You can add this to your settings.json vscode file

    "editor.rulers": [
        80,
    ],

In short

  1. Ctrl + Shift + P to open the command palette
  2. Type Open User Settings and select Preferences: Open User Settings (JSON)
  3. Add "editor.rulers": [80] and save
#

(you could also add this to your workspace-level settings.json file instead, to only add the vertical line to your current project rather than any project)

Ah, you're in the settings I guess.
There is a search bar at the very top, you can type rulers and you'll see this:
