but no - for British tea, you don't use a thermometer
Nice ^^
you heat the water, preferably past boiling point
yeah there are some teas that become poisonous actually so it does matter
.... Hmmm... Well then
then stick in tonnes of black tea
when i was drank my first tea i forgot to cool it down, so i burnt my tongue and couldnt taste anything for the whole day. i have done that a few times after
Poured ONLY
Photoshopped
THAT'S SO DARK
I typically use a thermometer or if I'm lazy the IR one
that's not tea
that's coffee
instant coffee at that
that's so dark it passes as coffee
That looks nornal
Well, I'm American
even for tea that isn't dark
that's SO dark
The French press is in frame
my tea is light beige
that's definitely coffee yeah
I'm not personally offended xD
That's a pretty standard tea colour
I'm with Charlie, that's normal
have yoou ever tried spicy tea
This channel is full of tea snobs 😄
Any lighter and i might as well just drink the creme
B/5
3F bitch
E 4 for me
charlie you need help
Hmmmm, 3c or 4d depending on the mood
5
Plot twist
6A
5 is just good toast
Well done
4 is fine
3 toast best toast
the other 3 are under done
I'm a 3-4
I usually aim 4 but get 5
that's just some tanned bread
charlie out here eating charcoal toast
6 is where it's at, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
5 is approaching burned
it's so obvious to me that 4/5 is where it's at
it's 3F and that's on what PERIOD
at least 1 wasn't popular
1 is just bread
1 is raw
Lmao, raw toast
it's warm bread
its strecthy bread
I could imagine warm bread being good for a bacon sandwhich
it is
bread that was breathed over
also: I usually use a mug 3x this side because 'Merica, thank god I did snap a picture of that here
Bread that was in the vicinity of a cooking oven
Toast/tea sins are unforgivable
what i took from this is that charlie likes eating coal and is calcium deficient
also - going way back to the coffee front @eternal wing there's more to the texture/blend than just the visible stuff, you can taste that it isn't mixed
The calcium deficiency might not be wrong
but
my search also came up with this image
that aint charcoal
this is charlie's toaster irl
it's insulted
bro that's COAL
my toaster mainly gets used for crumpets
that's bbq material
touché
moné
I am an extreme coffee snob and I stand that this coffee is perfectly mixed
crumpets and hotcross buns are the standard things that I toast
for those that don't know
I took a video as well
wait hotcross buns actually exist?
thicc pamcake
ty, my american mind could not comprehend
is a crumpet
I thought it was just a BANGER on the recorder
I don't even know why I'm in this conversation, I don't drink tea or coffee 😄
it's a thick pancake g
ah, an english muffin
nop, that's something else
it's LITERALLY bread pancake
I don't even know why I'm in this conversation, I don't drink tea or coffee 😄
you should stay here and take my side anyway
hot cross buns
english muffins are bread pancakes
I'll consider it
oh nice
they are very cross
whoa
English muffins are pretty good
" a small griddle cake made from an unsweetened batter of water or milk, flour and yeast" IT'S FUCKING BREAD BUDDY
No
Mmmm biscuits
A crumpet is essentially bread yeah
I like butter okay
I do rate english breakfast pretty high on the breakfast scale
it's all about the texture
a crumpet is just the politest way to drink butter honestly
g you like a lot of things
wanna talk about cheese?
the politest way to drink butter is in your coffee
of course I want to talk about cheese
this is actually an intervention for g
Gouda >>>>>
the politest way to drink butter is in your coffee
I have yet to manage to try butter coffee
about his cheese addiction
you don't just dump a lump in a normal cup of coffee right?
Butter in coffee...? What??
there's nothing better than a decent aged cheddar
he don't only simp he donates all his assets to the cheese
forfeits all his material possessions
I think you do for bulletproof coffee??
just so he can have a crumb of parmesan
there's nothing better than a decent aged cheddar
that's a fact. Preferably cave aged
you don't just dump a lump in a normal cup of coffee right?
I tried this with unsalted. Is not bad it is not really good though
no thats not good
there are cheese stores?
