It's an abstract data structure. I think the logic is that you take a simpler underlying data structure, like an array, and create these abstract "rules" on how data can be added and modified. Like when in real life we take pieces of paper, invent some rules on it, and now the piece of paper is what we call money.

In the end, I think the array is the only true data structure, since the program stack and heap are built on top of ram, which at least I conceive as being an array
