As someone who is about to take the bmo1 tomorrow and does not know much about non British maths Olympiads, the main topics are geometry, algebra, number theory and combinatorics, of those i would say geometry is the best one to prepare for as the questions are most similar from year to year, my main advice would be to be very aware that cyclic quadrilaterals can appear anywhere so be on your guard