Oooh yeah, a good aged gouda is heavenly
bro y'all out here putting BUTTER ON COFFEE
I like that so many countries think they have the best cheese
when obviously England is the best
haha
I believe in some areas the butter in coffee is a traditional way to drink it
There are! It's magical
Don't tell gdude about the cheese stores oh no
i am now legally allowed to hunt you
has anyone here tried turkish coffee?
the butter in coffee thing was supposed to be a health food thing
it was absolutely stupid though
HEALTH FOOD
yeah I know
i'm done
it is keto
@royal laurel That's not really what it is if you do it right, that's just the name for it. You put something like coconut butter and lots of weird creamy sweet stuff in it
I assume
i'm pulling out the shotgun
A cheese wheel?
mmm cheese
Proponents of butter coffee claim that it suppresses hunger and helps you lose weight by helping you eat less. Butter coffee contains a large amount of fat, which slows digestion and may increase feelings of fullness
yeah, that is the stupid version xD
Doubt.
now let's talk about cholesterol for a minute
increase feelings of fullnes yeah because you just got your calorie intake for 3 days in one cup of coffee
I'd absolutely love butter coffee - but I also don't get near enough calories regularly
My cholesterol is perfect, which is actually hilarious
i dont see the point of not eating cheese
Many reasons
laughs in cholesterol under the normal values
I mean if you're badly lactose intolerant and don't want to push through it
I am a cheese proponent
I can understand not wanting to eat cheese
Cheese activist, @eternal wing
i am lactose intolerant and istill eat it
Cheese is tasty.
tell you why
i don't care
It boggles the mind that there are some people who don't like cheese
I know some lactose intolerant people that takes meds just to eat cheese.
All the lactose intolerant people I know will still absolutely eat cheese
the risk is calculated but man am i bad at math
Cheese wheel throne? 🤔
I know a few that hate cheese.
I also know a few that eat queso fresca by the mouthful
it's queso fresco
I mean I can just eat a wedge of parmesan
cheese is a male object
ty
I hope queso fresca is actually a fresca painting but of queso
Parmesan is one of my favorite cheeses to be sure
it'd be a bad idea but I'm fine with it
Spanish ^
yes, I let my spanish slip
yeah spanish has gendered objects
haha
not only spanish
Buying a massive wheel of cheddar has always appealed to me
but
they are a bit too big
and I don't like cheese that much
I mean if you were gonna get a good cheddar
that would cost a fuck of a lot of money
Do it anyway, yes you do
I hope queso fresca is actually a fresca painting but of queso
yes, I am just an admirer of the fine artsnot grammatically illiterate
i love cheddar so fucking much but DUDE my stomach will hate me after it
it's an aged cheddar
i'm very skeptical
evet
@rough sapphire Go out and get that cheese throne. Achieve your dreams.
it's like €15 for a 400g cornish cruncher at M&S
rule 4 please
Good cheddar doesn't come from cornwall
!rule 4
4. This is an English-speaking server, so please speak English to the best of your ability.
it comes from Sommerset
real english server
or possibly Dorset
im jk, not about to start that one
well this one is really good
@rough sapphire And when you do, upload a pic, and tag me ;]
£13.40 apparently
cornish cruncher aka corn dentures
I'm out for now, good discussions
o/
we should add a currency and unit converter to the bot. I keep using imperial units even though they are silly
👋
yeah, i'm also gonna go do other things than procrastinate on Discord. But i'm glad we managed to agree that B/5+a crumpet is the ideal British Brunch
we should ban those in general, not just from the server xD
!wa 1m to f
Listen, when it comes to machining things in >>>>> cm any goddamn day
We should ban inches and other dumb units
i read that as itches
I have nothing to do 😄 so I can just stay here
lol, grote
Nice, metres to fortnights.
bye doing mat
im just impressed they could do the math for that one
It interpreted it as minutes to fortnights while I meant for it to do meters to feet.
