Remember to:

  • Ask your Python question, not if you can ask or if there's an expert who can help.
  • Show a code sample as text (rather than a screenshot) and the error message, if you've got one.
  • Explain what you expect to happen and what actually happens.

:warning: Do not pip install anything that isn't related to your question, especially if asked to over DMs.

yeah it's possible, is this a school assignment/project?

smoky lake

i was thinking of submitting this for a competition

#

for an innovative idea

Speed limiter
A speed limiter is a governor used to limit the top speed of a vehicle. For some classes of vehicles and in some jurisdictions they are a statutory requirement

Speed limit
Speed limits on road traffic, as used in most countries, set the legal maximum speed at which vehicles may travel on a given stretch of road. Speed limits

livid cradle

these are sometimes done mechanically, but yes, there are electronic versions as well

smoky lake
#

and the information to be recorded in a data base

hardy bane
livid cradle
#

there are speeding cameras that kinda do this, but it sounds like you want to record the speed of vehicles from inside one of them

smoky lake
#

i was thinking of useing a gps chip

no, but it could theoretically have a small rolling buffer for detection, and a larger one for logging infringement

isn't there already good technology for this by just combining gps and accelerometer data?

#

computer vision seems like a questionable solution wrt accuracy

smoky lake
#

i forgor about dat

pure portal
#

though be aware that accelerometer data is going to be very noisy

smoky lake
#

what you mean by noisy?

pure portal
#

random-looking inaccuracy in measurements

smoky lake
#

oh

#

i mean i just need a super small model where car go like 2 meter

#

ill also be useing a toy car

pure portal
#

that would make gps more questionable

#

small distances, bad resolution

smoky lake
#

i need to be able to see which side of the road the car is on

livid cradle
#

also questionable how well gps is for the full-scale version. i have a gps that can down to about an inch, but it's expensive. my phone is accurate to maybe 1-3 metres or so

smoky lake
#

i assumed since it worked in google maps it would work for me

pure portal
#

(there is also this nifty thing called a tachometer)

smoky lake
pure portal
#

i.e. the exact kind of thing that cars already do

smoky lake
#

but would that alter the car's design too much?

livid cradle
#

the sorta trick that a tachometer brings is that a wheel axle's rotation speed is not necessarily linked to the wheel's speed over ground, but you could probably ignore hydroplaning and slipping on ice, which removes most of that problem

pure portal
smoky lake
livid cradle
#

true, but a tachometer may read a slipping car as standing still

smoky lake
#

since even if that car is sliping it wouldn't go faster then 40 miles per hour

livid cradle
#

or if it is, the driver has much bigger problems than speeding, yes

smoky lake
#

well ig ima tell my teacher that its possible to make a working prototype

about how much would it cost?

livid cradle
#

it depends on the specifics, but probably less than $50 USD. possibly around $20

smoky lake
#

ima close now
