"it's a good thing they haven't discovered TOR"
"what's TOR? can we block that too?"
cue a fucking riot of confusion
IT Professional - China grade censorship
"but you've blocked the others, why can't you do this one?"
Lol teachers am i right? :
I mean, it'd work
it'd also be almost entirely unblockable
can you not block tor by using the relay search? https://metrics.torproject.org/rs.html
Good thing my brother ain’t next to me
You'd have to disable USB ports to stop people installing it
That'd be the easiest way
If he was looks like he would’ve learned TOR
use tails
Then the kids in his game would go play...
Acid bunny
That game was just interesting
Shut down the internet, easy as that
Especially playing it in 5th grade and didn’t understand what was going on
Back in 5th grade
could've tbh @rough sapphire
for each connection, perform a search on the dest IP, if it pops up, it's obviously a node and you kill the connection
didn't think of that
or am I missing something here
ah well
tor bridges are a thing
i only knew of 2 kids who used tor there and that's because i talked to them about vpn's and proxies
@rough sapphire entry node is always a guard node which is always on the search database
Man it’s really smart for them to put a advanced python channel
or firefox lets you configure a proxy, there are hundreds of free things
probably made things worse.
Wouldn't it be easiest to just block everything and allow if needed
ip's?
because that'd be insane
you can do it by port, but you can run a VPN through any port
you're not going to close of 80 and 443
nah the teachers would complain because youd get "my obsucure conspiracy site is blocked"
i'm not sure that level of whitelisting is even maintainable
screw all of that, they'll just connect to a phones hotspot
at the end of the day: yes.
Security is always as strong as its weakest link
you're literally not allowed to wrap an entire school building in a faraday cage
schools would try it
i mean in the UK you're legally not allowed to do it
at great taxpayer expense
lucky
Why would you block phone signals?
because it blocks data usage
Sounds like a prison
the idea that schools have is stopping kids in schools from viewing things they shouldn't while on school property
which, to be fair to schools, is what you expect
to stop just tethering the school computer to a phone, to bypass the content filter
but that's got some heavy limitations in terms of technology
eh, schools block tethering like that in other ways.
wired connections, fixed networks, disable all USB.
it's pretty easy to stop tethering - pretty sure you can just disable access to it for certain user groups
yeah but if you disable USB you cant use usb sticks
In fairness it couldn't be THAT expensive to make the entire school a big Faraday cage
Imagine if schools had some MILITARY GRADE technology to block students from going in to some websites
or bring it in on a stick
teacher can move it across during class
system works fine.
since when are fahraday cages military tech>
most school blocking software is pretty reasonable. If 1% of students can get around it by VPNing into a raspberyy pi on their home network - how really cares
i mean, you can block USB devices by descriptor...
true
Or just disable the ports
or just disable all the ports and make them talk to their teacher
Just make sure your machines have PS/2 ports for keyboard and mouse
but rembember, this has to be done by the lowest bidder, govt. approved contractor
impereo (i think it was called) is excellent in computer control
provide students with a set brand
@gentle moss
If you do that, teachers are just gonna end up plugging in Student's USB sticks for them. All teachers want is to get the homework off the brats with as little faffing as possible
so it doesn't solve anything
and adds stress to teachers
i mean, i worked in a school... that shit wasn't done by a contractor
that's like....
decades of shit upgrades by sort of competent people
forcing teachers to plug in 30 USB sticks a day is also bad security
i wouldn't use VID/PID. i'd only allow MSC class descriptor. no drive? no sir...
you just cant win
They could, now hear me out, turn things in on paper
Bisk do you mean the "IT" people who isn't really IT?
i mean it doesn't matter if the teacher is plugging in 30 USB sticks a day
Just letting students plug whatever in is probably fine
that's a single point of failure, btw
would you rather every machine was an infection vector?