feet is probably ft
(ft. singer)
!wa 1m to ft
that's not that hard. That's 1/(2*7*60*60*24)
no no, we need to do the proof of 1 meter == 4.96*10^-3 fortnights
yeaaaaah
it was 1 minute, not meter
I think we need a better command
!wa pikachu graph
😦
lol
1m is 4.4xinner radius of an NBA basketball rim
I realize what happened, but I still think we should work on a proof
because I literally have nothing better to do
At lightspeed, it takes 3.3ns to travel 1m
there we go, now we are on to something
I think the default unit when I installed Fusion 360 was inches and I thought that was hilarious
mine keeps defaulting to mm and I keep forgetting to change it
So I'll have a piece for like 2 in and get 2 mm and I'm like.... waaait a minute
in fact: the hardest thing about aerospace stuff was I needed to remember all the conversions of units and sometimes just memorized different constants in equations based on the units.
like, wtf is a "slug" and why did we need that unit of measurement.
At my work I need to give velocity in imperial, but all inputs are given to me in metric
On test days it's a fast turn around too, ooooh boy. I have a pretty tricked out back and forth converter I made in excel now
aviation as a whole is weird with units
that is awesome though haha
it baffles me that imperial units are still even used tbh
My favorite is when I get mixed units. 40kg with an expected pressure of 4kpsi. What's the exit velocity in ft/s?
sorry
yeah, they would do it to mess with us I feel like in aviation. like, everything would be in essentially the "wrong" unit
knots per fortnight.
lol, I would be so pissed if I saw that
Part of my work shares some similarity with the aviation field. The unit switching gets me constantly
I wouldnt doubt it after my curriculum though
KPF
But it's just because different standards from different countries and when you combine it *shrug*
And just to make it more usefull, we'll make knots be different depending on the vehicle.
When I did submarine QA work, oh boy did the unit thing get weird.
yeah, I feel like the us should have switched units about the time we lost a space ship/shuttle because of it (i dont remember which one)
lol... units are annoying
Wasn't it a rover of sorts?
oh yeah, it was a rover
Yup their Mars Climate Orbiter
in aviation we use both Statute miles and Nautical miles, but the military uses meters........................................................................
Nautical mile is used because of its relationship with latitude
They didn't convert from English to metric
so I need to interpret all three correctly
Oh yup
English gallon vs US gallon
beard?
The worst is even in imperial, lb-force or lb-mass
And ft-length or ft-bodypart
I hate slugs as a unit
I think it was a typo though, I cant recall
Slugs, like the shotgun ammo or the slimy creature?
shotgun ammo?
A modern shotgun slug is a heavy projectile made of lead, copper, or other material and fired from a shotgun.```
I do not miss those courses
what kind of unit is it
all my homies use metric
I don't understand imperial
me neither
I think we just use it to stick it to the rest of the world
12in == 1ft == 0.33yd (no one uses this, lel) == 0.0001875mi
Its just so weird
I agree
ew imperial
is sex pistol lurking here? if so: your advice was pretty good, my speed and accuracy is way up today
Anyone know where I could find the regex for the discord token detection thing
If I recall the bot has a feature where it deletes messages with tokens in them I think
hmmm, I can take a look, but idk where it can be found
if it exists xD
god I love good practice
@modern heron
not that
is sex pistol lurking here? if so: your advice was pretty good, my speed and accuracy is way up today
haha im not lurking lol
thats good, glad i was of some help 😄
i thought it was ur bot lol
but its actual py disc bot
@eternal wing what do u use for procedural terrain generator, marching cubes ??
and jsut shade it ?
I have not really played with it actually, I was just interested in trying it out. sadly.
but I want to do everything those unity dudes do (sebastian lague in particular)
terrain is pretty easy if u know hwat ur doing lol
after i complete learning rust i will make one and chuck it to ya
and u can do it in c#
and chuck that code in c# back to me again lol
haha, I would love to see the result. Im not confident enough in c# to just rip it out though xD
reverse engineering 🙂
well up to u lol
assembly
dare ya @eternal wing bahahaha
lololol I cherish my time, unfortunately
actually, my next big project might be music related, we shall see
that terrain generator has been on my list for months now
ah fair enough its kinda fun project lol
i did algorith visualtisation is python, terrain generator and path finding algo vis in javascript lol
all of them are incomplete tho lol
already got pile of new projects im currently trying to work on hahha
i jsut added a new project yesterdat llol
actually i never thought of doing something realted to music lol
maybe auyto generated 8bit music bhahah
@upper sand Do you have any projects i can try to contribute to?
