It's been a while since I programmed in Python, but I could I swore you can make arrays in a similar manner as bellow...

Did I get the syntax wrong?

That is valid except you are missing square brackets [... for i in ...]

numpy.array(object, dtype=None, *, copy=True, order='K', subok=False, ndmin=0, like=None)```
Create an array.

I'm pretty sure range x_axis is invalid syntax as well

if x_axis is already a numpy array, then just doing this is probably better:
y_data = x_axis * 5

#

if you use a loop over a numpy array, you probably can find a better way to do it without the loop
