actually putin money on crypto is not easy
and wasn't easy until some other shits appeared
ya but then dont do it
and even after they did, there was always this other market of crypto stuff that wasn't easy
do you, for example, know how to buy a specific eth-chain token?
how many steps do you have to take?
I dont. I dont own crypto.
lol
I did speculate on it via ETFs
i dont either, i only have btc
but thats cause it was easy to me
well nah,stupid to argue this
this was a pain on the ass
y tho. if you dont understand the financial instrument you're buying you def shouldnt be buying it
I kno how bitcoin works under the hood, at a high level ofc
and I trust the institutions that create these ETFs
they also not black market type stuff, every transaction leaves a trace, there's a clear agreement of who is taking which risks, the fees involved, the underlying mechanism to support the liquidity and price tracking
what do u mean?
siince they have gotten in what has happened, doe?
I mean that if you use a third party, that third party better be trustworthy and transparent
bitcoin i understand cause its obvious what it is, its system is clear etc
btc peaked then crashed
now they sayin its the end of crypto cuz theres no more narrative to cling to
meh its gonna be up again
π π π π π π
of course it isn't
they always say that cuz they dont get shamed enough when a new ATH happens
bitcoin is actually a very well thought of network to translate value
yeah but the reality is
yout let the status-quo financial system in
and btc price went down like 40%
im 100% sure it will get up in the following months
it has become a value-extracting instrument
its a speculative asset with no central bank stabilizing it
i opted out cuz I couldnt predict its movements in any way
and then it become something else + jpmorgan
and jpmorgan is gonna crash the value then make it rise
and make money out of the chaos
it has bcome an instrument of "capitalist expoliation"
and i say this as a capitalist myself
but i do believe it really, the moment btc was made legal for banks
it becomes a roller-coaster
stocks also have companies that try to stabilize the price action through buybacks and whatnot
maybe bitcoing becomes strong enough
but not now
its hard to think about bitcoin
yep
you know the case of gamestop?
there was an investment fund that was fucking it to death
I dont really see any other way for btc to make its way into trad finance other than by digital gold type thing
yea is a classic
thats cause you have not understood why btc is valuable
perhaps not
I just think since it does not have a stabilizing institution like bonds, stocks, and currencies do
the closest thing you get to a stable price action with an asset similar to BTC is gold
and even gold, gold has industrial applications
do you have an idea of how it works?
It's valuable in the sense people are willing to exchange it for other forms of currency or goods and services directly
no
u mean michael sailors analogy ?
thats how value is determined in capitalism tho
btc is valuable because its built in a way that i makes it be valuable
Btc would be worthless if nobody was willing to trade in it
btc would be worthless if nobody would mine it
everybody trades it, cause they mine it
No?
the thing that makes btc valuable, is that it becomes harder and harder to mine the more computation is thrown at it
the more energy is thrown at it, the more secure it becomes
at some point
Sure that's what makes it attractive as a thing to trade, but it's the actual ability to trade it that gives it value
Same reason dollars have value, or gold, or a favor, or ...
the trade has always existed
what makes it expensive is that it has become a speculative asset
i feel like btc is closer to gold than it is to currency
Well gold worked as currency for a good chunk of history
the actual value of the bitcoin network resides in the fact that the more energy you put into it, the more expensive it is to generate another bitcoin
that isn't the same as the market value of a bitcoin
the market value of a bitcoin is hugely speculative
ya and today its that narrative that gives it a place in a traditional portfolio
btc is equally narrative driven
the value of a bitcoin is energy
btc = energy
I guess it depends on what exactly one means by "value"
surely
there's monetary value
My Minecraft world took a lot of energy to create, is that the same thing?
there's also computation value
value is what the market determines to be valuable through supply and demand
no
Why not? It took both computational and human energy to create
because bitcoin is built to become harder as more attention is put on it
more nodes, more people => more computation it needs
and that generates "value" how?
well, what generates power in a sea? say the indian sea?
the amount of ships put there?
