well in the normal use case for git you're using it to collaborate with other people, and doing this would require coordinating doing the change in everyone's repository at the same time (they could just all re-clone, but they'd have to rebase any local branches they had
there really isn't a one size fits all way to do this - fortunately for you a personal repository that only you use (as far as you know) is the easy case
