Hello, I'm new to this discord server. I'm curious about these voice chat rooms. What are happens in these voice chat rooms? Are they for study groups?
@vestal sedge π
hey
It varies. The 0 and 1 rooms are general topic discussion. We talk about Python and about not Python. The code help channel is more for assistance discussions with code, etc, generally Python, but I don't think it matters too much. The Live-Coding channel is more for streaming coding, specifically.

I'm new as I mentioned to this server. I'm a React and TypeScript engineer. I learned basic Python several years ago as one of my first programming languages, but only recently have I started relearning Python because I'm wanting to go to graduate school in data science.

Hash is a dish consisting of chopped meat, potatoes, and fried onions. The name is derived from French hacher, meaning 'to chop'.
Canned corned beef hash became especially popular in countries such as Britain and France during and after the Second World War as rationing limited the availability of fresh meat.

In my experience, working with SQL is a bit like TDD: it works if you already know all of the requirements and have the entire application already mapped out before you start coding. Otherwise, you end up in cognitive overhead hell.
I prefer databases that are as close to object persistence as possible for that exact reason.
It's also why 99.999% of my unit tests are regression tests.
should you architect your db and program before coding it ... yes
You should architect it if you know what it's going to be in advance, which in my experience only really happens in enterprise settings.
It's like writing the docs before writing the API. It looks great on paper, but in practice is just invites overhead.
requirements change, sure. you can still plan things out roughly. if you have to add a table and other relationships, that's not all that hard after the db has been made
I'm working on a pantry manager. I have no idea what the final backend will look like, but I do know a little. I do have architecture for what I do know, but I cannot architect for what I do not.
Yeah, I'm not saying spend hours and hours making a system design document for something that is going to change, but you can make a class diagram and an ERD fairly quickly
I will probably use SQL or DuckDB for analytics if I have need for it, but for the most part I'm just comparing dict-like objects to each other. That works better with object persistence than flattening into tables.
what did conda do wrong?
funny enough i used to assume that something is wrong with my system lol

just changing the version in the project file (Cargo.toml) and running tagit tag (no other arguments)

@bleak helm
hi guys
been learning python on and off for about 2 years so I figured I'd come in and listen to technical things for fun
ethical hacking is dope, cool bio cyber
lol
kinda reminds me of the "don't speak another language in this server" rule even if there's only people saying nice things in other languages; if there's not speakers of offensive security who can verify whether or not the offensive security topic is ethical, it does make it harder to moderate
does suck because offensive security is cool but I can understand wanting to not be responsible for other people potentially getting themselves into trouble
I feel that lol, it is hard to find active tech discords
I'm here as a third party observer with no judgement or cohesion towards rules nor against rules
hello guys
hi melon
rules in voice chats are specifically really awkward to police because they're much more personal/private spaces, so respect to your handling of the discussion here Lemonyte
#community-meta for suggestions
hello babu
that's pretty funny lemon lol
I like the idea that code here is safe more often than not, especially since learning from methods that aren't property-destroying mistakes can be healthier. but obviously it's important to understand where you can't catch every case where something is potentially dangerous, since stuff like deleting files is actually an important programming skill even if it's potentially dangerous lol
π₯΄
oh yeah, data analytics uses web scrapers all the time
isn't this problem kinda evaded just by not sending tools in public chats or to people you don't know well too? like does the rule affect that much?

also somewhat of a topic change but that must be a bit awkward to discuss defensive security if offensive security is totally a not-discussable topic, so does that context just matter too if you're talking about offensive security in the context of defensive security?
ahh ok
that's cool then
hahaha
specifically non-specific
I gotta head to bed but it was fun listening, good night people

hello
virt-manager
where did @mild flume go?
hello
I forgot that WhatsApp is real
Hey
Well I'm having a productive day
I have just learned that "goblincore" is a thing
Write an essay about it π

Anyway, I'm going to go get on with some actual work, cya
π
it's the one that Ice Nine Kills did stuff for?
U talking to me? π
I donno what your saying if you talk to me
it was a rhetorical question
(I know the answer and expect anyone who mentions that movie to know it too)
The movie i sent?
Terrifier?
specifically part 3
Exactly it's the best horror of the last 10 years
well then you should know who did the music for it
The metal band?
Metalhead spotted? π
@crude mica there already exists such thing
several even
The Nextcloud App Store - Upload your apps and install new apps onto your Nextcloud