(Python)
on github/etc.
I need to start contributing somewhere since i know python
i c fair enough not atm but mr native linux user has a bot open source project u can contribute too
he would be more than happy
if u contribute to his project
@eternal wing
sorry for the ping lul
u can get more detail on this projet directly from him coz i dont know much about the bot
alright, i'll try to help
sweet beans
i did pathfinding in Java haha
I know java too
A Discord Bot that is just a good Friendo. Contribute to fisher60/Friendo_Bot development by creating an account on GitHub.
Machine learning algorithms to predict game outcomes based on the League of Legends dataset from https://www.kaggle.com/bobbyscience/league-of-legends-diamond-ranked-games-10-min?select=high_diamon...
wait check my path finding lol
if interested
alright
and I am lurking, no worries on ping haha
u can run only steps i tell u tho lol
what do you mean? 🤨
I think he is referring to his scripts
OH
so add start
and end point from add menu
and chose only dijikstras algo
and then run
oh wait, I translated mine to python, well, it was just the algorithm, I never applied it 😛
coz i did only work on dijikstras
WHOAAAA
u can add walls
that is just visually pleasing
weight checkpoint
duuuude, this is awesome
haha ty
WOW
i will work
like honestly, that was really cool
I am familiar only with breadth search haha from that list
yeah, honestly, it is not only cool that you applied the algo, but those visuals are really great.
Did you program the front end on your own? or is this some sort of prebuilt?
my god
I am so impressed by this that I feel guilty to anyone else who I said I was impressed by. This is one of the coolest things I have seen done with webdev haha
lol, no
I can flex then
so it was smooth for u damnn..
cuz it is smooth as butter
sweet hhaha
have you not seen it run smoothly then? It looks insane
for some reason the checkpoint seemed a bit slower, but still really cool
How to put pycharm on desktop?
On linux
yea coz its computing as the whole thing as u animate lol
if u see the chart using dev tool
u will see the cpu usage lol
i need to optimise the code too
like bundle the whoe thing together and it will run smooth as butter
god dam gorgeous
How to put pycharm on desktop?
On linux
you can probs just download it like normal
I have not, what does weight do exactly?
so it will just increase the cost of the path
n the algo will try to choose the most optimal path
ohh, that is awesome
this is some serious game dev stuff.
Wow, im even more impressed that you pretty much implemented it entirely
its not that hard as u think
I have played with similar things before, but never with such sweet visuals
ye its fun lol
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/704764722372804681/726427593657548800/B2E58C82-CA57-4C38-8F44-7D44EC5EC55C_2_0_a.mov and did that at one point as well
Maze generation + pathfinding
i need to work on the maze generation for that website
but i ended up making one for my farming game im workign on, in c# haha
btw look really cool
I forgot what algorithm this is based on, but here is one I did for a challenge.
def solution(x, y):
x = int(x)
y = int(y)
final = 0
while not (x == 1 and y == 1):
print((x, y))
if x <= 0 or y <= 0:
return 'impossible'
if y == 1:
return str(final + x - 1)
else:
final += x//y
x, y = y, x % y
return str(final)
print(solution('4', '7'))
I also kinda forgot what it does
tbh
actually, I dont think this explicitly relates to pathfinding
but close enough
and then I have one for a chess knight
@upper sand
Oh, actually I misread their message, but still.... looking for a doc writer LOL, ok im done, sorry haha
@tranquil orchid so cool
Hecc can I ask if anyone can tell me if this is actually C++ and what the syntax errors might be? A friend said he needed help with it, but I came to find that his code was copy pasted from his teacher but still wouldn't load
that looks like a c++
I noticed his teacher was using a 2015 visual studio and he was using 2017, but I'm not sure if there was a difference in versions
Hmm
youre welcome, bye
Was there a version jump like between python 2 and 3?