I used to just email it to my teachers
that's annoying for teachers to deal with as well
most teachers just want paper copies
that's what they asked me to do
everything is annoying to teachers
yup
yeah, unless its over 10mb email is fine
i swear they're basically like 3 glasses of pinot away from burning down the school
those people go through insane shit
I mean - I get it from the teachers POV, you want the homework from the brats in the easiest format possible - which is usually paper, sometimes email
Email is the best solutions, no hard unless you send excel with a virus in it
noir or grigio though
grigio
you don't want to have to deal with little Billy's "but I have it, it's just on this memory stick" bulshit
yeah they're underpaid and have to deal with so much stuff day in day out
naturally
I don't know
it's almost like if they didn't underfund schools and flog them off to private entities for the past decade and a bit
then maybe schools would have more robust IT infrastructure and working behaviours for teachers
Nah
sell it to elon musk
Neh
shoot the school to the moon
I think no matter the funding, most schools would have at least slightly shit IT
too many shitty users
so what you're saying bisk
both students and teachers
Bisk that's deep 😄
is that teachers are the most likely people to have bath wine?
haha
They would from the tears anyway
well i mean its like you have 1000 annoyed kids, constanly pen testing the system...
IT in schools does always seem to get the shit end of the stick
and i think charlie's right in a sense
funding doesn't matter
@plucky ridge good one 😄
I dunno - thinking of some of my teachers, I'd be willing to bet big bucks that they go in for bath wine
because all school IT jobs pay like wank compared to private jobs
I couldn't imagine dealing with shitty little 15yos all day
100%
having also done work in a school, I agree
then not wanting to drink
bath liqour
the only benefit is if you slave away in a school for 30 years
you get a nicer pension
yeah but minus your sanity
dude I spent a weekend (as a student at the school, but still) upgrading all of the computers in the building
i make more now working 3 days a week than doing 5 days at a school.
they paid me like €80
and i'm still underpaid
Most teachers became teachers because they wanted to teach - then they got all the bullshit politics and bureaucracy dumped on them
Just create AI to grade those tests
yeah no
let's not
I know
wait til you find out the AI automatically grades black students lower
:D
it was a joke 😄
for no reason
oh there's a reason julie
that being said - current marking of exam papers is a fucking joke
remarks consistently bring up to 25marks difference
it'd be that the computer was fed allllll the papers
so an AI probably wouldn't be worse
well the reason is it learned it from rascist humans
and the white kids did better (For whatever political reason)
so it automatically downgrades black kids.
i mean we joke, but this happened in real systems
systems for automating CV's
Yeah, that was Amazon
wtf
women / ethnic people got rejected
happend in california with prison scentances
prejudiced against womens colleges
because the majority of data fed it showed that white men were better candidates
sooooooooooooo..........
the dumb leading the blind, fml.
yep
Sure
tbf - knowing about that Amazon thing is a fucking great way to sound like you're keyed in and know what's what with AI
people are very impressed by the story
pretty sure it landed me a job offer
Let's make the AI grade our Finals ::D
it sounds impressive
one of the fields asks: WHat is your skin tone
in hexadecimal please
yeah - it's not at all complicated
but now with computers
it's the kind of thing that everyone should know, it's simple to explain and to understand - just the news is shit at that
and some of the smartest minds in the world couldn't see that logical failure
it's impressive.
yeah except unkowing programmer teaches computer to be racist because we live in a society
Maybe the AI was a lie and there was real people behind it all * Puts foilhat on *
real people know they have to be less racist or they'll have the government on their back for racist hiring practices.
just teach the computer racism and we'll all be muc-
oh wait... twitter did that with a microsoft AI in like 30 minutes
Tay.
That's... actually not a terrible idea. Not teaching it to use racism, but knowing what to avoid
Possibly
pretty sure it kept happening as well
"i'm here to be your friend and learn from you!"
til they just gave up
30 minutes later
it did keep happening yeah
Maybe a stupid idea, come to think of it
in here it's illegal to ask do you go to curch, but instead they ask: can you work on sundays
just say no anyway
I feel like that's an unrelated question, personally
i can work on sundays
what are they gonna do, ask what church you go to?
