The change of day and night is one of the game elements that can create a key impression of the game and the picture that the player sees. Sounds, light, fog, particles, etc. make the experience unique. During the day, you explore the world, fight, go to caves, build huge bases....
But when it comes to night, we just skip it. Question. Why? I think it's because night time gameplay is no different than daytime, but has a darkness to it that disturbs you. In The Forest, because the player could basically not want to sleep, we had to do our routine at night sometimes. But what if we made night adventures more unique than just the simple walk from a tarp to the bed?

Below will be my speculations on how to make the sotf night experience more unique

"Midnight Hunters" - nightmares from the depths.
From nightfall to sunrise, the Night Hunters will emerge from the caves. Essentially, these are the same blue mutants that were from "The Forest", but will have a few differences in behavior and strength. For example, we can imagine that the hunters will chase the player until they are killed, will have more health, strong and fast, may have unique attacks that their regular versions will not have. Blue versions may have unique elements in their design, for example - the dull glow that we can see in current puffy's.
"Megaarmsy" - the apex predator (not to be mistaken with Apex)
Remember back from the very first trailer, we were terrified of a mutant with a huge arm? When I first played SOTF, I was really looking forward to it and afraid of the night because I thought it must be very tough. At the moment, this mutant has been completely forgotten which is a big loss. I think megaarmsy might have been a great mini-boss during night exploration. For example, with its huge arm it could fell trees or try to get the player literally through the window of his house.
"Grimshrooms" - as an example of a goal for night exploration
Purple bioluminescent mushrooms that will sometimes grow on corpses in caves and late at night. The player will be able to collect them and use them in cooking, which will give a buff to the improved vision of enemies in the dark. (you can use the hunter potion from Terraria as a basis)