I have no idea how to do C++
I mean, what are the compile errors?
I do be a python only boii
!paste
Pasting large amounts of code
If your code is too long to fit in a codeblock in discord, you can paste your code here:
https://paste.pydis.com/
After pasting your code, save it by clicking the floppy disk icon in the top right, or by typing ctrl + S. After doing that, the URL should change. Copy the URL and post it here so others can see it.
use that
Was there a version jump like between python 2 and 3?
@rough sapphire hmmm yeah i think so. python 2.8 was in beta?? and got abandoned because end of life
oh wait i brainfarted nvm that comment lol
I mean, what are the compile errors?
@eternal wing From the ones I understood, a syntax error on line 21
wouldnt Num1 through 3 be strings?
I think he defined it as float in line 8?
Again, I do be blur
Not sure if they were casted to string somewhere along the line
When I looked at the code for him all I could make was that he probably forgot to close his "(string here?)"
Like line 21 has "<<sum<<"newline"
but no close for the first inverted comma
oh, you cannot put string literals across multiple lines like that in CPP
needs a \ at the end of the line
or just linebreak after the operator
also, there is a surplus " at the end of either line
Lemme check with him
After the \n?
either quote before << or remove the quote after <<
or not
that is still an error due to the missing \
my bad
He could alternatively merge those two lines, if I understand correctly?
ye
Kewlcheese
Thanks, lemme see if I can get it to work
lmao the bugger walked off his PC from online class, but it should do work
Thank you so much guys @graceful basin @eternal wing @mild abyss
Lol, you are welcome for my keen eye identifying that it was, in fact, c++
the fact that my comrade was so confused, I questioned if he had the wrong language 😂
That is pretty awesome haha.
Always happy to try to help
Welp, I went to python general for about 30 seconds, no need to go back there anytime soon.
is it like uni thing or personally picked up language?
is it like uni thing or personally picked up language?
@upper sand hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
i was just wondering if he was forced to learn c++ as a part of a course or just choosed it himself to learn @mild abyss
@upper sand okay i was kinda wondering because i was really not readingthe previous convo
haha fair enough lol 😄
Glad I went with python first ,SQL is significantly easier once you understand some programming basics
might be good to get the mindset though
How
When u learning sql urself
U prob dont look the for thingd like procedure, functions, triggers etc in sql
Well u kinda right, guess it doesnt hurt to have that mindest
And also it was totally my personal pref 👍
Setting up the where clause, understanding the concept of adding truthy and falsey with or / and
Though I imagine had I gone with SQL first, that part of Python would have been easier
but I like how transferrable the knowledge is
it's going much better than I had anticipated
Truthy is kinda math
It is math
Ye
But it requires thinking a bit different than we're used to
and unless you've done that, it can easily confuse
Well like i said its personal perf
I did programming alot in my first sem n when i took sql in my second sem
I couldnt understand shit
IDK about that, I think the knowledge is transferrable, regardless of preference?
I don't need to learn ints vs floats
I understand quickly that spaces must be enclosed in quotes
Well im dumb n high most of the time so tbat might be the thimg too bahah
1noiceee
True true
I love me some medical cannabis, but if anything it helps me focus on the work at hand. Though I wouldn't generally consider myself dumb, I do like to play the fool
a few months back
'
according to this script I wrote ~ 4months ago
which dates to when I installed Python and decided to learn to code
Cool haha thats really creative
Going to start working on a discord bot soon, just gotta finish another tutorial or two
this one is getting me through some SQL stuff, making a todolist on jetbrains
Ohhh btw when u have free time reasearch on dbms too
Its personal opinion
are you trying to learn sql
JS is next on the list, once I've done another month or 2 of Python, maybe sooner
Just ab it of SQL
@surreal otter you seem to be missing joins on that plan
joins are overrated
and that's probably one of the most powerful parts of SQL
one table is good for me for now
they definitely aren't overrated
They are basic of basic lol
Trust me, I had to deal with a GUI front end of SQL in my data days at a small bank
I know the importance of joins
Honestly, that's probably a bad way to learn SQL. SQL is all about relational data, so stuff like normalisation goes hand in hand with it
Well u gotta start somewhere
That's fair
I think it depends.. dml ddl dql, if you're just working with one of these.. there's a lot you can leave out
If you're aiming to land a general software dev, then getting the theory down is probably more impotant than the details of different SQL operations
And somewhere can't be everywhere
@surreal otter given that its better to undersatnd dmbs concept too lol
nltk is almost as old as I am
Butye all ur gonna do is just writ script to find and filter databse then
xml in python.. gee wiz
I understand that it'd also be good for me to learn C# and C++, but right now teh focus isn't SQL, SQL Is just a means to an ends
That is fine lul
what is that ends?