what generate the bitcoin value? the amount of computers put in its network
i'd agree, this value is not the same as the speculative balue that has been given to it
so what "value" is it then?
its the value of the computation put on the network
ther'es actual money put to ensure the transactins
*transactions
okay, and again how is that different from the computation put into a video game save, or any other computer task
so there clearly exists a market that delimits that this is a way to translate value from A -> B
because of how its used
thats what makes a currency a currency
if i could trade my mario coins for some dollars i would
but i can't, but i can trade my bitcoins for dollars
and why is that?
because people decided they wanted to
same reason you can trade dollars for services
because enough people agreed it was a linga franca for services and goods that worked well
cause theres a distributed network of value that thinks bitcoins are worth
yeah, well, the US did a lot of shit to make USD the global currency
how is it, why is it, that btc is allowed?
because it managed to generate hype, and when enough people pile on it a market forms.
Like sure btc was designed to be used this way, and has some neat inbuilt protections when it comes to being a currency, but the core reason is people started to use it so others also did
you dont really saw the way this crypto coins worked through the pandemic inflation for example
oh yeah that 100%
it works cause people used it
people gave it value, so they became valuable
which is what I said from the beginning
im sure you did viv, but keep an eye open maybe i can show you sth you didnt see at the start

sure, try me
try you?
show me what I didnt see
you think you have gotten the idea perfectly
i gotta try you
and you will pass the test?
cant know until I take it can I
damn
it did so with big boat diplomacy u kno what im sayin
also stability, reliability, and ease of flux of capital in and out of the US territory helped quite a lot
but also the gold standard rugpull
but this helped a lot
guess who next in line for reserve currency
thats right YUURUP
who knew that our obsessive compulsive-like adhesion to rules based order and boring bureaucracy would eventually work in our favor
leave our crypto bro's supply of copium alone please

metals r gonna gap up like crazy tomorrow
so are european defense stocks
large perc of my portfolio
I will not doubt you anyfurther
they could go down if the war was priced in on friday already
but Im gonna say they gonna gap up
Gotta love ragebaiting cryptop bros
something will happen
not good
As would any currency
wrong
incredible argument
Thank you
anyway, The answer to why
is Governing bodies only accept tax payments in their own respective currencies
Assuming their are fully functional Governments
how long can you go without paying your european taxes, in anything other in then your nations respected fiat currency
A long time. Sincerely, someone within EU but in a country that doesn't use euro
Just means golden
yeah I didn't know about the polish rule
I estimate there are about 20m flag poles in the us
there about 37m poles in poland
you're referring specifically to fiat currencies
Eh, there's a difference between the free market being willing to trade in it and governments conducting business in it
but even with gold wouldnt its value go down if nobody wanted it anymore?
i would assume value is directly tied to demand
like diamonds
Diamonds are made artificially scarce to control the supply, and decades of marketing went into creating demand
diamonds are found at like -63 or something
can't remember
or was it 63
nooo 63 was like near surface
diamonds are at like 16
Idk, I haven't played much after the cliffs update. My y cords don't go negative
my point yes the price is not tied to any inherent value but an arbitrary one
-53 to -59
if the demand for gold went way down id assume the price would go with it but ig not?
Gold is technically still arbitrary, but without the artificial scarcity and marketing.
Its constant use makes its vakue always follow at least the inflation, making it great for stable long-term savings
ok that makes sense
where do you guys normally put manpage files in your project structure
The demand periodically goes up with big events like wars, but in general remains pretty stable... Basically whatever exchange rate the currencies have, with whatever purchasing power they have, gold basically stays the same value. (If you could buy daily stuff with gold instead of currency, the price of that stuff in gold would stay pretty much the same)
It's quite simplified logic, but kinda sums it up
makes sense ty
there's some utility value for tech and such
but is mostly convention in finance to treat it as an inflation hedge
Am i gay asf for not caring abt βmuh privacyβ and no matter how many ppl will tell me to switch to arch and use neovim ill always stay on vs code and windows, maybe a mac if i ever wanted to get into swift
What has that got to do with being gay at all
I mean windows is getting worse and worse every update, but yeah it's a bit of a transition period to switch
If it gets really bad ill just download windows server and manually delete bloatware myself
Never linux
Why never Linux?
