How do I create a custom extension? And how do I read it using Python?

  print(file.read())

# Throws "test.mix" is not in directory but the files are in good condition

What's wrong with this code and how do I fix it?

Extensions are basically arbitrary. Nothing special is required to simply open a file with an odd extension.

Like the other guy said, what is the full error with traceback?
