if you want to learn ML internally as well, learning math is a good thing. keras is kinda thing in which you make layers and train model without any much idea how we got the answer.

and well if you are interested in data structures, algo is really a nice subject. It will enhance your logical skills if you will code whichever data structures and algos they implemented.
there are very nice trees to make like red black tree and those self height adjusting trees, making them is fun.
and with graphs, writing algos of finding cycles and all is fun.

where is the "white space" in your CSV file, are there extra white spaces in your original header columns? if so you could try including those spaces in your usecols list of strings. you might also need to pass header=0 if you are trying to override the original column names