You should be true to your own feelings. Many might disagree, but know that you aren't alone. Do what feels right for you.
Yeah, also bc most of my games wouldnt work on linux and i had abad experience with using wine in the past for playing java on a shitty chromebook
As in Minecraft?
Yeah mb i forgot to include that
ignore them
Minecraft runs natively on Linux, you don't need wine for that.
i use prism launcher personally
i had a weird issue with the official launcher though i think that was my very esoteric linux setup not linux itself
What distro?
Eh, tbf i use mainly the lunar client so i havent used the main launcher in a while
there is a linux port for that as well
Sleep
Is the kind of tired that sleep alone wont heal
I need like, a vacation or something
Minecraft Java runs perfectly fine
Also chromebook sucks too
btw mc doesnt need wine on linux
it runs natively
you only need the JRE
NOT the JDK
only the JRE
Depends

this one is important for us here in europe
and this directly quantifies the markets surprise
classic drift up leading up to a binary event pump
drift up happens as market participants digest the public available information and slowly position themselves for a binary event that they believe will result in a large price jump
is a well documented phenomena in academia apparently
happens in stock earnings as well

im gonna get hit hard through the DAX too cuz germany is dependent on the chinese market, which is heavily exposed to iranian oil, im heavy on metals and defense, so hopefully that'll be enough to counterbalance it
the conflict is becoming a regional war, the dudes replacing the iranian regime are hardliners, and stuff is moving far too quick for a retail investor, im gonna reduce my exposure to anything connected to this and go about my day. was about time to take profit on my european bets anyway.

your not effected by transit strikes or vurnuable to being attacked on public transport
the only thing the dutch do well is treating cars as second class citizens
emergency mobility is faster if u dont give everyone in exiestance a car
like, why does one person get to occupy so much space in the public street
just compare the area occupied by a car vs a bike
makes no sense, it's entitlement personified
f*ck cars
it not about being faster, But removing the wait
Zero Latency vs Scheduled Access
thats an argument against it tho
ever got stuck in trafick ?
I havent.in several years
guess why lmao
I have a place to be, Im there faster than a car
cuz guess what
a goddamn ebike gets me there faster
I feel very strongly about this
thats y im still in the northern europe.
yeah we can tell
car verses bike is diferent from car verses public transport
just to let you know
Zero Latency vs Scheduled Access
Emergency Mobility
Transporting Multiple people.
do you think everyone lives in the city
like what do u think happens when everyone occupies several times the space they meed to travel
People live in cities
Im always arguing about the city
outside the city is fine
theres no other way really
I mean its doable, the dutch have intercity bike lanes
but u dont wanna use them at night
I used them a couple times
and yea no

Also, kinda want to try Claude Code CLI because I saw Mike the man use it on PRs to PyPI
But my Anthropic account uses sign-in-with-Google from my personal browser profile

So I'm going to have to log into both SSOs on my personal profile for long enough to do the initial app approval, then log back out
is that even practical

what in particular?
that tiny display on the gun
LLMs are all the rage, but other forms of "AI" have been used to great success for much longer, they just don't get any attention
X-ray analysis, for example
that's not a display, that's a crudely photoshopped "copilot key" onto the "forward assist" button of the gun

Meteorology. Like, all of it. HDR. All of the cool things your phone does when you take a picture. There's so much to AI that is useful and not just a Markov chain.

excellent
Joe do you have opinions on the security of GitHub's OAuth apps?
