theory just makes a problem easier
do you guys have any resources to help me get better at amc aime usamo anf imo type questions cuz i try to find stuff but the stuff doesn’t really help me for sum reason
mr orz femboy

sadly no orz emoji in this server
this server has skill issue

the fact that you took it from phods 💀

How to get better in competitive math type problem solving
I am a 2nd year msc math student who sucks at competition math and I would love to improve to atlesst be able to solve national level problems like say the Iran TST or the USAMO or the easier Putnam problems
What should I do
solve problems
doom scroll aops

become a math wikipedia editor
xd why do you have 66 things on your wishlist
i’m tryna do the same
i’m a freshman in hs tho
if only he had one more
I already do that
But tell me something more, some specific guidance
There are many duplicates
I just saved the cool ones

Hi! Im in 9th grade and I wanna prepare for the IOQM, any idea on where I should get started?
Same
Do all chapters of ncert till 12th except calculus and then follow a normal textbook like pj or vos module. You can watch lectures on pw for ioqm but I just did problems and learned theory along the way
hello!
is anyone here from the uk?
@lethal gyro give the hsbcse olympiads for practise
What is vos, pj, pw
@lethal gyro Evan Chen and AOPS have exhaustive lists of recommendations for books and handous
Try to do the recommended books by hbcse
I think you should try vedantu or prashant Jain's ioqm book first.
ioqm pyqs and rmo+ books should do
egmo by evan chen
arthur engel
100 sum series by titu andreescu
for the last two iterations (2024 and 2025) ioqm was relatively easier
2 markers can be done with basic math knowledge
id suggest preparing for RMO and INMO as well
Ok! Thank you so much!
wlcm
Arthur engel
Nope, don't even touch that. Solve AMC problems directly
That book is definately not for beginners
I mean those are especially designed for ioqm and rmo exam with previous year papers and questions
Ic
Thing is
Im not very familiar with number theory and stuff
And everyone has different suggestions
So Im feeling a bit confused
You can look for PDFs of the books or like samples of the suggested books.
well u gotta start somewhere. Don't think too much just pick a book and start it
And choose one you are comfortable with
I picked one pdf on nt
I'd say Thrills and challenges of pre college mathematics is pretty good as it teaches everything from scratch
But it doesn't have problems from ioqm or from their format
It focuses more on proof that questions
Oh
And its exercises are unsolved. So it can get pretty annoying
Previous year questions
And similar exams
Also there's a lot of material online, you can look into them too.
when I started divisiblity today it was pretty confusing
Np
You should probably start with GCD and LCM, then congruences
Ok!
Huh
Burton number theory
Then ring theor
Most of that book is for university students
Ioqm is a high school level exam.
it aint
but if theres something i learnt
i directly started with rmo stuff
and just ioqm amc pyqs
it helped me a lot tbh
and theres no way you can prep for rmo and inmo in 2 and 4 months
it requires a lot of time
But if you start with rmo and inmo prep first. You won't be able to prepare ioqm properly due to different formats (one subjective, I e objective). Plus it's gonna get annoying real quick. Rmo and Inmo aren't easy
what matters is that you grasp the approach
i kinda disagree tbh
TCPCM is a decent book it has basic problems too and some hards ones too
For someone who just started preparing for Olympiads it isn't difficult?
I mean you should start with basics and ioqm problems and after that switch to remove and inmo
Rmo*
this years rmo was generous towards them
p1 didnt even require oly knowledg
e
Fr??
Idk then
tho i didnt qual cus my brain wasnt able to work properly cus exam pressure

another thing is that these should not be treated as just an exam
you should have fun finding approaches
solving
getting methods
it makes this journey fun
Is it really very hard to prep for ioqm ?
once you start prep
you cant return back
its a major breakthrough
the reason people dont qual is cus they unintentionally train their mind to think that these exams are very tough

yooo guys how i start comp math
bye bye perfect square year
you were cool
ig
It might seem hard at first. But once you start figuring stuff out it becomes fun
Hi! Im in Year 11 and I wanna prepare for the British mathematical olympiad does anyone know where or how I should get started?
egmo by evan chen
arthur engel
100 sum series by titu andreescu
AOPS and Evan Chens Blog have lists and advice
Arthur Engel's book is not something you should start with
true
rushil mathur combi will be cool for starters
OH
I FORGOT
(for RMO INMO)
Wdym forgot? Also you were the one recommending it to people
its a cool combi book
Please do not recommend stuff you have not used/do not know about.
i have done arthur engel
wdym
its a cool combi book
geo alg/nt other books are better sources
It is a book catered to general problem solving techniques, not combinatorics specifically.
there was colouring proofs, invariance and stuff
which i mostly did
from arthur engel
didnt touch other subjects in that book cus there are other books
hi
Yo if I’m tryna do math comps which ones other than amc could I do
Also how do I study for them other than js prev tests
if ur in canada then the waterloo contests are a good option. Theyre easier than amc, and easier to achieve a good mark with
local comps
are you in high school?
college comps too
In hs in USA
hi, am looking to try and get into math competiitions this year am still in year 11. How many marks do you think i should be getting in the smc to actually have a chance in getting a high mark in the bmo in 2 years
Sup dawgs
Start by ukmt problems or AMC aime then solve books then do ez isl
Join mods BTW it would help
i found that am getting around like 100+ consistently but idek if thats good or not tbh
smc in like 90 minutes
What's smc
senior maths challange
How much JEE is relevant to those who want to pursue fundamental sciences after 12th?
gys me got 99 on amc10b do u think I can get 1+ on aime
why do yall think chat gpt sucks at solving complex math problems
its just bad at comprehending the problem
if it actually knew what to do
it could be ok
apparently chatgpt got a gold on the imo last year
😭
i remember tryna use it on my math hw and got back some bs\
anyways i js heard back from harvard
we love universite
Universite of da hood
dyk if waterloo contests are open to people in the us
they are, but u mostly get enroll by ur school
what if your school doesnt have it
and when do they take place
thats the problem
Pascal is February, gauss for elementary is in may. Cismc alr past fryer and the others r in april
I only about the g8 and 9 ones tho
i’m a freshman in hs so i thibk thats uh
pascal
I suppose, its harder than pascal which is around amc10
is it harder than euclid
yo have you taken amc
by any chance
have u
amc10?
yeah
yo how😭✌️
i got a 60 it was horrible
howd you stidy for it
i’ve never done comp math it was my first time so i had no idea what i was doing
mock tests
how long did you stidy for it
not long
how many hrs each day
what math are you taking
math math
like... math schools?
wait are you in the us
im in canada
oh makes sense
do yall not read profiles
nope
dam
are you a freshman or spohmore or what
oh
i think you take the amc8
i am
10 is for gr9-10
for fun
suree
i’m tryna see if my school lets me take waterloo comps
no i moved to the us frlm canada
i’m like decent
i need to know ap ohysics 1 and 2 for the comp tjo
i know none of that so i gotta learn all of that
dam
bro how do you have this much homeowkr in 7th gr
i had maybe 30 min of hw in 7th gr
that’s crazy you ecen get to do comps
when i was in canada for 7 and 8 i never got to di comps
i wanna get on the IMO team in like 2 years
my school never did any or told us abt any
where did u live in canada
i think like mississauga
if u dont mind saying
close to therw
theres lotsa good math places in ontario
is physics like ur main thing tho
