I want to create and host a portfolio website that also allows me to run my own code on there instead of my PC (Discord bots). Could I get some advice for hosting plans, providers, etc? I am kinda lost on what to do first.

You need a VPS. There are tons of them like AWS , GCP , vultr, linode, digitalocean , and so on

hosting plans vary from platform to platform , so you will need to visit their site and find out

lots of them have free plans for starting out (ex - GCP gives you full blown 300$ smth budget to spend in 3 months)

you will want to get some basic familiarity with linux if you plan to do self hosting

not just looking for discord bot hosting. looking to create an actual website that can host bots

yeah , you can host anything on those VPS platforms
discord bot is just an example

host your website , host your API , host your media, host whatever you would want , its upto you

would hosting a website on a vps be exactly the same as just hosting a website? im seeing things like wordpress, emails, etc on the website hosting but not vps