Was going to try Claude Code but apparently that requires a subscription so I'm not doing that, at least not today
Curious if you also hate authorizing third parties
AI crap aside, I also have Sentry, Codecov, etc
Claude Code is worth trying
Just pick it up for a month to get a feel for it
and tbh, given it's useful for other tasks than just coding and will save you time, it's well worth the 20$
Otherwise, mistral is slightly cheaper
I will eventually
I just had an expensive month
And I really don't need to pay for even more AI right now
Right now I've got GitHub Copilot Enterprise, what's included in my Google One, and Gippity
oh if you have codex, that's alright then
I'm actually starting to like Gemini more than Chat GPT for some things but overall Gippity has been way better to me
For moral reasons I'd like to switch from Open AI to Anthropic
But I just hate Claude, I think it's answers are by far the worst
Though I use Opus almost exclusively in Copilot
I also hate myself for putting this much time into it
mistral might be a good alternative to chatgpt
This week's experiments will be Codex and Jules
I'll probably try Claude next week
nice
Is it bad that I'm geeking out over the UX more than I am the LLM itself?
I'm trying to work on my UX skills

I gave up on design. I just use component systems like mantine/mui
depends how you frame it
yea but, as the defense minister, I think it's literally his job to foresee these situations and warn the Italian citizens about it
it's exactly this sort of rampant incompetence across the EU governments that makes Europe look weak

the current market recovery also looks overly optimistic, I may enter markets with less exposure to natural gas shocks, but I'm also staying away from that

im making a vehicle dynamics sim and i have two options rn for interpolating downforce/lift coefficients for components of the chassis
@crystal spruce
based
use a 2d AoA and slip angle map (from -10->10 degrees each axis, total velocity from the cars local forward&lateral), or assume downforce works only at 0 degree slip (maybe 1d interpolation from AoA/pitch slip for squat/dive accuracy?) and just dot product the cars' global velocity with the unit vector of the cars heading globally
the 2d bilinear interp has better accuracy but i will have to input a heck of a lot of data and manage it, but the second one is less accurate (real lift from aerofoils is designed for tolerances +- 3-5 degrees, ) but easier to implement
pydis is the only stem server i talk in

the world is def at war tho, I mean just look around, everyone is either at war or having to resist getting dragged into a conflict
WHO PINGED
u kno
the crazy part is that even the gaza war started during bidens presidency can be traced back to the abraham accords pushed by trump to unite the entire region against iran
i mean why would he pull out of the deal obama setup
this was always his intention, covid just got in the way
Would never have thought in a million years that the GCC countries would get bombed haha.
I didnt expect it, but cant say Im surprised. this sort of unpredictable reckless behavior is what happens when you don't give your enemy an out
the predictive history dude believes the true objective is destruction of society, not regime change
historically speaking, yea it sounds about right
Gets into an argument over the definition of genocide where you create conditions that preclude reproduction
SK imposes a genocidal economic system upon their working class (0.6 births per woman) but at least you can argue it's self imposed.
The USA and countries in general don't act in good faith in international affairs
Also the US has an inherently unstable political system where every 2-4 years their stance can swap and due to election cycles we can't plan beyond that
idk, biden didnt exactly pull back from the abraham accords over concerns of potential escalation
he doubled down
same for the trade war with the chinese
Ngl if I'm the leader of a country I'm pursuing nuclear armament every time
Look at Pakistan India and China
North Korea
Israel
Once you get to a certain level of nuclear armament the western bloc can't dispossess you too much
you dont actually need it tho, you just need to demonstrate that you're capable enough to reach it in a very rapid timeframe
which is the stance of Germany and etcs, and it was Irans stance as well ofc
europe did have the US nuclear umbrella b4 trump
Meanwhile if you give up your nukes you get used as a bargaining chip and they'll betray you
sure yeah or Taiwan's unique strategy where it's like global economic devastation
They were forced to abandon their nuclear program after the CIA found out
checks out yea
Once you realize Israel willingly chose to establish itself in a place that they only had a claim to due to a 4000 year old religious cult and acquired nukes you realize israel is actually a fundamentally irresponsible political entity
