How can I detect that the subprocess executed in this way:

  with subprocess.Popen(cmd, stdout=subprocess.PIPE) as p:
    for line in iter(p.stdout.readline, b''):
      # Do things

has exited with a return code != 0? (i.e. p.returncode)

The Popen class has some useful fields like returncode

so you can check p.returncode

you might want to have stderr=subprocess.PIPE in your call to subprocess.Popen as well and then check if you got something in your p.stdout as well as p.stderr to know if you got any output at all when getting a p.returncode that isn't 0 (success)