Just because you go to church doesn't mean it takes 100% of your day
sabbath
So it's possible to do both
or that you'll espouse work for church
Isn't Church like 2hrs in the morning?
idk, never went
If that
sabbath is the point. the question is can, not will...
all the Churchy people I've known personally have been fantastic people
they smile too fucking much
I only have any kind of decent friendship with a handful of churchy people
weird smiles too, not good smiles.
but they all understand why I'm not a churchy person
most of the ones i know don't belive in the big bang
I think the CoE is probably one of the best organised religions going
better than Catholicism
i learned about the church of england from an aqualung song
i mean i still don't know what it is but that's where i heard of it
I shouldn't have said that...
"What do you mean I can't get divorced?!? FINE! I'll just make my OWN church!
a better church with blackjack, and hookers
CoE is very much more new testament than catholicism. You have high profile gay people like Richard Coles for example - they're about as progressive as it gets
@rough sapphire In fairness that'd certainly help increase turnout
@rough sapphire In fairness that'd certainly help increase turnout
@plucky ridge the church of saint bender
church of vim and next to it curch of emacs
Reminds me of the church of satan guy
@polar vigil yeah what, does nano only get a shrine?
idk man tutorials for text editors seems kinda annoying
I just find stuff accidently
Maybe I would be in a programming job if I could use even one of them... :sad:
nah youd have a programming job if you can program
I wanted to learn python, but I never figured out how to download stuff from the internet
first I used mac, then the screen broke and it costed as much as new mac, so I bought PC, it was kind of slow, so I downloaded linux from cd I got from my local library (last page of linux 101 book)
So linux
im going to assume debian based, python is alread installed
and if you want libraries, sudo apt install pip3
yeah, but I can't use it because it's in arabic, I accidently put it, because I was tired
yeah, but the library is no longer there
well your in a pickle then
Sure I am
Now I study drama degree and I have 250K in debt
And if you make fun of me, I will put my drama degree in use. InDEED!
Imagine having a library
The only library we have here is in the capital city. And they suck anyway, they have like a whopping 8 bookshelves
posted this in #esoteric-python as well but thought y'all might appreciate this
uncommenting that print fixes the segfault :)
load-bearing print. do not remove is a pretty solid comment
Good lord
Wow
i understand very little of this
:incoming_envelope: :ok_hand: applied mute to @rough sapphire until 2020-06-04 21:30 (9 minutes and 59 seconds) (reason: newlines rule: sent 134 newlines in 10s).

second time today, darn
what did you try send this time
my python hello world
Pasting large amounts of code
If your code is too long to fit in a codeblock in discord, you can paste your code here:
https://paste.pydis.com/
After pasting your code, save it by clicking the floppy disk icon in the top right, or by typing ctrl + S. After doing that, the URL should change. Copy the URL and post it here so others can see it.
https://itch.io/b/513/black-lives-matter-support-bundle
cool bundle i stumbled across if any gamers are interested (sorry if this counts as 'advertising' mods. i have no affiliation with this bundle at all, and was not asked to share it around)
Black Lives Matter Support Bundle: up to 20 games starting at $20.00
the only bad thing i can say about python is its slow
yeah
but python is still incredibly useful in a lot of areas where speed isn't a major factor
yeah exactly
I wanna do something but idk what
Java seemed good but I could not get hello world set up
:(
fuck it I'm staying with python
the only bad thing i can say about python is its slow
sometimes static typing can be desirable
I appreciate the tooling that statically-typed languages have
Charlie said to me the other day that he enjoys how a lot of the time, if your Kotlin code compiles, it'll probably run fine
and I have to say I've noticed that a lot too haha
Working with static typing is a completely different experience
yup, it is
still learning Kotlin then? how's it coming along?
I wouldn't call myself a master yet, but I'm doing pretty well with it myself
a lot of it already felt pretty natural to me though
C on Arduino works pretty well
Yeah
How does dynamic memory allocation even work on devices without virtual memory mapping and a complex OS?
