I want it to print whatever the target is when a + b = target. the target is 9. nothing happens, not even an error message when i run it

You need to assign to result in the while loop.

Also, this

if result == target:
    break

is not needed. The loop tests for this anyway.

Change this

while result != target:
    make_sum()

to this

while result != target:
    result = make_sum()

You have a while loop that uses "result" and "target" in its definition. One of those needs to change otherwise the loop will never terminate. (Although that not the only thing needed.) That is why you got no output; your code was stuck in an infinite loop.
