The issues I had were, first of all I thought it was like sed, but it looks like it doesn't actually replace any line and needs a variable (var = re.sub...)
What I was looking for was, inside a python file permanently replace certain lines. I don't know if re.sub or other python tools can do that. I tried:

string1 = re.sub("b", "a", string1, 1)

But the file doesn't change, I can print string1 with the change made but the file itself won't change