You compile to binary, your allocated all the memory
The only way I see it is to allocate some array of bytes and treat it like a heap, making your own allocation algorithm
Yeah you could, accept you ran out of memory doing that
Maybe
yo, does anyone find that Github's autocompletion for @ing is crap?
a lot of the it doesn't even see the person who I'm in a conversioatn with
the miss: "ALEXA, HOW DO YOU MAKE PASTA"
me: "ALEXA, STOP"
alexa: "here's how to make lemon drizzle cake."
me: "ALEXA, STOOOOOP"
alexa: "....."
alexa: "here's how to make lemon drizzle cake."
haha
cowers
not even dave can save you
I don't think you get the refrence but ok
did someone want to make lemon drizzle cake?
no
@plucky ridge
idk why
but here's some noise
was watching a dumb talk about bad hypothesis
about eyebrows
she woke up for two seconds and said
"well why is that george lucas's fault? he's got his own problems."
fuck any alarm clock, regardless of how organic it is, if it supports george lucas i can get in the bin.
tl;dr: i've run out of recycling space.
i've just woken up and can i just say; disc golf people are chill as fuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkk
good morning
seriously, this sport is top top
if curling is in the olympics
this should tell golf to fuck off
golf can be fun
i have done golf, so sure
i am 1 under par for my local golf tracks
but golf is dick.
it tends to be exclusive where i live
if you're not a member then whY THE FUCK ARE YOU ON OUR LAWN
I haven't seen him since he made my windows really fucking dirty with some shit water running from his beak
that bastard
you get nothing
fine, xx, i guess i'll just start drinking at work
would that make you happy?
you MONSTER.
i find no pleasure in the sorrow of others
it's coffee. i'm drinking coffee. what do you think i am?
still, it's friday
leet speak died in the 00's
is there something in the coffee?
it has something in
yeah, fuckin stimulants
THE RITALIN ONLY ENHANCES THE FLAVOUR
well - right now I'm annoyed at coffee because I have none
cafeeiiine babbyyyt
go visit a greggs
greggs does coffee?
jesus christ
I only ever bought PASTYS from greggs
They've only opened in the north east since they shutdown for covid
I have mcdonalds now - so I can get my shitty fast food hit that way instead of sossij rolls
everything's open here again
no.
I think most things here are open again on Monday or something
because our government is full of fucking idiots
on the 8th, all retail outlets are allowed to open here
but they have to enforce social distancing and limit the number of people in the building
i once heard a guy claimed he saw another guy burst in flames because he was so drunk and then he lit a cigar
that the ethanol started burning in his body
i was thinking could we apply this same approach to the eradication of the corona virus. just burn it away or something
i see
set the planet on fire
global warming was started by people who came from the future where the coronavirus had wiped out the planet
they just trying to set the world on fire
to kill the virus
well i mean it's better to do that before we give to the people on the moon
before the whole planet becomes contagious.
except the whole setting people on fire may be an issue
that's just implementation details. the plan is great.
The virus isn't lethal enough to kill of the population entire. No, I think when our end comes, it will be because we failed to respond to a disaster we saw coming decades in advance, despite having time in excess of ample to do so.
Centuries, even.
We are clever.
that we are. we live from arctics to jungles to savannahs to mountains. every single even remotely habitable place on the planet we live on.
Who knows? Maybe the Giant Meteor will crash into Yellowstone and set it off.
so what? there will be a lot of people left
we're talking 100/100 extinction
that's hard to achieve without making every single human being somehow genetically incapable to reproduce
hey yall
Ninja Measles.
Who are the beams
I'm sure there's a big popup book of Extinction Level Events, somewhere.
Probably not.
But I can dream.
i guess the dinosaurs did go extinct but they were kinda not that great
at anything really
🐊 these guys are pretty old
and maybe a couple of oceanica
Yeah. Crocs were one in mind.
Spectacular animals. I had the privilege of seeing Steve Irwin do a feeding show, once.
but let's put it this way: if you leave humans alive living even at the arctics and they survive there for, what, 10 000 years eating whatever they can, once the situation calms down, they will start wandering south from there and populating the earth back again.
the end result is that you will have human civilization in the timeframe of tens of thousands of years because we should be able to reinvent the same things we did on the first go-around
so unless there was something specific about the fact that life started this time around in africa for humans, then 🤷
a flippin men
What even is the smallest population required from which humanity could regrow without being struck by downsides of incest in case of catastrophic scenario?
i've heard that like 30 people is enough to regrow the population
holy
but might be making things up
you might be making things up
am I?