It's unfortunate the US works with Israel from my pov
like how it happened to ukraine
Even though I'm not a big fan of the countries around Israel either
yeah
But this is true of every country really
You have to create mutually destructive systems if trust is betrayed like economic interdependence
Taiwan did it in a smart way
That's an awful idea
I wonder if the reason SK and Japan have collapsing birth rates is become in some abstract fashion the US is imposing extractive rule upon them
You either get it, or don't
Or be an ally of a nation that has it
I build the nuke every time
Or you get stuck on the Iran limbo
and then get thrown under the bus by them
basically permanent slavery
You're either a nuclear power or you're not
All Taiwan could do was force its way into the US sphere of influence
It will never be independent
I suppose
People will still think twice before messing with you
See Japan
as grim as it is, your thesis is playing out in real time
I always thought this changes a bit because of biological weapons
Those are really easy to develop
It's just more absurd
Because they aren't even targeted weapons
MGS had some stuff about that too
My cat is a biological weapon
Trve
And I don't mean the claws
I mean the farts
I think it's because the game theory of biological weapons for MAD is that ultimately the rest of the planet has to go exterminate your country
As whack as it sounds
There's not a good way to handle it
at least nukes are targeted
I think dune had that for AI they'd just go glass your entire population because you're an existential threat to the species
I think we'll converge on that sort of behavior for stuff like biological weapos
I'm pretty sure these are internationally banned
israel does lots of shit thats banned internationally
Oh, I just got reminded my friends' dog is also a bio weapon if you feed her store dog/cat food π she loves to try to steal our cats' food when they visit... Once they had to return when she was still farting from that - by car, with freezing temps outside, so not really able to get the windows down
rules are fake lol
I wouldn't say that
Well ultimately most of those international laws are designed to uphold the current power structures
Jiang and Marx would go into that pretty well
That's why UN said Israel is doing war crimes and Netanyahu is internationally wanted
Same as Putin
Like for instance all the effective tactics Vietnam could use to defeat the US or the mujahideen to defeat the USSR are war crimes
It means nothing unless they act on it through economic or martial punishment
which requires stopping their allies facilitating them circumventing embargos
you have to make it unprofitable to pursue a strategy of conquest or depopulation
Anyway I'm not pro war in Iran or anything
I'm just stating it's an unfortunate one for everyone
I'd build a nuke if my neighbor was israel
With US protecting Israel, there's not much we can do about Netanyahu...
And Trump could've arrested Putin (their Alaska meeting) but didn't
or the US repeatedly threatened my sovereignty
well I'd build a nuke regardless
Because it's the rational behavior if you don't want to end up permanently subservient to an existing nuclear umbrella
If you have very long term interests you always build the nuke π
It only makes sense to not pursue nuclear armament if you don't want to be an independent state or are pursuing some form of hedonism and don't expect your nation to survive long term
Violence is the supreme authority from which all other is derived - starship troopers (the book lol)
I'll stop ranting but yeah
It's not that simple
Or trivial
And many countries are invested on stopping that
it's how a country works at all. the state has a monopoly on violence.
If you assume a theoretical infinite time preference you end up with the inevitable situation where you can be exterminated by a nuclear power if you aren't one and thus you must become subservient to a nuclear power or pursue some other tricky strategy like Taiwan's centralization of global semiconductor infrastructure
That is fair assessment, yeah
Unless the rest of the world will form a coalition and go and wage a bloody war to destroy the country that is pursuing nuclear armament it is rational to do so
I would do it every time
That's called sphere of influence
But I live in the USA
Alright but see Iraq
And Iran
Both nations claimed to be pursuing WMDs
This isn't about regional conflcits or tic for tac but actual nuclear wars
Yeah it's unfortunate
The Iranians aren't bad people
Yes
And I'm telling you what happens when nations seek nuclear weapons
The US just got there first
Nobody wants proliferation
well MGS explores that a bit
I haven't played that game
a bit hard to prevent if the dominant military power keeps spawning forever wars
You could strong arm your way into becoming a nation if you have enough violent capacity
That's actually how a nation is formed
Founding myth of rome, sabine women, etc.
