When I start this code the bot does come online but when I say hello it doesn't respond and when I changed it to a print response it never responded either (obviously not in the physical discord server on the printing one)

Lines number 7 to 12 need to be one level of indentation deeper

Your on_message definition is outside the Client class definition

Also make sure to enable message_content on the developer portal on top of enabling it in code

I suggest you dont watch a tutorial. I have not seen a youtube tutorial that is good yet. This one included by the looks of it.