Surely 1000 would suffice at least?
my phone battery very low so i can’t do it :(((
there's apparently something called a 50/500 rule
wikipedia link if you desire to not explain to us?
one moment
The so-called "50/500 rule", where a population needs 50 individuals to prevent inbreeding depression, and 500 individuals to guard against genetic drift at-large, is an oft-used benchmark for an MVP, but recent study suggests that this guideline is not applicable across a wide diversity of taxa.[4][3]
MVP = minimum viable population
it's in the thousands apparently in real life
So 500 000 is the MVP human?
I think more like "3000"
something like 3000 people would be enough
that's not based on that rule but by putting some random extra on top
let's just say more than 1000
yes
though I guess it can become a real problem. countries like iceland have databases where you can search for people I think to look up whether you're hooking up with a close relative
360k people and highly insulated
oops
well of course you know your family etc but I guess genetics can be a bitch
”bad title”
it's icelandic
Ols
here's a quick guide to router pentesting
step 1. find the uart header
step 2. the root password is root https://arse.ee/DWkRVyTA.png because of course it is
congratulations! you are now a fully qualified router pentester
aaaaaaah
Stuff like this needs a content warning imho 😉
(@gentle moss)
i thought i did something great for a second
turns out @rough sapphire did something great
brb, having a debate about toilet paper with the gf.
bisk, please stop drinking on the job
your gf is back home. that's your HR manager, not your gf
ohshitimstillatwork
i should probably check on the weans
orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
youtube videos.
...... both.
okay nothing got deleted.
oh look. they even gave you a header to tap into. that's just good customer service; keeping the effort low. 😄
you are so out of the loop
i... but... :sad_face:
You can be a pen tester by usung kali
Or by grabbing a ballpoint
made me chuckle
Well that's better than the usual response I get
Usually it's an eye roll and a snort of derision
"hmm, i wonder how they do session management, i don't see any cookies or anything being passed"
spoiler
they fucking don't
Who doesn't?
the web ui is either in a "logged in" state or not
if someone's logged in from A, anyone can also access the authenticated web UI from B
Who doesn't?
@plucky ridge the router i'm testing
Oh nice
You'd think it'd at least be associated by MAC or something
Although I don't know how secure that is
The stuff you do is waaaaay above my head
@rough sapphire i love that
session hijacking is something you learn in basic computer security. I'm no webdev but session management is fairly common knowledge nowadays.
wouldn't even have occured to me that that's something someone would have done wrong
it's not even a bug
it's like it just didn't occur to them to do that
which is amazing
So a router that does not even have a concept of sessions is insanely bad
This isn't a name brand router, is it? I hope to god this is some cheapy thing
it is a name brand
God damn it
it's like samsung TVs I think it was, where there isn't a command injection vulnerability
Consumer or industrial?
because it just runs anything you send it as root in a terminal
consumer, fortunately
Yeah that could be worse
and it so happens that all the 'valid' parameters are acceptable things to write in a terminal
so it's barely a vulnerabilty, it's more like it didn't occur to them to have it not be vulnerable to everything
Still surprising there isn't even a MAC check or any kind of session stuff
Silly people
That statement hit closer to home than I'd like to admit
MAC checks are fairly easy to spoof though
Sure but for a consumer level thing it's at least the most basic of basic thing they could have implemented
so the extra security it gives is minimal
Better than nothing
better to put effort on impl sessions
hahaha
the session is implemented as an environment variable for the httpd process
if (getenv("is_login") == "Y")
Why in the magical fuck would you ever turn that off
Okay, when you say name brand...
fuck me, mkfs.ntfs doesn't fuck around
no confirmation, instantly just starts 0-ing the entire device
while mkfs.ext* is like "are you SURE you want to do this? [y/N]"
wait how is the interface different
btw how do you get hold of devices to test for cheap
while not getting stuff that's been done to death
i was messing around with my semi smart tv, found a potential buffer overflow using packet capture from the app on my phone
but then i searched up and messing up the buffer overflow can brick the device
guys , better to use sys.stdout.write or print?