You just go exert enough violence ot have a stake in some land
Marx refers to this as primitive accumulation
I'm familiar
At some point for the state to have a monopoly on violence it required the violent subjugation of peoples
So there's nothing morally wrong with either party in terms of their strategy of anti-proliferation or acquiring nukes themselves
The game theory is fuarked
It's like global warming the game theory is hopeless until it becomes an existential threat
You need an international coalition who violently enforces climate standards or it won't work
Well that was my conclusion
I don't think militarily enforcing climate standards is very productive to the objective
Given to the global footprint said bodies produce
europe must pursue world domination, is always the conclusion to these discussions
Then it won't happen because if I want to achieve a multipolar world or win in the inherent competition between political entities to occupy the finite land on earth I'll consume that centralized shared resources that is the climate
/j
Every country has to pursue world domination
they are monopoles on violence
Yeah, it won't
or they can die out
Like you can also trade your monopoly on violence for temporary economic value
That's an option
But if you want to continue being a monopoly on violence you ultimately are in competition with all other monopoles on violence
So all countries are in competition and it only achieves stability through multi-polar systems
It's similar to how peacetime economies are regressive
Unipolar worlds result in obvious or not so obvious progress towards world dominatino and annexation
how does multipolar system work? like the way u imagining it
The US did it less directly through economics and culture
Like USSR competes with the USA resulting in a real incentive to treat third parties well
Once the USSR collapsed that broke down and the unipolar world is actually a big part of why the US working class was dispossessed hrough neoliberalism
Any system requires a credible opponent and threat or it will hoard power for itself
So anyway you get to that whole perpetual war hypothesis mgs has
You need to facilitate perpetual competition between countries and basically ensure constant war because world peace would be a state of permanent subjugation and enslavement
multipolar is ideal
I don't think the world has ever been truly multipolar
its like how nuclear families are one step from single parent households, another step from an orphan
etc.
You want redundancy in the system i.e. a mutli-generational family
they lacked the tech to project power in a meaningful way so as to claim unipolar global power
y not a rules based order enforced through the threat of violence like how it works for individual countries with respect to their citizens
The threat of violence is equally if not more immoral than violence itself but yeah that's what it becomes
it's not so bad within a decentralized democratic system like ours
is not perfect, but I dont fear the police for example
the decentralized democratic system will centralize into a fascist one
(im in europe)
They aren't stable
You do though
There are a variety of actions you cannot undertake or you would be physically harmed by the police
that is their function
You've just internalized and aligned yourself with the prevailing morality of your society to such a degree you view them as a protector of your dream
I mean, strictly speaking, yes I do, but at the same time, I know there are rules they will follow and I have the ability to fight back because those rules are respected
But if your ideology was different than the laws they enforce, you would view them as enablers of tyranny
Additionally, democracy is not a moral statement
Something is not good or bad because the majority choose to pursue it (i.e. slavery) or a hypothetical situation of allowing the abuse of children unnecessarily
So it is not morally good in its essence to establish a monopoly on violence
So you just realize yeah
Fascinating
It's basic poli sci/marx stuff
I'm aware
So in essence if I disconnect myself from my identity as an American I can't blame the Americans for (in theory) attacking a country acquiring nuclear arms and I can't fault Iran for pursuing them
But as a spectator I'd probably support the US
out of my own self interest
the whole system is based on the trust we put in these rules, and not respecting them presents an existential threat to the police as an institution, and to the other institutions that compose a typical well functioning western democratic system
It's why a two state solution is hopeless
Palestine and Israel are unreconcilable in their concepts
I'm not a big fan of Israel because it is not a cosmopolitan identity
You can always become an American when the American empire annexes you
Not so with Israel
It is a tribal cult in its essence
So anyway as an American I think it's really regrettable we support them
This is also why you should generally stamp out ethno-nationalist narratives like nazism
Not a good long term equilibrium
they'd continually constrict the definition of pure blood and commit more and more genocides
So you have to create cosmopolitan universal religions or national identities
anyway
im gonna get back to work
interesting takes tho
Yeah I think if you look at it from everyone's point of view you sadly end up with these things being a bit hopeless because even if everyone was altruistic to their own group they'd end up in a war
The violence is a symptom of the nature of the state in its concept
Foucault wrote about this a bit more where institutitions become self-perpetuating
but yeah nationalism religion ethnicity are just conceptual groupings
nationalism and religion are a lot more fake than ethnicity tbf
but all of them are
Anyway it's just not very likely the world would end with two equally matched governments
They're basically in competition with each other
A good person would actually try to enforce a multi-polar equilibrium
Cuz the final equilibrium of china or the usa conquering the world is permanent subjugation of humanity
Not kumbayah UN
Everyone is evil!