!stream 177410068843593729
β @crude mica can now stream until <t:1751888510:f>.
is it kivy md or other library ?
@verbal cargo Please stop.
No you don't.
trolling?
is @umbral rose here
Yes... And you joining/leaving constantly is really annoying/disruptive for people.
joining a vc is not against the rules right
Doing it to troll is
hello
Been busy with work so I've had to pivot my focus to there
@umbral rose just to note, we do have a role you can add manually (which you can do now as admin) to prevent someone from joining entirely. Also I'm proud to call you my successor.
Just needed to say that
<@&900372360866185296>
That's the role
na
I was wondering about that today. Thanks! I have very large shoes to fill but I will do my best! I'd love to chat with you 1-on-1 to get some helpful advice on the role
bro i have not open my mic and video or share screen yet who else will struggle to get this role and after that will definitly not breaking rules
It's just for people that are spam joining/leaving
Absolutely and the shoes aren't as large as you think. You already draw a crowd and people like being around you. You're a stellar representative of the server and our culture. I wouldn't have recommended you for the role if I didn't think you were qualified
he is the nice person i have ever met as always cooperate in conversations
meanwhile I'm being actively useless π
(the time estimate remains as claimed earlier for now)
You're not useless. Never have been. Okay, back to work. I love all of you. Keep being amazing
You are missed!
I agree, you are not useless at all and very helpful to people on the server.
Thanks
Maybe with the new voice lead I'll be allowed back into vc
Hemlock banned me for talking about rust during office hours
Yeahhhhhno
Maybe if you let me properly infract you instead of your cheatsy-doodle database stuff I'll consider it
easy fix: infract the other Chris
infraction by proxy
DROP TRIGGER ...
@hallow anchor
don't you dare
that trigger took literal minutes to write
Oh okay
@rustic iris I just don't really think when coding usually
so I don't get that
normally
for thinking I do need to be alone
often
not always
talking sometimes helps with solving too
Ahhh I see
keeping context small
I usually have to figure everything out as I go so thatβs probably part of the problem
I always have a separate ipynb next to my python file just for checking if my code will do what Iβm asking it to πππ
@umbral rose push-to-talk by proxy
"[speaking as if we know who]: but do we want them asking those questions"
speech to vibe
@stuck bluff recently saw a whole squad of social workers helping a single wheelchair person in the underground train system
I mean, great, but also...it shouldn't take any.
@umbral rose "hold the button, ban on release"
as in you push, they talk
Hahahahaha
@umbral rose non-admin but still lead during that time iirc
or a different time
pizza enterprise
enterpizza
@mild flume @umbral rose @stuck bluff i am just guessing...i think u guys r working around python from long now so what u think as you know pandas and numpy are awesome writing them in ts?
ts?
!pypi ts
I'd lose so much weight if I just pizza'd every day;
counter-intuitive but for some reason it happens that way for me
typeScript
This is why acronyms occasionally frustrate me
TypeScript can't directly interact with pandas and numpy
.ts is both typescript and a fragment of a video
sorry my bad
I don't remember what the video one stands for
MPEG-TS
transport stream
that's not intuitive
since it's a fragment
not the whole stream
yaa like i mostly work around typescript until i want to work in AI but i really love pandas and numpy so i was thinking making a library in typescript that supports pandas and numpy
@crude mirage π
@sinful panther You invoked?

prices here are extremely weird
sushi are no longer an excessively expensive thing, instead just slightly more pricey than "normal" food
<$20 for 1kg
how much/little is that
in European/American prices
@rustic iris
Lemme check
random thing: this is like a big piece of sushi roll, sliced on one side then filled with stuff
$5 for 460g
Which is like 35 usd
That's so expensive!
Yeah :C
Wow
This shitty supermarket sushi is 10 euros
π
here supermarket sushi is close to proper sushi prices
min 50 though
the most I've ever spent in a month on random delivered food was around $200 in a month
that experience did cause me to lose a lot of weight
not to dangerous limits but still
Yeah ordering from that supermarket is hell
just eat 1.85kg
of same sushi
look at that
HAHA
Iβd rather go to a restaurant
Bc supermarket sushi is so ass here
and eat 1.85 of same sushi there
Itβs literally cold hard rice
And itβs refrigerated so horribly you canβt even enjoy the fish
@true valley that does sound like me a bit
but more for social stuff
not the food itself
yes definitely me
but more with "mentally blocklisted" places rather than some general places
@true valley and there is stuff like SzPD which accelerates any such disorder because you'd just never even attempt to fix anything (because you'd never want to)
hey, speak for your cows
soviet engineered cows are industrially advanced π
@true valley are you trying to give him another avoidance disorder
absorbed by molluscs
and the funny fish

I have no idea what age people normally think I am

I should post some troll content on linkedin

it's all that anyway
next step: treating StackOverflow as social network, Reddit-style
@delicate wren ur late. I burned my account already
Just got back from dinner. What are we talking about?
Ahh
America
On the bright-side im sure some people got a kick out of it
@delicate wren how's it going
there's only one subreddit that I remember by name which I might ever considering visiting voluntarily
maybe also that one GPT2 subreddit
r/chemistry is based
@rustic iris top reply also

compressed SQLite
pay that license
$2000 or $4000 I don't remember
whatever it is
Or just not compressed for free
you can also waste $6000 on a license for SQLite itself if you have too much lawyering money anyway
6k is insane
there are so many databases
I did not know about this back-alley side of sqlite
those are extensions
you can make your own paid extensions I think
because it's not GPL
it's Public Domain
you can pay $120K/year if you want

probably client-side
just turns into an edit