i mean, they do the same thing , maybe there's a difference in speed?
they do not do the same thing
well, print by default adds whitespace between args and also inserts newline automatically
stdout doesnt
but i think the main reason for using it is making a dual-version code
they absolutely do not do the same thing
>>> from sys import stdout
>>> e = object()
>>> print(e)
<object object at 0x7fe28bcb5e30>
>>> stdout.write(e)
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
TypeError: write() argument must be str, not object
IIRC print is essentially
def print(*args, sep=' ', end='\n', file=sys.stdout, flush=False):
file.write(sep.join(map(str, args)) + end)
if flush:
file.flush()
Technically you might get a speed increase if you write a single string directly, but I doubt it'll be noticeable
Or worth hurting the code clarity
can we not spam this in every channel?
so I'm working on making an interpreter thingy in brainfuck
currently just determining the commands it'll have
What do you mean interpreter in bf?
Like... written in another language to read bf or...
just a simple thing written in brainfuck to interpret stuff on a slightly higher level
yep
woah
the funny thing is
this is a standard library
i think it's made for fun, in facts its useless
ok
It's a fun little reference and it takes up a minimal amount of space
No harm in a couple good easter eggs
yes there are others such as "import this"
@plucky ridge :x: Your eval job has completed with return code 1.
001 | File "<string>", line 1
002 | SyntaxError: not a chance
i think it's made for fun, in facts its useless
@stuck meteor
fun is not useless
is that real?
The braces thing?
Yup
yes
Yep, it's actually in there
Do they act like C braces?
No no
It gives you an error
Saying that they'll never implement something like that
It's just an easter egg
I have a thing for braces though, so that's sad.
I think.... Gah, who was it that made one
that could be interpreted a number of ways
xD
@solid pollen Who made the braces thing. Was it Nix?
Well, I like them in programming languages
And do you have the link
Sure but there's something to be said for keeping the languages pure to themselves
like welcoming me into a programming language that has them
Consistency across code and all that
I wonder what the closest thing to python with braces that's actually useful is
Does Nim use braces?
I don't think so
Maybe Ruby then
Well, I still do use programming languages without braces obviously
Ruby also doesn't use braces
and in python they'd be weird 😄
Dammit
They use braces for different stuff
Who made the braces thing. Was it Nix?
@plucky ridge it was @modern island
lambda syntax
Thaaaaaaaat's right
dicts
I knew it started with an N
Kotlin uses them but it's not super close to python
Oh right, braces are used for dictionaries in python too, aren't they?
I can still code with braces in python!
JVM languages seems to work the best with lambda, for some reason
Getting creative with lambdas does seem common yeah
has anyone else seen bananya?

Braces go brrr
is me
@static lance let's move here for a while
!e
class Animal:
def __init__(self, name, age):
self.name = name
self.age = age
@staticmethod
def from_string(string):
name, age = string.split()
return Animal(name, int(age))
def __repr__(self):
return f"{self.__class__.__name__}({self.name}, {self.age})"
print(Animal("John", 42))
print(Animal.from_string("Bob 256"))
class Dog(Animal):
def bark(self):
print("woof")
print(Dog("Alice", 64)) # fine
print(Dog.from_string("Charlie 1024")) # oops, not fine. Should've been a Dog!
@shell raptor :white_check_mark: Your eval job has completed with return code 0.
001 | Animal(John, 42)
002 | Animal(Bob, 256)
003 | Dog(Alice, 64)
004 | Animal(Charlie, 1024)
from_string breaks here ^
Logically, it should have returned a Dog instance
!e
class Animal:
def __init__(self, name, age):
self.name = name
self.age = age
@classmethod
def from_string(cls, string):
name, age = string.split()
return cls(name, int(age))
def __repr__(self):
return f"{self.__class__.__name__}({self.name}, {self.age})"
print(Animal("John", 42))
print(Animal.from_string("Bob 256"))
class Dog(Animal):
def bark(self):
print("woof")
print(Dog("Alice", 64))
print(Dog.from_string("Charlie 1024"))
@shell raptor :white_check_mark: Your eval job has completed with return code 0.