in which case, schema definition is more important than half of the stuff on your list
using a DB with 1 table
basically a CSV, in a DB
that will allow me to expand
but for now
I just need the one table
Alpha .0.0.1
so I rather start with the DB
if that's your end, you're probably better off going with MongoDB
where you can just throw python dicts in there
which is why someone recommended the todolist on jetbrains
Serveless is a go for those kinda stuffs
depends on the type of databases
there are serverless db's that scale for global workloads.. but the guy is starting off lol let him breathe
Oh well u dont have worry about much stuff in serverless databse lol
Are there serverless DBs? You surely explicitly don't want your massive DB to be serverless
you want the server to do cacheing and shit
to make sure your queries are fast
(this is me asking for me, definitely not relevant to Gnabergasher)
yes there are serverless db's these days.. and yep they cache automatically
but you want in memory cacheing
which you can't do with serverless
at least that's my understanding
Well mongo db has it
By serverless database, do you just mean a database that plays nicely with serverless applications?
if so - that's different to what I'm envisaging
Ohh
fully managed https://cloud.google.com/spanner/docs
I thought you meant a database that was deployed in the same way as serverless applications
although, I'm not quite sure of the caching capabilities.. I just know it supports query caching but otherwise, caching is from secondary storage
which made no sense to me
I thought cloud spanner was EOL?
but I think i misunderstood
EOL? that's news to me.. it's one of their key offerings
Something was
Well ye mongo db does query caching but it depends
Got announcement at work. Read it for like 5 seconds and deleted it
Since my team doesn’t use GCP
GCP is nice, for some of their offerings.. better than AWS for some applications
but their pricing though on the lower side is harder to figure out
I need to lean aws
GCP is the platform i'm slowly forcing myself to use/learn about
What was the 12 month tial thingy on aws
their stuff seems alright
but i'm not a megacorp
so my needs are simple
i just want to throw docker containers at it
I'm an expert on GCP data engineering stuff.. and learning Azure nowadays
GCP is great for small. Terrible for unique enterprise needs
What i thought disocrd was using gcp
azure iirc
sorry what, VMs are not cloud
I thought it was cloudflare and gc0
what is this half-talk
Gcp
Last massive GCP outage Discord went poof
what's that media streaming site people use.. for their songs
plex?
soundcloud?
Bahha
oh
Running VMs in a cloud isn’t really cloud. That’s refusing to host your own datacenter. Tell me I’m wrong
More cloudy
is probably something like cumulonimbus or something
Y use vms when u can just docker
Docker isn’t replacement for all workloads
VMs are used interchangeably.. on the cloud they usually refer to physical nodes these days
Large workloads like database servers make sense as VM
Can yes, make sense, not really
Hmm faur enough i need to dig mkre on the server side after i finish learning rust
Anyways thnx fkr the info
Docker database servers are great for testing. Just not always prod
Ahh i c still need to research on it thnx aagain m8
Oh fuck yeah, this class has takehome exams and homework is graded for completion not correctness
lol
grad school, it's practically a scam 🙃
But it's for completion because some of the stuff we do is... difficult
Fuck, I need to brush up my linear algebra and my PDEs though
I think I still have this "learn linear algebra using manga" PDF lol
ha, wait really?
Yup
that's amazing
This is amazing and very amusing
Ye
@solid pollen What's the link? It's saying something about signing into Google.