It's all moral signaling
I have no opinion on a lot of this stuff youre touching upon, I just like to keep up with stuff so my savings dont get erased by the stock market lmao
Last thing I'll say is I wouldn't expect investments in a society like South Korea where 0.6 children are born per woman to be worth much long term
Basically a scoiety pursuing its own extinction
Money is just a form of social capital but the social capital won't be able to be redeemed from a non-existent populace or political entity
yea a pretty terrible population pyramid, idk wtf the market has been thinking lately
North Korea or China will roll 1 tank division in
in 2100
SK needs a political revolution immediately
If they want to continue existing in any serious way
or just encourage tons of emigration or somethin
Yeah but emigration doesn't actually fix the immoral system that is enforcing their extinction through economic and social norms
I think that the main criteria for whether a system is good or not is if it can hit replacement birth rates
A road may roam in many directions and our feet may follow it as it turns.
the rest is made up
ig if the only purpose is survival
Consider that people who don't like their life in the USA are basically diagnosed with a chemical imbalance when maybe they don't enjoy having a wife and kids and an office job
So they get drugged
Women had ice picks jabbed into their brains back in the 1950s when they weren't subservient enough to their husbands in america
So institutions create norms to perpetuate their power
Until you stop realizing that they're actually in power
ah, sorry about that, it was us who invented that ,_,
So you forget the police are there to enforce laws that are for and against your interest, so on
us the portuguese
That's the problem really, when people start to get lost in the sauce
Why did you start to pursue that economic system in the first place?
It has a more philosophical or religious basis in terms of what virtue was valued and like an eschatalogical end state of humanity type thing going on
I meant the lobotomy
But people start to think well this system is good because it has made good things
then never ask like ok is it still fulfilling that purpose
do we still agree with that ideology
etc.
Well anyway
I hope everyone has fun
Have you tried navigating through a pool of Sriracha?
"the first Portuguese national to receive a Nobel Prize" π
nobel prize given to a guy shoving ice picks in the brain of ornery minorities btw
western world btw
see its the violent enforcement of societal norms to stamp out minorities and individuals they perceive as a threat
it's basically a cult that says you cannot pursue this lifestyle
It makes a moral distinction when the universe itself really doesn't give a fuck
Not happening
they are there to represent the state who establishes criminal law
the polie are there to enforce the monopoly on violence
The Koreans have a lot of opinions regarding immigration
it was a group of guys who were really good at killing people
It's sick and twisted that our economic system has put us in a situation of being reliant upon importing immigration
chat decided to be spicy this morning huh
you also have civil law where you get to leverage the judicial system to resolve disputes with your fellow citizens without resorting to violence
and you can defend yourself against criminal charges
Probably the Sriracha.
that's all a side effect of pursuing property rights
but no human being can make a serious claim as to why they own any piece of land
except that they are better at killing than you are
so just be honest
Its too early for this
Yeah
Very entertaining
I usually need a drink for these ngl
I haven't even finished my coffee yet
You must be new here
Coffee. I don't know why I was ever into it.
Every day is a new day
Good for him
I would like to assume there's some context that makes sense of those words
Thereβs more men than women in STEM so we justβ¦ shut down GitHub and all go home?