001 | Animal(John, 42)
002 | Animal(Bob, 256)
003 | Dog(Alice, 64)
004 | Dog(Charlie, 1024)
now it works correctly
so you when replaced return Animal(name, int(age))
With ||return cls(name, int(age))||
Yes, I used a class method instead of a static method.
||return cls(name, int(age)) ||
return cls(name, int(age))
it worked because the cls
which refers to the class method
Yes, because cls refers to the class you're referring to.
yup
And the static method had Animal hardcoded into it.
Thank You !

why is half the logo black?
nice
havent talked here in quite a while
that's a type of URI
it has all the image data right there
the letters after base64 are a base64 encoding of the png image data
oh got it
What
pretty men apparently
Really?
like the song
Idk just, men pretty
And Demon's Souls?
i assume you'd just emulate that
Hopefully the PC port isn't as bad as the DS1 and DS3 ports were
f
It's weird because DS2 seemed perfect
@royal laurel where these pretty men at
i've been eating like 3 or 4 custard creams and a few slices of bread every time i start to get sleepy
All over #ot2-never-nester’s-nightmare
Basically the rampage of face reveals we had
looks like hes been shot in the chest

Germany's beautiful. I want to see the Brandenburg Gate someday.

I'm in the states but heritage is German

shame you put such a bad name on Bulgaria
Its just russia without a goolag
I am also part German, other part Korean; but live in the States
We had like 40k Venezuelans coming into our country where I live. Shit got tuff.
When i was kid i never see a black human but now i see verywhere
i actually had a vacation planned to go to itaty right before Corona hit
Germany or Poland is what I'm mainly interested in. My cousin went to the UK and she said it was astonishing.
Thanks merkel
Wanna visit the parthenon , and giza.
whats the upper half of the logo tho?
And the Colosseum.
Whereabouts are you from JEFF if you don't mind my asking
Maine, USA.
Oh cool!
Yep!
One of the few states I haven't been too :p
Supposed to represent the BLM thing going on atm @rough sapphire
ooh
i get it
Maine is really beautiful. It has lots of forests, but you probably know that already if you're been to New England at all.
You should try summitting Mount Katahdin if you're the hiking type of traveller.
just be glad you don't have pg&e to burn it all down
Really need to do that more when I travel haha
Spent a week in Acadia and it was so gorgeous. The hiking was amazing.
Even if we don't have PG&E, there are still some willing to destroy trees just to get the sand underneath them.
or maybe actually go on a trip for myself for once after this covid thing blows over
There's this one pond I live near that used to be incredibly densely filled with trees. Now it's a sand dune that ATVers and four-wheelers drive across chronically.
That's sad
Gay logo
Yeah. It's a shame, too. My dad was around back when the pond wasn't deforested.
I never got to see it...
That's okay, though. There's still all sorts of trees. You won't be devoid of scenery if you visit Maine.
traveling sounds fun but problably takes a lot of energy
You get used to it after a while
My travel "build" is highly optimized at this point
Can do a week-long trip with a overhead bag and backpack and still have all the creature comforts
Dont invade us
was not planning on it
Gay logo
@rough sapphire I hope you're not using that as a pejorative.
I'm ditching GitLab over GitHub
Good call IMO
Some people just don't get it
Apparently
I mean if the banner is huge then I agree with adding some hiding functionality since eg the Django one is larger than an entire screen on mobile
But it's not that big a deal
The Vue one is just a hashtag on mobile
Wat it is small as heck
It's not in the way at all, yeah
People really get upset for nothing
Yup
i really don't know how people other than flat out racists can have issues with this
i just don't understand
Hanlon's razor
Hmmhm?
Don't assume malice when something is adequately explained by stupidity
there's nothing "stupid" about taking offense with that banner to the point where you're trying to hide it with adblock
that's not stupidity. that's deliberate action.