Yeah
The file is on my school account, so Google wants to check if you are in the same Google org first
I'm on phone so I can't change that
I mean, what's the file though?
"the manga guide to linear algebra"
i see this often and it bugs me
while using google meet, if i make any sounds while my microphone is turned off, it tells me "are you speaking? your microphone is off"
how?! are they blatantly admitting to using the microphone all the time lmao?
😏
kittens and puppies, in a box
just get a box of puppies
call it my_favorite_box
why not?
Like a real box?
Or like ```py
class Box:
How do I Python
It's been a while since I touched the thing
type
class Box:
def __init__(self, height, width, depth):
self.height = height
self.width = width
self.depth = depth
def volume(self):
return self.height * self.width * self.depth
More or less
How do you null-coalesce in Python?
you don't :(
Oh
What's that?
I'm not sure on exactly what null coalescing means, but it's stuff like the elvis operaor in kotlin
stuff like box?.height
https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0505/
Here's the pep for it in Python
Which would give back Some[] or None
Interesting
Sorry, misspoke. It's Optional[]
But I mean you can still do that check with just a if x is None or if x is not None
you can, but it's kinda verbose
Especially when you chain coalescence
a ?? b ?? c vs a if a is not None else b if b is not None else c
Yeah but you lose readability super quick that way
Oh no I see what you're saying
I mean you wouldn't phrase it that way, you'd use properly indented if chains
And that wouldn't take up a whole long of room
And is more versatile since you typically have more than just one path to handle
@plucky ridge having dealt with lots of nully jsony bullshit in python relatively recently. You get really sick of checking if things are/aren't None - and it spreads what could be concise atomic statements out so much that it negatively effects readability
Fair point, I hadn't thought about it in that sense
I think there'd have to be a lib or something to make that cleaner, wouldn't there?
Specifically the JSON aspect, I mean
I can't really see how it could be cleaner without these operators. You need to check if things are null depending on your own (or the API's own) schema - I can't really envisage a way that a library would smooth that out
Have it let you fill out a template of how a certain branches' contents should be and have it default all the things that aren't there?
in fairness - I didn't look
Also, using .get() checks would also mitigate a lot of it
if you're trying to avoid null don't use .get()
get returns regardless of if it's missing or not
yeah, it's when you're chaining .get() calls that it gets awkward. I no longer have access to the code, but I really felt like I wrote it in roughly the cleanest way possible
also - some of the code I was working with was doing x or 'default' all over the place - which was terrible because it was just checking for Nones, not for falsey values
or
no
I mean
x is not None or "default"
Which I just realized that wouldn't work
but a ?? operator would have bee nice
Sure but it's just syntactic sugar. There's nothing currently stopping us from writing out the logic. I'm not speaking against it, but I don't see it being like... the top needed feature
I agree it's not the top needed feature. But having worked with it in Kotlin, and having worked in Python where it would have made things much more readable, I'd love it if it were implemented
Fo sho
I also haven't managed to find much actual discussion about that PEP
I'd be curious to hear the arguments against it from people smarter than me
Wonder if anyone in #internals-and-peps might know
I've asked there at least once before, and they suggested asking the mailing list iirc
Guess that makes sense
I want this but for that pep essentially https://github.com/markshannon/pep622-critique
(which probably doesn't exist, but i'd just be very curious)
Switch statements got rejected twice
And is going in for a third
....he says forgetting that 622 IS the pattern matching one
Sheesh
I don't like case _:
I hate passing null in JSON, we had a customer specifically ask we pass Null for JSON fields we didn't have data for because they didn't believe us when were like "We don't pass fields we don't have data for"
lol, no no the customer always know best 😆
they didn't want to do if key in dict: I guess
of course not, that would be too easy
life of enterprise software
How come i can’t connect to discord when on this public wifi, but everything else works? And how do i get around it? I tried using a vpn, doesn’t work
Hmmm. I would have guessed they are blocking discord, but the VPN should have fixed that.
Did you try accessing anything else using the VPN?
