i was just wondering what i could do to get better at these, i have learnt a fair chunk considering i started yesterday but these make coding for me nearly impossible

If is a straight up test. If/elif/… is a choice amongst alternatives, in a priority order if that’s relevant. Else is for anything not chosen

Sure, it'sviable, but if you try to do it, you'll probably run into problems at some point. That's because it's important to understand the function of elif. It's basically saying "ok, if the condition above me wasn't true, and this condition is true, do that"
