Google is justified in doing this

the main issue is the fact that groovy made money off of the services

which pretty much takes most of the legal wiggle-room out of it.

"I see so many people saying "google bad" They're not bad. Groovy fundamentally broke copyright law by making a streaming service that made money off of music without providing appropriate funding. It's not wrong to shut them down, because if google didn't, it would be eventually a lawsuit in googles direction instead for allowing copyright violation."

I think where you are confused is YouTube c&d basically told us to stop using their api citing we violated our tos agreement with them. They never told us we had to shut down groovy. The issue arises where most of our traffic was using YouTube's servers so its as simple as without YouTube there would be a scuffed version of groovy that isnt worth running

We can't just switch to SoundCloud or Spotify for multiple reasons, first Spotify doesn't allow us to play direct audio, we just get information from Spotify and played it on YouTube, and second SoundCloud will most likely send a C&D later down the line. We at Groovy have decided shutting down is the best option at this time.

TL;DR: YouTube counted for roughly 98% of Groovy's streams, we just can't function properly without it so we have decided to shut down.

@untold void thank you for everything that you've done.. I remember that Groovy was the first bot alongside MEE6 (which I don't like rn) that I ever added to my first server back in 2018/2019. I also remember how I used the bot in my Christmas server to stream 24/7 Christmas music and it was a lot of fun. Thank you for keeping the bot alive for so long, and despite it's sad fate, I wish you a lot more success in your life, and hopefully, there will once be a solution to the YouTube problem so popular bots like Groovy can come back and show those corporate teddy bears what stuff really works like.