Maybe the VPN is blocked, in some way
I tried going onto facebook, which worked
And i made a few google searches
Yeah discord wouldn’t load, and the VPN wouldn’t connect
@narrow pecan
Maybe the VPN is blocked. I suppose that should be possible
You could always use Tor, but that may seem a bit extreme for just using Discord. If Tor is blocked, you could configure bridges for it
I'd recommend that you check the terms that the internet provider has laid out for using the service btw @halcyon mantle
oh very nice, but can you draw a toucan earlier
blurry toucan
not blurry, just fast
ideally someone would say "toucan play at that game" and proceed to draw a toucan
but i'm disappointed to see that has not happened
that would be pretty funny
but now that you've said it even if someone was drawing a toucan
it's ruined
but you know @undone berry
toucan playing that game
and with that, bed.
o/
Night
I am nothing but pleased with this chain of events
Lmao
HA, forgot about this ot name
lmao, what's the story behind this one?
How many ot names are there
Surely theres at least 100
Cause i've seen quite a few names
lmao, this DMV website counts tabs as a character for the password
what's the origin of the channel name?
he was probably being a fussy little guy
's so
i c
There are currently 667 ot names
oh boy
Only
Just one or two
and my name is in one of them yay
I got one in there as well
But geez 667
That probably explains why i think i've only seen a duplicate once
I think I've set... At least 2
Some of them are pretty good though
I mean, some of all of them
Yeah theres some good ones lmao
I wonder how long it would take on average for all the names to come up, I think someone did do the maths on it before.
They get changed each day right?
Yeah
Is it in a cycle or just random each time?
Random each time currently
Oh boy yeah it could take a while for everything to show up
Yeah, it's the sort of thing where you could get through maybe 90% of them relatively quickly, but that last 10% could have you waiting a while
That's maths for ya
Lol
There's a PR to make it so we would see each otn at least once
lmao
nice.
I hope someday this is what the aliens find of us.
they could have top experts spend their life's work deciphering the events here. And finding the reason behind knowledgeable toucan
It was simply a toucan he drew earlier
Yeah, but how do you explain that in this context?
In the context of aliens finding the toucan?
I mean, and bear with me, aliens discover a dusty old server, they boot it up.
They find data logs where some of the brightest minds of programmers all congregated, so they commit top researches to understanding this... only to be memed on and get stuck as to the significance of the toucan... Ok, I admit it is probably too late for me to be on here now xD
hey guys
im trying to learn asm and couldnt find the syscalls for windows
is there anyone who maybe knows where theyre stored?
thanks, ill look into that
you mean my usrname?
its because a lot of people were called petr in this server
or something similar to petr
so every time someone would try to @ me they would @ the wrong person
new partners pog
I just found a dis server where girls make guys do their homework lmfaooo ripooo
🚮
Smh
Sounds pretty trash to me
Actually it sounds like it might break the discord rules potentially
I think it does. i reported it anyways
Good stuff
wow.. what horrible horrible people
"make" is doing some heavy lifting there
so i just drove into town to try and get some groceries, they dug up the central crossroads and blocked all traffic to it
but hadn't put up any signs
so when i get near the crossroads i just see 4 HGV's stacked up trying to reverse back up so they can turn around in a tiny, very steep, cul-de-sac
exceptional work from highway maintenance there
Can someone help me here
all my other imports work fine, but this file refuses to import app and db
the py version might not be supported?
oh.. let me check
when I have the viewer_grabber.py outside of my package, those imports work just fine
also been using the same version of python even tho i did update
U def need to go through package n mod doc for this, to check how it works
But did u fix it @lost vortex
?
@upper sand i havent but im trying to revert back to 3.8.3
since 3.8.5 this has been a problem
Like i said u sud checkout docs how to implement it pacakges and modules for better understanding
oh
Ye its not ver issue
ill read the docs than, thanks
Sweet best of luck

@plucky ridge heres the article from where i found it from
Yo, that's really cool.
You can see where I might have thought it was a negative
Hem.. what's the context of this channel name?
Oh wait...
I at one point said "I'm probably just being a fussy butt."
And Ves almost instantly made it an ot name
Because friends
nice
@rough sapphire I really appreciate you sharing that. Very interesting article as well
Either or