Welcome to the club
too few transfems among the httpx contributors, time to declare a state of emergency
I'm happy with shutting down GitHub if it means Microsoft not having monopoly custodianship of all the world's software bedrock.
is this repo enforced minority membership
Go local
were the far right correct wtf
Use Gitea
Yeah
They said βthereβs too many men on GitHub which is unwelcoming to me personally so Iβm shutting down my projectβ
(Or at least the issues)
Not for me
I'd be against github cuz MS is doing EEE
Then what is the best solution for you
Iβve got 100-something repos using httpx
i guess it's good I'm mostly using aiohttp? though I think I had some qualms about that one as well
then don't have any issues
is there some simpler competitor library?..
That do be the best solution
Not really
...to be entirely fair,
I still don't understand why people chose HTTPX over aiohttp
Ngl
httpx recommends switching to there's niquests, which I've never heard of
yo is this actually repo enforced transgenderism
chat is this real
even I wasn't schizo enough to predict this
Schizophrenia is merely the power to predict the future
Honestly I agree but I thought this was more paranoid delusions right wingers had
Bet on any numbers you hallucinate, you'll win big
Ah. Imaginary numbers, then.
my lucky number is 4j but I got kicked out of the casino for trying to add an axis to the roulette table
httpx wtf π
I actually predicted duolingo would crash once they admitted to creating AI lessons, and because linguistics research I was familiar with always pushed comprehensible input not artificial learning materials
But I didn't trust myself enough to gamble on it
ahh
Solution: Implement it as C or Rust extension for python, instead of pure python
They didn't crash then, the more recent change to hearts is what drove people away. And some weird "features" like very short-lived (thankfully) "pranks" (it was like several days at most until they rolled it back)
looking forward to astral/nety, or whatever cute name they come up with
I talked about it back when they were like between 400 - 500
Duolingo also had downward pressure on its value from (and I don't like machine translation) llm translation
I don't think duolingo really had the moat facilitated by network effect or vendor lock-in the investors thought they had
their original business model was pretty interesting, they were going to do captcha style mass translations once you hit a certain metric indicating your competency based off known material
This is also why AI as an industry is pretty strange, I don't think there will be that moat at the end to facilitate exploitative behavior towards consumers or business partners even if we amortize between the major competing firms
If I were China I'd release those models for free to facilitate building a coalition against US hegemony which seems to be what they're doing rn
Also maybe some open source devs just make it with interpreter/compiler integration and static code analysis which is what the top models rn are
and the even more recent change to energy that depletes much quicker than hearts
SaaS only exists to facilitate exploitation of the consumer sadly
b2c saas
the enshittification stage is the whole point of investment in the loss leader entity
basically forces most people to have either sessions too short or get the super subscription thingy
ye that's the point tho
apparently hearts was not enough because people can circumvent it by... not making mistakes
yeah
If you just go pirate some media in your target language + read an intro grammar book + use anki to memorize a thousand words you will learn languages better
The startup lifecycle is basically
loss leader funding -> pursuit of network effect or vendor lock-in via a legitimately good service -> exploit consumers
Any loss leader model is in itself a guarantee that its final stage will be relatively exploitative
Ah, the hearts was the good(ish) one, OK. I don't use duolingo but I see duolingo stuff on language learning parts of reddit, so I got those energy vs hearts confused
this is lowkey the best discussion I've seen in this channel in a long time
Holy performative
Just wait till they see the gender stats of literally any other profession
Or maybe it's just some kind of mental health episode who knows
oil just keeps climbing, we so cooked not even funny
Apparently that main dev is also trans themself. I'm not sure of the pronouns tho.
The reddit thread linked is a lot of speculations and specs of transphobia and ableism the mods didn't clean up (yet?).
But in one comment thread there's info that discussions in the issues/discussions were often really unwelcoming and quite aggressive.
And lovelydinosaur was always quite bad at delegating task, so all the mental load of moderating those also fell on them...
Interesting
yeah Kuwait just shot down another batch of Strike Eagles /notsrs
I think there were reports of iranians tryna reach for dialogue through secret backchannels
fueled the optimism
oh hey, more opensource drama from today: https://github.com/chardet/chardet/issues/327