Look at the president of the US
I mean, I blocked the Django one, but only because it fills a screen and is on every page
i think he knows pretty well what he's doing a lto of the time
Doesn't mean I don't support the cause though
I'm not sure how the Vue one looks on desktop tbf
it's literally one word on a page
i honestly wouldn't have even noticed it was there personally
I don't think I'd even notice it tbh
This is the Django one, for the record
yes, that's a bit more extreme
i've also blocked the wikipedia ones where they ask you to donate, lol
I think everyone does at some point haha
like i love wikipedia and i have actually donated, but can you, like, shut up for a few minutes while i'm trying to read this article?
There's isn't a nope button on the wiki thing?
Not always
there's a "maybe later" button
but it comes back every other article
i've also seen this at the top of the page
takes up more space than it looks
This looks like a bug in all fairness, I never seen it doing that
you also sometimes get a disappointing look from Jimmy Wales next to your article about the vulva
Maybe your VPN is causing this?
It's unlikely to be a bug
If you switch IPs around too fast
This is wikimedia we're talking about
there's a wikipedia article on how to avoid wikipedia banners
There are several methods to avoid, or remove the banners in many thousands of Wikipedia pages.
What haha
by the way, fellow pydisers, i wanna ask you a question
how do you think, can person have an opinion on some thing that they don't entirely understand? 🤔
can they? sure, people do all the time
after calling one news article as a fake, one person pointed out that i wasn't on place where this is happening
will it be of any value? up for debate
and i've got generally interesting thought of this
Do you need to have knowledge of how to compose a symphony to know how the music makes you feel?
no, but you need to have that knowledge to have opinions on the structural composition of the song
no, but you need to have that knowledge to have opinions on the structural composition of the song
You don't need any knowledge to be able to say something like "I like Vivaldi, it makes me feel summery" or some shit
I feel like it's more Tchaikovsky season right now.
Hah. Jokes on you. I meant the browser
You don't need any knowledge to be able to say something like "I like Vivaldi, it makes me feel summery" or some shit
@undone berry a feeling != an opinion
an important distinction to make, in my opinion
you can have one opinion while having the opposite feeling
too often, people base their opinions solely on feelings
Yeah, I guess that's actually a pretty good point
Hm.

chat's dead :(
Looking at clothes online - and apparently "Tailored Suit Shorts" are a thing - which I think is honestly hilarious
I have absolutely no idea - but I'm just imagining rocking up to work in like a law firm with a suit then shorts on
lmaoo
my first thought was when you wanna show off your legs at a wedding
reminds me of those fitness isn't a hobby, it's a lifestyle posts
imagine wearing these to a funeral 😔
Even to a wedding this seems like a crazy thing to wear
beach wedding
but - wouldn't you just have on normal beach clothes?
there's no rule saying your wedding guests have to have suits and ties - if you want a beach wedding, just ditch that stuff
ok but what if you want smart casual
that is not smart casual - that is business-dress-except-you-forgot-to-put-trousers-on

For some weird reason ubuntu software center has dissappeared :/
I just updated the ubuntu and now it's there again
trying my best to find something to use for an antenna for my sdr
i have the base/connector thing but have misplaced the actual antenna somehow
Pringles can
seriously considering just fucking soldering and hot gluing a fork to the base
i tested it, it works great
but i'm not sure i want to ruin a fork
"ruin" a fork
Silverware are fairly cheap for what they are
yeah fuck it i'm doing it
spoons here cost 10p 20p each - I don't know the price of a fork, but it can't exactly be bank breaking
hrm
the cheap fork i have performs much worse as an antenna
adds a lot of noise for some reason
Tell it to be quieter then
maybe stop whacking the sdr with it so violently
what frequencies are you interested in? depends a lot on that
the dipole that comes with the rtl-sdr.com dongles is a good start (tuned to half wavelength)
Fork as an antenna, smart!
i don't really know, trish
but i just used a long strand of solder for the antenna
nice
@rough sapphire any recommendations on cheapish sdrs?
my current one broke
i have no idea how
i was using it, then stopped for like 2 years and now it doesn't work
i have literally no idea - i'm only just getting into sdrs
i'm using something that i got from uni
probably in the price range of nooelec's ~£100 stuff
