You'll pretty much use modules when you need them. For example, If you need to perform a web request, you likely wouldn't want to write the socket logic yourself. That's where a module can become useful.

how do i know which module is required ?
is there any doc. ?

If you need to use a module, they will usually come up when searching for "how to do x" and most popular modules will have documentation.
